I took a year off from doing a favorite Seattle records list due to lazyitis (sorry Seattle). Here's my top ten records from my fair city for 2011 (sorry Seattle). 1. Seapony - Go With Me ( Hardly Art ) Twee is alive and well in Seattle. Seapony kind of came out of nowhere late last year. They put their debut album out on local label Hardly Art, played countless shows around town and generally put the Northwest back on the map when [...]
Were any of us to suffer the loss that Cute Lepers' Brian Yeager did, the total destruction of his home and nearly all of his belongings, we could only hope that we had friends like his. While on tour with Cute Lepers this September, Yeager's Queen Anne home caught fire and he lost nearly everything [...]

Punk rockers The Cute Lepers will be playing at Steady Sounds on Sunday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. They were supposed to play at The Hospital, but last I heard that venue was shut down. They may perhaps play another place, but for now listen to their tracks below. Cute Lepers - Smart Accessories Cute Lepers - Berlin Girls Cute Lepers - Lonely Boy [...]

The Cute Lepers are a power pop band with a punk spirit, or is it the other way around? The chord progressions and pulsing drum beats scream punk, but the harmonies and arrangements are pure 602s pop. Melodic punk bands of the 70s and early 80s are often forgotten, though these bands (e.g., The Buzzcocks , Blue Orchids , The Vibrators ) made the genre more accessible and open the door to the great college radio scene of the 80s. The Cute Lepers capture the spirit of that era well, putting their signature on the genre by introducing [...]
Here are three more artists that may help get you through the dog days of summer: Jenn Mierau For those who like: Lykke Li, Imogen Heap If you like your female singers to swoon above some hypnotic electro-pop, then Montreal's Jenn Mierau was tailor-made for you my friend. Her album Hush comes out September 13th and includes a cover of The Cure's "Lovesong". Jenn Mierau's website Gescha For

Here's one to get you over the hump and halfway to Hoboken. The Cute Lepers shamelessly mix skinny tie new wave with good foot R&B to create a smoothie of twitchy, pogo-worthy pop. Featuring members of the renowned Briefs, the band is gaining steam around the Northwest on the thrust of Adventure Time , their hyperkinetic debut for 1-2-3-4 Go! Records , not to mention their frenetic live show. Speaking of which, The Cute Lepers have a sizable late-summer tour ahead of them with Something [...]

The Cute Lepers - "Smart Accessories" from the 2010 album Smart Accessories on 1-2-3-4-Go! Records.
Since I've received a number of notices of the local music community coming together to have benefit shows where the proceeds are going to the humanitarian effort in Haiti, I thought I'd put together a super post of posters and dates of the various events going on. I love that the local music community isn't [...]

This is very sad news from Steve of the Cute Lepers/Briefs: "Travis Criscola, rest in peace Early the morning of March 28, in Cincinnati our friend and band-mate Travis Criscola passed away in his sleep. He was 24. Travis was guitarist in the Cute Lepers for the last six months and was the perfect addition to the band as it's developed. He was our friend. His company was always a pleasure. I don't think I ever heard him say a negative word about any one. He was smart, polite and considerate, always interested in [...]
