Brother - " Darling Buds of May " Brother, the self-prolcalimed purveyors of 'gritpop', are a relatively new band based out of the UK. Brother's story isn't all that unusual. These guys were looking for a way out of their small hometown of Slough and decided that rock 'n roll was it. After working for months on material, their debut EP, Fly By Nights is out today on iTunes ! Brother's guitar-driven rock is a modern take on 90s Britpop. Spin pretty much hits the nail [...]
Every so often, English music tries to revive that famous Britpop scene of the 1990's. Brother are the band to spearhead the latest attempt. So much has been written about their similarities to the likes of Oasis, but it really is unavoidable. It has to be said, the similarities seem to be drawn more from [...]

Check out a video of the band performing "Darling Buds of May" below and catch them at Brooklyn Bowl tonight and Maxwell's in Hoboken, NJ tomorrow night. Social Bookmarking

What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? . Dito isso, apresento o Brother , os novos queridinhos do semanário, que vêm chamando os caras como uma das "maiores esperanças da guitarra de 20113. Bem, antes de mais nada, creio eu que eles não vão mudar sua vida. Porém, [...]
Catherine Zeta-Jones has been a famous actress for a few decades now, but few viewers will be familiar with eir TV work in The Darling Buds of May. This massive, seventeen-hour show will provide a tremendous amount of material for viewers to chew on. The show originally hit British airwaves in 1991, comprising three series [...]

Up and coming "gritpop" band Brother shows promise as a possible revival of the 'lad band.' Solid track, watch for the debut album in the summer. Brother - Darling Buds of May Info Rating: 8.0

A reader and contributor from way back in the early days, Jeff in Chicago , dropped me a note last week asking for " pre -baggy/ Madchester ' Blonde ' stuff" I'm guessing he means the likes of this:- mp3 : The Primitives - Really Stupid The Primitives formed in the mid 80s, and while the music was pretty decent, it was the presence of an attractive singer called [...]

Formed in Wales, UK in 1986, indie pop hipsters, The Darling Buds (DBs) graced the scene with their fuzzy flair for sweet melodies and ultra catchy guitars. Taking their name from H.E. Bates comedic novel, The Darling Buds of May, the band showcased their cheesy C86 brand of brit-rock ala poppy Primitives and shoegaze-lite Lush. The DBs produced three albums in nearly seven years, making a splash with its Beatlesque hooks and blonde frontwoman, Andrea Lewis. The band's debut, Pop Said was released in [...]
The Darling Buds never seemed to make it into the mainstream. They came along at the same time as more successful 'Indie Cindy' fronted bands such as The Primitives or Transvision Vamp (Wendy James, hmmmm), however their own version of poppy punk was quite appealing. The band took their name from the book by H. E. Bates (The Darling Buds of May) long before the TV series starring David Jason as Pop Larkin and Catherine Zeta-Jones as his daughter Mariette. The album this track is taken from (Pop Said) is a reference to this book also. MP3: [...]

Continuing with more Darling Buds rarities, here's "Spin" from the So Naive fanzine flexi released in 1987. This song later appeared on their debut album "Pop Said" in 1990. Listen to The Darling Buds - Spin www.myspace.com/thedarlingbuds www.thedarlingbuds.com

Simply classic by every sense of the word. Here's the debut double A-side 73 from The Darling Buds . The single was recorded in June 1986 at Loco Studios and the band self-released it in February 1987. "If I Said" was most recently included on the "CD863 compilation, but I'm liking my gritty overly-compressed vinyl recording a bit better as of late. Of course, the countdown won't actually have very much suspense in it, as you could nip off and look up the tracks anywhere, but to celebrate the long weekend, we're heading back twenty years to explore the Festive Fifty, John Peel's annual end-of-year listener's poll. We'll bring you the top fifteen in its entirety (the odd cut-off being because number 16 is the first we can't find on YouTube) but, before we get there, here's some bubbling under: 50. So, lucky weekly mix number thirteen...and it's the inevitable C86 mix. Many others have written about the legendary C86 cassette from NME (after all, there's even an excellent blog called Indie MP3 - Keeping C86 Alive ), and I doubt I have anything particularly new to add to the discussion. However, it continues to amaze me how one mail-order cassette spawned a genre, a scene, and an attitude toward music. Though NME had released a cassette five years earlier in conjunction with Rough Trade, appropriately titled C81, it never gained the same mythical status despite the fact that the [...]
Today's episode features a lot of music influenced by 60s and 70s pop and psychedelic groups, as well as some great indie folk.
