In one of the quirkiest pair-ups since fun. and Janelle Monae's "We Are Young" , Cee Lo Green has lent vocals to "Love Is A Murder", a tune from fellow ATL act The Constellations. The darkly comical video for the song also boasts an additional guest appearance, from actress Kate Micucci. Head below to take in the creepy mayhem! "Cee Lo is old friend of ours from Atlanta," says Constellations bass player Wes Hoffman. "We asked him to be on our record and he laid it down one afternoon, spur of the [...]

The new year already, but these ears are still clinging to 2011...desperately & rather absurdly trying to hear everything & anything released in the old year that might bear on our Festive 50 + 50. Anyway, time to commit: this expanded iteration of past year-end list-making once again tries to get round the one-eyed arbitrariness of shoe-horning all the vitality in a year's listening , the tangents, wilfulness & inevitable shifts, into a handful of its 'best' releases. T [...]

When we asked our contributors to tell us their albums of the year, we also offered them the opportunity to retrospectively review any of their Top 10 list that we hadn't reviewed already. Ruth Booth took us up on that offer. Ancients Constellations EP *shelsmusic 26 September 2011 by Ruth Booth Break-ups. Bloody hell. As [...]
I have to admit that I wasn't planning to watch Horrible Bosses, but I do love Jason Bateman (did anyone else watch It's Your Move way back when?) so I thought it might not be the worst thing I could do to end a perfect lazy Sunday. While there were parts of the movie during [...]

Pat Jordache - Future Songs Pat Jordache , the Canadian musician and tUnE-yArDs collaborator behind May 2011's "Phantom Limb" and full-length LP 'Future Songs' (via Constellation ), brings his scruffy and shambolic percussive pop music to Sticky Mike's Frog Bar in Brighton on Monday , having kicked off his UK tour in Leeds last night. London on Tuesday is possibly gig highlight of the week however, Jordache is going to be opening up for the down-tempo psychedelia of the legendary High Places at Plan B. Full EU tour dates here . Just when you thought the festival season was over, that it was safe to hang up any notion of seeing in one sitting a full working day's worth of bands until next year, along comes Constellations to sweep away the November blues. (The 12th of November, to be exact.) In the style popularised by ATP's Butlins jaunts, this is a single-venue indoors one-dayer, using the fantastic facilities at Leeds University as a base for a five-room shindig. At this stage in the year one might be wary of repetition; and whilst there are some [...]

The weekend's proceedings began on Friday with a pre-party at the Brudenell Social Club which boasted a particularly brilliant line-up of local, national and international talent. Leeds based ethereal and epic Heart-Ships were first on stage. Their music is best described as a mix of post-rock and new folk and many in on the local music scene have hailed the band as the new Wild Beasts. Their track 'Heart of a Wrestler' was particularly memorable and is certainly worth a listen to get a clear idea of the band's sound. The second band on were Shark Teeth , an [...]

Constellations 2011 By Russell Warfield November 12, 2011 This year's Constellations Festival was a double-decker treat for me. Not only was it a second straight year of excellent music at Leeds University Union (and only the second year in total, to boot), but it was also the first time that I managed to get back oop n'rth after graduating from the university earlier this year. Gorgeously decorated stages aside, it was a joy to roam around the place, enjoying performances, supping on pints which didn't require [...]
Way back in the jangly indie-pop depths of 2005 Ryan Jarman lyrically vilified his home town's scene and the temporary love affair that foam-mouthed music journalists had with the unassuming Yorkshire city with the words "Your precious Leeds is dead". Indeed, while identikit salt-of-the-earth lad rock bands with catastrophic names continued to flourish like a particularly aggressive venereal disease, the press buzz quickly died down and hipsters sort of forgot about Leeds. But Leeds didn't forget about music and kept chipping away at the Manchester-centric scene north of London. Five years later, Constellations was [...]
