The Curtains - Chris Cohen and two of his "guests", and I THINK the guests on the photo are Annie Lewandowski and Nedelle Torrisi. I like albums. Sometimes I buy full albums just because I like one song. Most of the time, I get disappointed. This time, I didn't. What am I talking about? The Curtains! They are one of the weirdest, funniest, bittersweetest and best bands I've heard in the last
The Curtains' 4th album ('Calamity') is the art-work of one man, Chris Cohen, who also used to play guitar for Deerhoof and Natural Dreamers. On interim from Deerhoof's... sabas.jud.as-new indie music messiah
Rivane Neuenschwander- Conversation 5 (2002) This track zooms in on J. Tillman sitting on a cedar stoop under the dripping overhang of a self-censored shelter. He pulls uncomfortably at his soaked socks without mention of the maturing loss of who previously kept him warm. The banjo picks helplessly as he chooses one in an endless parade of tragic drips and softly blinks as it collides with a puddle and loses its shape. [...]

Sorry I didn't get this up yesterday. Real job shizz and all is kinda of consuming more of my life than it used to... Atlanta 41, Pittsburgh 38, OT It was a shootout between the Steelers and the Falcons that went into overtime and was full of milestones. Both Ron Mexico and Ben Rothizzzzleburger threw three touchdown passes in the first half alone. Big Ben was knocked out of the game, but Charlie Batch threw two more TDs to [...]

I'd like a real honest opinion from those who've been catching up with the Graboid (on time this week!) every week. Do you find it helpful? Has it helped with discovering new albums that you might've not known about otherwise? I'm just curious is all, and if you think it's useful than great! It's fun compiling it every week and I know that it opens my eyes to a lot of new music. Christmas comes early this week with a nice little collection of holiday tracks from Aimee Mann . I've [...]

Chris Cohen (he of Deerhoof and Natural Dreamers ) has a voice that bears a striking resemblance to that of Belle & Sebastian's Stevie Jackson, and the soft-shoe-dream-pop sound of his latest project, The Curtains , would fit nicely on any indie kid's latest hipster mixed playlist. Calamity , their 4th album, is pretty much completely produced and performed by Cohen. Recorded without a band and with no label, it's the sound of an artist without any restrictions except for his own imagination and willingness to give the songs what they need. [...]

MP3: THE CURTAINS "Go Lucky" ( Asthmatic Kitty ) The Curtains unveil their first disc as Sufjan Steven's labelmates on Oct. 24, when Calamity hits independent record store racks. Bask in the bliss of this track, which reaches a new level of twee that would even cause Belle and Sebastian to let loose a few agreeable sighs. tags: music | mp3 | indie pop | twee pop

Now that guitarist Chris Cohen has officially parted ways with Deerhoof, he is concentrating full time on his other band The Curtains. I didn't realize this, but he was actually doing The Curtains back before he even joined Deerhoof (around the Reveille -era), and the new album Calamity will be his 4th under that moniker. Being that this is my first exposure to Cohen's solo material, I can't compare the sound to previous albums, but I can tell you that it contains many elements that will be familiar to Deerhoof fans. The one thing that did surprise [...]

Crockett, CA The Curtains is one of the latest bands to be added to the Asthmatic Kitty family. Lead guitarist and vocalist Chris Cohen was formerly a member of Deerhoof but left that band earlier this year to concentrate solely on The Curtains. The band is touring right now and playing stuff from the new album. My good friend just saw them at Warehouse Nextdoor and says they totally kicked ass. Calamity will be released October 24. [...]
The Curtains are Chris Cohen's new band. Who was his old one? Why Deerhoof, of course. I'm supertired, so enjoy the mp3! MP3: The Curtains - Green Water MP3: The Curtains - Calamity You know those covers that Yo La Tengo does for WFMU? Well, "Green Water" is what I imagine them covering ...
Michael Zapruder's Rain of Frogs - "Butterfield's and Baker's" Abraham Zapruder shot JFK with his video camera, and Michael Zapruder - probably Abraham's grandson - shot me with a gun until I died. Not literally, of course. No, I'm still alive physically, but I'm dead emotionally. And I've been that way ever since the younger Zapruder shot me with his gun. Though, it's not so much that he shot me with his gun, but that he shocked me with his gun, and that by "gun" I mean the quality of his songs. I should probably also mention at this point [...]
