As you may already know, but I'll state it nonetheless for those who do not, I have a weekly radio show on KSVR Mount Vernon, KSVU Hamilton and KSJU Friday Harbor. You can tune in via the respective dial pinpoints if you live within those townships, or you can stream from KSVR.org . We will be hosting our pledge drive in April, so I thought I'd kick things off by doing something no other station in Skagit or (to my knowledge) the surrounding areas does: a vinyl only night. My March [...]

Heard this on 6 Music , courtesy of For Folk's Sake . You could call it witch-folk - spindling, chanty, campfire-friendly and abundant with melody and harmony. I love the tune's phases, ones all too familiar to anyone who's suffered a protracted, painful break-up: dejection (the lyrics and volume rising in mutual intensity), doomed reconciliation, all-out despair, and, finally, finally, a sad closure. Much more about Worry Dolls in FFS' interview with the female duo . Polaroid is also, I think, superb. The roid, the roid, the roid...

Lulu Rogue is a Danish production duo who have spent the last couple of years locked away in the studio working on their upcoming album, The Song Is In The Drum . "Sign Me Out" is the first taste of what the album will sound like. If the rest of the project comes close to the strength of this single, then it'll be a phenomenal listen. Supported by the haunting vocals of Fanney Osk, "Sign Me Out" is one dark piece of electronica that's loaded with ambiance. Just through a weak pair of laptop speakers you can [...]
From alternative quirk-pop heroes to Grammy-winning makers of kids songs, They Might Be Giants' never-ending cavalcade of songs and wry humor culminates with Nanobots , their 16th (!) album. John Flansburgh walks us through the album's creation, their evolving songwriting process, and defend against the notion that some of their songs can be construed as mean-spirited ... When injuries and burglaries kept them from performing on stage in the late '80s, John Flansburgh and John Linell created the Dial-A-Phone, an answering machine they filled with songs from their band, They Might Be Giants. A regular Brooklyn number, they [...]

Is it really time for the first volume of the Best Downloadables of 2013 ? It is. You can stream (and scrobble ) all the songs in this mix using the ex.fm player at the bottom of the page OR you can download any or all of the tracks at your leisure (with the usual right-click or control-click) and play them using a digital media player of your choice. Listen. Downloadables: Attention (mp3) by Younolovebunny [...]

I broke the rules this week on my very unoriginally titled radio show on KSVR Mount Vernon. The Indie Music Show featured a few tracks that are, quite distinctly, not even close to being indie. And one of them kicked off the show. It's the new track by David Bowie called "Where Are We Now?" Shortly thereafter, I crossed the ocean for a set from France, where I played a track by famed singer and Masculin Féminin actress Chantal Goya and another by Serge Gainsbourg. Still, there [...]
The Big Apple residents in Darlings recently self-released their latest LP, Perfect Trip. What started out as a group of friends tracking demos in a small apartment in the Village has turned into a a full-time affair for Peter Rynsky, Maura Lynch, Joe Tirabassi and Matt Solomon. Give your eardrums a little garage-rock gift by downloading album track [...]

Alright folks, this batch of discovery is on the more calm side. Lots of acoustic guitars, not very much electric anything. If you are only interested in electronic sounds or you favor them, my suggestion would be to skip down to Cloudsdale Congress . Hopefully everyone has been enjoying these as much as I've enjoyed looking for them. Enjoy.

Brooklyn's own fuzz-poppers Darlings have a new full length LP, Perfect Trip . The album was recorded in The Headroom (in Philadelphia) and mastered at Death by Audio . This right here is track number seven. Listen. Downloadable: Floor Boy (mp3) You can pay-what-you-want for Perfect Trip @ darlings.bandcamp.com (until next Tuesday). You can pick up a copy on vinyl at the next Darlings show. Upcoming Show: February 8th @ Death by [...]
Darlings are garage-popping their way through your ceiling – but don’t start thumping your broomsticks until you have a listen to their new album, Perfect Trip.

by Bill Pearis Brooklyn's Darlings are self-releasing their new album, Perfect Trip a couple weeks (January 29) which is loaded with catchy, sneary guitar pop. We've got the premeire of catchy, snotty track "Sit on It!" right here in this post and you can stream it below. I think the Fonz would approve. The band have a few local shows lined up. Friday night (1/18) they play 285 Kent with Total Slacker, [...]

Brooklyn slacker pop outfit Darlings have been a long-time favorite. Darlings from 2009 was a top LP for that year, and their Warma EP follow-up in 2010 followed suit for EPs. Then they went silent for a year or so before giving us a 73 single with Pet The Ghost in 2012 with the promise of a new LP on the way in 2013. Well the time has come and the new LP, Perfect Trip , is less than one month from its release date. [...]

It's day three of my top 50 countdown, meaning we're in the middle and doing #30 down to #21. Par with how the previous two have gone, we begin with a pair of honorary mentions. * * * * * Honorary Mention: Pet The Ghost (73 Single) by Darlings I loved Darlings' self-titled LP from 2009 and their follow up EP, Warma in 2010 was pretty phenomenal as well. My first highly anticipated album of 2013 came when the band gave us [...]

Photo by Greg Stonebraker Among our favorite Seattle punk trios is The Wimps - who recently signed to End of Time, the new label founded by Sarah Moody formerly of Hardly Art - and they have a new track from their forthcoming Repeat entitled "Nap." Now that we are in full blown winter weather turf - yeah, "All I wanna do is nap!" [ Pitchfork ] Phosphorescent has just announced a new album for 2013. [...]

It's no secret I think remixes is a really cool thing. It's just so different from my own acoustic style and it's always so interesting to hear how other people interpret my music. So this year I asked Sami Sirviö , guitarrist in Swedish rock band Kent to make a remix of my new Christmas single and he said yes. If you're Swedish you probably don't need me to introduce Sami to you, since Kent is one of Sweden's biggest rock bands, but for the rest of you Sami is probably the next Nobel Prize winner (at [...]

Here's a new tune via soundcloud called "Nothing I Don't Care For" by way of Brooklyn based Darlings . It's a self-described slacker pop tune that's been resonating in my ears today and I wanted to share it with all of your lovely people. The band have a new album entitled Perfect Trip coming out the first of the year on January 29th.
