In theory, this is a great idea. Get a bunch of known alternative bands to do a cover version for CD1, then get them (and some record labels) to recommend a bunch of ‘new' bands, and fill CD2 with songs by said recommendations. In theory. In the wider context, Independents Day 08 was a worldwide event raising money for the independent music community, as well as some charities, which included the largest ever auction of independent ...

FESTIVAL: Reading, Day 3 words: Jamie Milton top photo credit - das21 Saturday wasn't going to be topped, that much had been decided in the late hours the the very night before. And I was suffering from a slight musical (musical only, I promise) hangover. After hearing that Yeasayer's set was close to being pulled, I stayed camp-side for a little longer before opening my day with one of the best new bands of our time in an intimate little [...]

With ex-Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr being added to the band The Cribs have announced plans that they will try to release a single later this year. They have also said that they will release a proper album with Johnny Marr in early 2009. You can see the video here on NME.com . The Cribs also debuted a new song at Reading Festival called 'Victims Of Mass Production', which you can download below and could possibly be a song that they worked on wit Johnny Marr. Edit: I also decided to put up the Cribs cover of the Smiths' 'Panic', [...]

Building my hopes up and then just knocking me down! GREAT ONE! *Big thumbs up!!!!* Funny thing is, never felt this way about any one before and it never builds to anything yet this turn of events wrecks me inside badly. I'm not a happy bunny. Has all that time of mine been wasted? Doing nice things for her, buying stuff [...]

I hope everyone has their datebooks out, because the fall concert season is, to put it mildly, insane in the membrane here in St. Louis. Adding to the mayhem? Now that school is on the verge of starting, the two college venues are starting to announce shows. Wash U's Gargoyle has Ratatat over Labor Day weekend (August 30, to be specific), the Cribs on September 11 and Broken Social Scene on October 18. (With the amazing Land of Talk opening the latter show. Hi, who's carpooling with me to the [...]

English punk trio The Cribs are playing a handful of U.S. tour dates this fall, and will be stopping by Austin September 17 at Emo's outside. These brothers have been playing together since they were all of 3 years old. They were also one of the highlights of my SXSW this year, when they played with The Black Keys and HEALTH at LaZona Rosa. I would suspect most people could recognize a Crib's song after hearing one once and enjoying it, that rough, thrown together sound and loose vocal delivery [...]
