The Curse of Company - The Parade Devine The Curse of Company's debut, "Leo Magnets Joins A Gang" combines melodrama and hushed open spaces. The open spaces lead to some pleasant melodies, and the alternating male and female vocals are a nice touch. But at 11 songs, the lack of diversity overpowers its subtly. What's engaging and pleasant on the opening tracks becomes old news at the half way point. Mostly stripped down to guitar, soft drumming, and echoed vocals, "Leo Magnets Joins A Gang" is somber music for dying. That is to say, [...]
The Curse Of Company - Homecoming Well, I like it. I guess when people found out that Dave Rennick from Dappled Cities was recording a fuzzily conceptual concept album with a local supergroup they were expecting something even more bombastic than Granddance, which is why when it turned out to be a sweet l'il assortment of lullabies and polkas they ran to their blogs, street press and high falutin' review sites to bitch about their BLOWN MINDS. Don't look into the whole Leo Magnets theme too rigorously; it's kind of weak plus [...]

Tuesday, August 26, 2008 Before you get on with checking out this week's second EP I want you to jump over to Austin Sound to read a story on the Boxing Lesson's drummer, Jake Mitchell. I think it may be one of the more stranger and upsetting things I've heard of in 2008. Here's another five tunes. Enjoy. : Locke - High Five : Throughout the time that SOTO has been up I've definitely had a penchant for sharing tracks that cover the more light-hearted [...]

A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to speak with Dave Rennick, a member of Australian outfits Dappled Cities and The Curse Of Company , a band we featured in a "Listen" piece some months ago. Since the time zones put him early in the morning and me at mid-afternoon, I tried my best to keep this simple - after all, I'm no morning person either and I can totally relate. The irony here is that he seemed to enjoy these non-straight questions so much, he elaborated on his own. [...]

I'm not really sure why this was sent to me, I don't think I requested it or anything but it was in my mailbox and I will review it none the less. The Curse of Company is a band I'm not entirely familiar with, but from what I gather they're an Australian super-group of sorts with three of the members, coming from other bands, Dappled Cities' Dave Rennick, The Red Sun Band's Sarah Kelly, and Jack Ladder's Tim Rogers. I was a little hesitant about listening to this album, I've never really been into folk-rock type [...]

By now most of you will know all about The Curse Of Company - a new 'super-group' created and moulded into life by Dave Rennick of Dappled Cities Fly . Well, for those coming to the party late (and drunk and without pants) - the complete chemical breakdown of the band is as follows: 36% Dappled Cities Fly (Dave Rennick) 22% theredsunband (Sarah Kelly) 12% Mr Bungle (Danny Heifetz) 12% Secret Chiefs 3 (Danny Heifetz) 11% Jack Ladder 7% Gerling (Burke Reid) Following on from their sneaky little FREE giveaway [...]

The Curse of Company is David Wiley Rennick, best known for producing two internationally celebrated albums as part of Dappled Cities. For the debut record, Leo Magnets Joins A Gang, Rennick collaborated with the talents of the redsunband's Sarah Kelly (vocals), Mr Bungle / Secret Chiefs 3's Danny Heifetz (drums, percussion), Jack Ladder (bass guitar), and Gerling's Burke Reid (co-producer, engineer). The music draws on Rennick's multi-platform artistic practices, mixing the psychedelic influence of The Velvet Underground with Neil Young's scalding alt-rock and folk, and drawing on classic, coming-of-age storytelling that recalls a dizzying mix of The Odyssey, Blade Runner, [...]

Release Date: 07.22.08 The Curse of Company might sound like something that families are forced to endure during the holidays, but the Australian band of the same name is actually made up of Dappled Cities co-frontman David Rennick, Tim Rogers of You Am I, Danny Heifetz of Mr. Bungle fame and The Red Sun Band's Sarah Kelly. With a lineup like that you might expect to hear some great pop music, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The good news is that what they lack in the pop-tastic tunes area, the outfit more [...]

When people hear about members of various bands coming together, they likely get the sneaking suspicion of Audioslave or Velvet Revolver being involved. However, when the Australian outback produced the newly formed The Curse Of Company , laden with the sounds of Dappled Cities' Dave Rennick, The Red Sun Band's Sarah Kelly, and Jack Ladder's Tim Rogers, its certainly hard to deny the quality of this overseas indie supergroup. No Midnight Oil references, here - they certainly hold their own. Be that as [...]

The thought of a band containing Dave Rennick ( Dappled Cities ), Sarah Kelly ( The Red Sun Band ) and Tim Rogers ( Jack Ladder ) is rather enticing for anyone who enjoys the Sydney music scene. But when these three (and others) combine to become The Curse of Company, a whole new sound is born. Some might find this disappointing, but I think it's quite refreshing. Rather than me attempting to describe this new sound of theirs (and just pulling fancy words out of thin air), you can have a listen to their current single below. [...]
