by Tiana Feng Vancouver's The Crackling will release their sophomore album on April 23rd . Mary Magdalene will deliver fresh new songs with a darkened warmth. Grab a tune called "The Crackling" below.

On April 23, 2013, File Under: Music will release the sophomore album, Mary Magdalene, from the critically-acclaimed Vancouver band, The Crackling. The ballad features backing vocals from Vancouver's Children's Choir that were recorded in Vancouver's historical Christ Church Cathedral. The 10-track album was recorded at Afterlife Studios. Mary Magdalene comes on the heels of the band's successful Ashen EP, which had a limited release in 2012. The name The Crackling refers to songwriter Kenton Loewen's favorite sound, the sound of burning. From gentle taps of smoking wood, to violent sparks [...]

Crackle! Fuzz! Pop! , the new release subscriptions club from the noisy indiepop label Odd Box Records has announced three more bands today: City Yelps - With just one video on line (watch it, linked above) City Yelps are gaining something of a reputation as the best new thing to come out of Leeds in a long long time. by teepoo The Crackling is the project of Vancouverite Kenton Loewen. The project also has a bunch of special guests such as Dan Mangan and Eyvind Kang. Check out this track from his upcoming Ashen EP to be released next week on May 22nd . It has a special appearance from the Vancouver's Children choir at it's climax. The Crackling- Keep Me Drunk

I look on northern soul the same way I look at the output from all those brilliant Nuggetsy 60s garage bands. While your garage bands were using the hits of The Kinks and The Who and whoever as the blueprint and building blocks for their own skewed short, sharp 2 and a half minute attempts at chart stardom, the acts who would eventually constitute what became know as the northern soul scene were aping the more well-known records coming out on Motown, Stax, Atlantic et al. Not all, to be fair, there are hundreds and thousands of perfectly [...]

Kenton Loewen is a Vancouver musician who works with the name The Crackling , but he might do well just to go with Dave Bazan Jr. I meanest this in the sincerest form of flattery, and also with the intent of letting you know how much we love both Bazan and our newly annointed Bazan Jr. Loewen, with help from various collaborators is set to release the Ashen EP on May 22nd, and you should expect to find some similarities to early [...]

Okaaaay, HPX '11 is almost upon us, so what better way to continue getting ready for it than with another #hpx2011 edition of the Video Hits? I can think of anything, and I already have this post queued up, so let's do it. FYI: Southern Shores are awesome. The Ack said as much when we posted on this Haligonian duo's EP Atlantic some time ago, but honestly, I have yet to get tired of it. It's infectious stuff, lighter than air instrumental music which hearkens back to the electronic sounds of [...]

Today was a strict mix of drive-time pleasure with a bit of business. Highlights consisted of a trip from Venice to Malibu, some Caribbean cuisine and orchid browsing.
I just got wind of Crackle the other day and it seems like a promising alternative to Hulu and Netflix for watching free movies. And now there's an Android app, which I probably won't use since it'll drain the shit out of my battery, but if I'm flying then I may consider using it in a pinch. Following the success of its positively reviewed iPhone and iPad applications, Crackle and Sony Pictures Entertainment announced the release today of their new free app for the Android platform. The new ad supported app is currently the [...]
