Photos by David Benjamin Thirteen years after its release, Thirteen Tales from Urban Bohemia was performed in its entirety by The Dandy Warhols at the Wiltern Theatre. If only it was played on the 13th, instead of a day later. The quartet didn't say much between songs, which allowed the flow of the album to remain steady. The stage lights, primarily consisting of projected images and strobe lights, set the mood for the crowd to sway to those memorable tunes. [...]

We're giving away a pair of tickets to see The Dandy Warhols play at the Fillmore on Saturday night. But wait. Before you disregard this as another giveaway for an outdated, worn-out rock band from the early 2000s, consider this: the band will play their 2000 critically acclaimed album 13 Tales from Urban Bohemia in its entirety on Saturday. Released 13 years ago and now reissued, 13 Tales is a sprawling, epic kind of rock record, with horn-driven acoustic space jams rubbing shoulders with indie rock songs. Best known [...]

photos by Dana (distortion) Yavin Dandy Warhols @ T5, 5/31/2013 "The album feels brand new," says keyboardist Zia McCabe, calling while walking back from the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. (The establishment invited the band by and hooked 'em up with with a visit while they were in town, which they enthusiastically enjoyed.) For McCabe, this thirteenth anniversary tour has provided her with an opportunity to fall deeper in love with Thirteen Tales' more obscure cuts and the songs she wasn't the [...]

In the 1936 film My Man Godfrey, Alexander Bullock says, "All you need to start an asylum is an empty room and the right kind of people." The Dandy Warhols are those kind of people, that is if you substitute "party" for "asylum." Since 1994 The Dandys have produced scads of great psychedelic, Britpop-influenced songs, many of which I suspect would sound even better on drugs. Which are great so long so you don't ABUSE them like my old friend Alex, who one X-Mas Eve found herself sitting at a very, very, [...]

Oscar Wilde once said, “All art is quite useless.” For once, the inimitable Oscar is wong. Since 1994 Portland, Oregon’s The Dandy Warhols have been making great music that is great to dance and do drugs to, which makes the Dandys every bit as functional as a good dildo. Why, I don’t even dance—damned wooden leg-and I still think The Dandy Warhols are the greatest thing to come our way since their evil twins, The Brian Jonestown Massacre. Over the course of eight studio albums—none of which, to be honest, I like from beginning to [...]
