Happy Birthday Corto Maltese . Corto Maltese was born in 1887, July the 10th, in the Valeta (Malta). His father was a British sailor from Cornualles and her mother was a gipsy, nicknamed "the little girl of Gibraltar" , born in Seville . Due to the Origin of his father Corto Maltese is British. We love the project over at Daytrotter , especially when they do work with local Austin bands. Corto Maltese is one of the younger bands around town who are making a name for themselves. Their Daytrotter session is full of four unreleased songs recorded during SXSW. Unfortunately, the band have no current shows lined up, but at least we have these new songs. Local boys Loxsly have been garnishing a lot of positive publicity as of late and are finally ready to drop a proper LP on our ears. To celebrate the release of the album, Tomorrow's Fossils, the band is putting on a release party at Mohawk on Friday night. Another grand discovery hailing from Austin, TX comes Corto Maltese and their driving, catchy songs. Damn it if I don't feel like I'm copying everything I've read about these native Texans, but their sound definitely brings forth reminders of Wolf Parade . ( Arcade Fire comparisions begone!) Definitely some straight up jams coming from this Answer, Answer EP which are graciously accepted. They have that undeniable 'it' factor going for them and their love for local music almost makes me not want this to escape the state boundaries of Texas. [...]

Looks like local buzz band White Denim are going to start playing regularly around town again after taking a little break from the Austin scene. The Parish is one of the few places I can't remember the band playing and the venue should provide a unique experience to see the band. Fellow locals Corto Maltese and Ume will be opening things up.
