Warning: May contain spoilers! I watched the film Fat Girls for the first time a couple of days ago...a film I have wanted to see ever since I first read about it being in production (over a year ago). And, whilst not all its scenes are entirely successful, or necessary for driving the 'plot' forward, I rather enjoyed it as a whole. The story is centred around a high school student named Rodney (Ash Christian who, aged 20, also wrote, directed and co-produced Fat Girls), who thinks of... Please visit Ceci N'est Pas un [...]

It seems we were all well and truly shafted by the Chancellor yesterday. Being a smoker and a driver I was crucified, thank god I don't drink! Instead of dealing with the real issues in this country (poverty, the impending recession, teenagers and the fact that no-one can afford to by a house )Alistair Darling, in his infinite wisdom, decided that people who happen to own a car, like a drink and who smoke should bear the brunt of his ineptitude - the bastard!! That being said, at least me ol' nan will be warm next winter! Anyhoo, to cheer [...]

Large parts of the UK were hit by an earthquake last night, which had people panicking and jamming the emergency services' switchboards all over the shop. This being Blighty, though, the earthquake was only a fairly teensy one (lasting just a quarter of a minute and registering a steady but unspectacular 5.2 on the Richter scale), which thankfully didn't kill or seriously injure anyone. In fact, the sum extent of the damage it wreaked appears to be a few toppled chimney pots here and there. Anyway, gawd help us if we were ever to get a proper quake [...]

Sons and Daughters is famous for unique electro-indie rock that incorporates rockabilly, punk, blues and basically whatever else they are inspired by. Their new release, This Gift, is a testament to their quirky talent. With a new producer, the album is a remarkable improvement from past releases, offering a crisper, more eclectic sound with brighter vocals. "Darling" is probably the most danceable jam so far to come from Sons and Daughters, while "Rebel With The Ghost" mixes Motown with dirty garage rock. Unfortunately, the album is brought down by the dull repetitiveness of "The Bell," and "Goodbye Service" seems to [...]

(Photo from WeePOP's website) I have been quite clear on this earlier, - I don't like cds. Until the recent years, when it has been possible to buy good music without getting the actual cd, my view on "the thing" has been that they're a necessary evil that fills up space I need for more beautiful and useful things. I like SOME cds. The ones that comes without the plastic boxes, and that feels good to touch and look at. And I adore the cds from the small label WeePOP! records [...]

Two new releases on the Wee Pop label to write about. First up is the Photo EP by The Darlings who are an indie pop band with plenty of alt-country influences. Their original songs are lovely, cute and in the case of Emily pretty funny. I just hope she isn't listening. They finish with a pretty good ukulele driven cover of AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long . Shake yourself now Angus! Sticking with the Australian theme is the [...]

I'm in love with The Darlings. I'll get that out now. When I first heard the songs off their myspace, the mail couldn't come fast enough. They are a five-piece band from London lead by Elizabeth Darling and their first release, Photo EP is out now on the ever so amazing Wee Pop! Records. With every CD there is a different picture, so each package is unique! These photos were taken during Elizabeth's travels and I got picture of women attempting to use a purple tent as a blanket. What will you get? The first song , "Anything [...]
