I was having a conversation with Hornet Montana last week via e-mail (he just turned 50 years old!) and we traded Wikipedia links regarding numbers stations and shortwave radio broadcast ephemera. If you haven't noticed, his website has taken on a new look of its own recently. And last week he posted a clip of [...]

As followers of our Twitter are more than aware, Kenny Bloggins has been straight fiendin' the past few weeks. It's probably been annoying as all hell, and I suppose I'm somewhat sorry. But not really - the final season of LOST begins tonight, and we are throwin' down. In the traditional way this blog celebrates all the stupid shit going on in my life, it seemed necessary to throw a Super Swingin' Mix in your vicinity. And hey, it also can serve as sort of a peace offering for my general numberskullery and insolence. So... all the songs below relate [...]

Hi friends. It's been an eventful 48 hours. My bank account has been frozen by Bank Of America, leaving me with...$12 in cash that has to last me until my new debit card arrives this week. Supposedly there was "suspicious activity" reported by Mastercard, but when I called to ask what happened, I was told that they were not allowed to reveal what the activity was. I called bullshit, and they held their ground. So, really, I don't know why they froze my assets. Maybe someone got ahold of my account information, maybe they didn't. We'll never know. I just [...]

Awesome! Irdial and the Internet Archive now have this convenient embedded widget (provided below) that allows you to play just about the entire set of The Conet Project . If you're not hip to the Conet Project, it is an expansive collection of mysterious number stations broadcasts. Click the "next" button to browse through the various recordings. Way creepy, decidedly fascinating.
I'm a huge shortwave radio enthusiast (which is a really strange hobby for a 24 year old to have), and certainly a fan of the Conet Project . I have a rather in-depth article on hold right now that will explore the use of shorwave, CB, numbers stations, and other esoteric broadcast in music. For the time being, I wanted to share this video, which combines my fascination with numbers stations with my fascination with bizarre film from the early and mid-20th century. It's like it was made just for me.

Yeah, that's me, wearing an original "Thriller" jacket worn and autographed by Michael Jackson during his world tour. No, that's not how I spent your donations, I swear. I just needed a picture of myself wearing it. You know, because you never know when you're going to need a picture of yourself looking like a flaming homosexual... 75orLess blog! Kevin from Ohio! The two of you combined put the Swan Fungus blog's first (and only) fundraiser over the lofty goal of $350 in two weeks! Thank you everybody who donated, I think I've mentioned you all by name [...]
Again thanks to my lovely friend who introduced me to this gloriously fucked corner of the internet. Let's listen to this on top of your car roof while passing a boozy and gazing up at the dark dark night. This shit is almost as good as Coast to Coast . "Shortwave Numbers Stations are a perfect method of anonymous, one way communication. Spies located anywhere in the world can be communicated to by their masters via small, locally available, and unmodified Shortwave receivers. The encryption system used by Numbers Stations, known as a [...]
Song obsessions are those songs that we listen to on repeat. I noticed that my obsessions are often a week long. I also thought that other people might have similar obsessions. I've collected a panel of a few like-minded individuals and gotten their "song obsessions of the week." Quite often it's easy to explain why the song is good; it's much hard to explain why we're obsessed. Maybe you'll become obsessed with one of these. - Adrian ( me ): Darondo - Didn't I? I discovered the pleasures of shortwave radio as a teenager in the early 80s. My new radio presented a spectrum of listening opportunities that I'd never known were possible. Grand, formal concerts of approved music from the USSR, often far more adventurous and radical than anything presented as popular culture on this side of the Iron Curtain. Torturous political diatribes from Albania, and music from the State Tractor Factory Massed Bands. Oceans of howling, quasi-melodic feedback and interference, which I would tape, listen to again, and insert in random places on compilation tapes for friends. [...]

Last night was so embarrassing I won't even describe how I spent it. Sure, I left the apartment at five in the afternoon and didn't return until after 4am, but the hours in between were so utterly unremarkable I feel it could actually damage my reputation if I recounted the details for you. I awoke to my phone ringing at noon. There were television characters making cameos in my dreams this morning. RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or [...]
De 10 meest ongelooflijke opnames ooit (met links!).
First off, I'd like to thank everyone who took the time to comment on my last post. I felt a little dizzy from all the praise, but the consensus was that whatever I'm doing here is working for you folks. That's nice to know, as I'm too complacent and old to change my ways at this point. No real theme for today's posts, just a collection of random thoughts with musical accompaniment. ----------------------- Concerning last night's Grammy Awards: I'm not a fan of The Police, as I consider them the kind of [...]
