You're probably going to laugh at me, but I ate pho for the first time today. It was delicious. Super-spicy and weird and great. When you carry out from this local Vietnamese place they put raw beef in a little plastic baggie, and it is your job to very quickly transfer the beef into the piping hot soup so that it can cook all the way through. Somehow it works. It goes great with fresh spring rolls filled with pork, shrimp and herbs, too. Sunday is here again. It is time for another mix tape. I'm pretty sure [...]

Not only did Lux Interior have one of rock history's campiest and memorable aliases, but together with his wife, Poison Ivy, he founded one of the coolest and most innovative punk bands of the '70s: The Cramps . Since their formation in 1973, the dynamic duo has been credited as innovators of genre-clash psychobilly. Retrospectively, The Cramps' continued discography offered the most psychotic, if not best, rockabilly revivalism and kitschy punk demeanor you're likely to encounter anywhere. Lux Interior (Erick Lee Purkhiser) passed away February 4th this year at the age of 62 from pre-existing heart problems. [...]
How in the hell did I not learn about this until yesterday? Lux Interior, the legendary – LEGENDARY – front man of the legendary – LEGENDARY – Cramps, died February 4. It's a shame and a sin that his passing seemingly slipped by. Without Lux, Poison Ivy, and the Cramps, there would have been no pyschobilly and countless bands we take for granted today would have been lost in the wilderness with no guiding light. My introduction to the Cramps came through the movie Urgh: [...]
[Lux Interior, Nick Knox and Kid Congo Powers] "I remember Lux as glowing," writes Kid Congo Powers , recalling the late front man of the The Cramps on his blog yesterday. Lux Interior as remembered by his friend, manager and label rep, Kevin Patrick It took a bit of coaxing to get me to my first Cramps show. They played a club in my college town of Rochester, NY, and I wasn't particularly into their first album, which they were touring on at the time. The argument putting me over the edge was based on logic: There wasn't really anything else to do that night, a typical problem. Coincidentally, we had mutual friends in Eric and Mel Mache from NY. Eric recommended we [...]
First things first - RIP Lux Interior... Now, onto the business, and this business was much, much delayed. Unfortunately, as it was pointed out to me several months ago those files were recorded on a turntable that spun too fucking fast. Since then I had been meaning to re-record the tracks and repost them, but life can be a bitch. Well, I [...]

Whatcha Drinkin' ?
I was really happy for a few hours yesterday. Of course, it was right after I had knocked off a six pack of this . Today, I am not so happy. Because I did not repeat yesterday's behavior. Yet. One of the problems with sobriety is the realization of how much happier one is when NOT sober. in fact, sober as defined: Marked by seriousness, gravity, or solemnity of conduct or character. who the hell needs that these days ? Let's party like it's 1929. Or [...]

Sorry to read the sad news today, that Lux Interior , lead singer of psychobilly pioneers The Cramps has passed away 3 days ago. Here are 2 songs from their essential " Songs the Lord taught Us " album, the first one a cover of the original R&B hit Fever . Obituaries @ Nola , Luga Luda , Boing Boing [...]
