St.Petersburg, Russian beat producers, Fama Eightyseven and Flaty , came out with a lengthy beat-tape entitled, Internal Overview , back in early 2011. Somehow I missed out on this one. Huge fan of Fama, and now of Flaty too. The two collaborate under the name, Underwraps . Considering the fact that his name is an amalgamation of Kaluha, Koala and Klonoa , it's kind of fitting that Kiev's Koloah produces smooth tunes evocative of dream-travelling escapism (although I don't know where the koala element comes in). Billed as a collection of "deep stompers", Love EP progresses from the powerful and rhythmically percussive vibes of 'In the Beginnin' through to the mellow stylings of 'Love' with effortless charm. Released a few days ago on netlabel Cuts, Actaeon EP is the latest offering from Scottish producer DFRNT . Renowned for his deep, tranquil style, this release explores a minimal drum & bass vibe, comprising intricately percussive tunes which, for the most part, instil me with a sense of calm. Having recently come across this Television -esque band from Norway, I'm reminded why groups aped this sound so thoroughly throughout the 'aughts. But these sadly unheralded guys got everything right about this aesthetic back in their day — zippy, angular, nice Gary Numan-like synth warbles, and in no hurry to get through it. Ditmaal komt de muziek van Σ-Fly (spreek uit 'Sigmafly'), die eerder al een prachtrelease deed op het Warminal-label van Essay. Met de Tetrachrome EP is wat mij betreft de kogel definitief door de kerk - muziek maken kan Σ-Fly als geen ander. Denk Burial-esque beats en zwevende melodieën & vocalen op de achtergrond.
