Long have we supported the good folks over at Chapter Music in Australia, who brought us the great music of Twerps and The Crayon Fields . One of their lesser-known acts has really been making huge leaps and bounds, as far as popularity goes: Dick Diver . The group is about to release their new record Calendar Days from the label in March, and we've got one of those new tracks for you. [...]

As part of Chapter Music ’s 20th Birthday celebration, a double vinyl compilation has been released featuring Minimum Chips , Bum Creek , Pikelet , Twerps and today’s specialty… Crayon Fields . 'So Do I' has a heavy eighties feel to it, maybe it’s the pipe organs, the tree bells or the fact that you can see the montage of overlapping pictures of close ups of their faces, cliff faces and the ocean… Either way, Crayon Fields have such a nice vibe to them that you just [...]

Man, what a great day with two great announcements. The first announcement is that are friends over at Chapter Music in Australia are celebrating their 20th anniversary. It's a great feat for any label, let alone a small label offering across the sea; they've been making huge waves in the States with acts like Twerps and Dick Diver . The second announcement comes with the release of 20 Big Ones , a compilation celebrating the anniversary. I'm stoked because it features this new song from [...]

Musical variety shapes our minds in ways we have not yet explored. Try switching genres over what you've been brought up with, what you currently love, and what you think you might even hate. Songs have a way, if you allow them, to give us better perspective than people can. Lyrics can tell us everything about the state of mind that the artist was in, or may still be in. Subtle and sexy instrumentation such as the type found here on All Of The Pleasures Of The World , can also tell us an entire slew of details that's [...]

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars With the current indie landscape coated in folk harmonies and wooded soundscapes, it seems only fitting that Beachwood Sparks would return after taking a break 11 years ago. Interestingly, The Tarnished Gold , while bearing similarities to the modern landscape, has a sound more classic in structure, carefully crafting the perfect listen for fans of all sorts. Immediately you fall in love, or at least I did. "Forget the Song" sounds like an American version of [...]

You may recognise GEOFFREY O'CONNOR as the frontman of CRAYON FIELDS or his alter ego SLY HATS . He's been on the Australian music scene for a fair while, but he's only just begun performing under his own name. Crazy when you consider how young he is. Ironically, although all his press photos show him in sunglasses looking suave, he looks really laid back in real life, sporting unintentionally hipster glasses with his fringe falling over his eyes. After premiering his latest single Proud last week, we thought [...]
Melbourne's Geoffrey O'Connor – also a member of The Crayon Fields – couldn't possibly sound be dispassionate in his new video for "Proud," which dropped last week. "I can't tell that people flirt with me, because I'm miserable," he coolly intones, against a heady backdrop of sax-fueled angst. So tragedy glam. The purple-hued video itself is an ode to blasé chic, from O'Connor's mirrored browline glasses to a scene where he takes pills featuring his own likeness (meta!) on the bottle before finally OD’ing. Good thing that bombastic, borderline cheesy ‘80s synths keep the track from being a total downer. [...]

It's been pouring in Austin since yesterday, so I'm really happy that this song fits in perfectly with the weather. To continue with my adoration of all things Oceanic, I'd like to reintroduce you to Montero ...the project of Ben Montero (also featuring Guy of Chapter Music and Geoff of Crayon Fields ). At first, you'd think I'm just plugging my friends, and yea, I am, but this songs too great not to put it back on people's radars. This song comes from a 73 they put out last year on [...]

PigeonsandPlanes : Watch as Florence Welch covers Drake’s “Take Care.” CNN : Congratulations on making it through Black Friday unscathed! Unless of course you’re this guy…or this lady . ListenBeforeYouBuy : Lana Del Rey announces details on her debut album, Born 2 Die . WaPo : Capitals fire the Human Thumb (a.k.a. Bruce Boudreau), replace him with living legend Dale Hunter. Deadspin : UNC [...]

This track has been lingering now for a bit, just trying to figure out the perfect time to post it. The Dan Block Remix of it is great with just enough mellow and upbeat attitude mixed together to make the Sunday mood feel like Saturday night is still lingering. I love the lyrics because they personally speak to me in such a way that I can really connect and its saying all the things I am thinking. I think that love is initially the message here, but I think there is a much bigger message as well. Most [...]
Sure, cooking the turkey so that it's not underdone and not too dry is difficult enough. But the hardest thing about Thanksgiving Day with your family is, inevitably, the music. Your parents want something dire from the '70s, like Neil Diamond or Creedence; that cousin from Jersey who you never speak to has somehow heard that you "like music" and wants to play you the new Nickelback record; and your kid sister keeps demanding to connect up her iPod to the stereo so she can play her Miley Cyrus record. Argh. So let us help out with a selection of [...]

MP3: Geoffrey O'Connor - So Sorry (Chet Faker remix) Geoffrey O'Connor's debut solo album, Vanity Is Forever , really capitalises on the potential he's always had to sound breathy and sensual, but this remix - from fellow Melburnian Chet Faker - explores a different aspect of romantic song. Chet Faker takes the original 's noir-ish '80s pop-rock forward ten years in time and, in the best possible way, evokes the particular brand of downtempo sensuality made popular by the Cafe Del Mar series. It's brilliant to hear those cold, dubby [...]

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars Long have we lauded the sounds of Crayon Fields , the wonderful Australian pop group, but now we have more reason to cheer, as singer Geoffrey O' Connor steps outside the band, releasing his first album under his own name. If anything, Vanity is Forever , establishes O' Connor as more than your average songwriter; his apparent gifts are too great to label him anywhere near average. From the moment "So [...]

MP3: Geoffrey O’Connor – Whatever Gets Me To You Real great post-80s romanticism on this jam from Crayon Fields frontman Geoffrey O’Connor , who’s dropping his solo debut Vanity Is Forever on September 27. It seems kind of improbable that Geoff is so into this vibe of 70s & 80s seduction anthems, with their ultra-dramatic string sections and robotic synths; he’s got such a sweet, naive sounding voice, but I guess the proof is in the slinky, sensual result.
