Never mind the buzzkill. In spite of political scandals, widespread unemployment, and a downward spiral of economic and architectural decay, southern Michigan's music scene has never been more vibrant. Leave it to Flint native Michael Moore to document the downturn; Ann Arbor label Quite Scientific Records is celebrating the upside: the seemingly limitless creative potential of an area of the U.S. with a glorious musical history and, perhaps, an even brighter musical future. In this EXCLUSIVE interview, QuiSci co-founder Brian Peters gives us the skinny on what makes the greater Detroit area such fertile [...]

The Dead Bodies Genre: Rock / Alternative / Pop From: Shelby Township, Michigan United States The Dead Bodies remind us that there is a strong, often forgotten, difference between the challenging and the esoteric. This distinction lies in the subtle detail and craftsmanship of records not often falling squarely below the genre placards of your local chain retailer. If [...]

It's been a couple months since I last mentioned the Dead Bodies , and as we inch closer to the release date for Mr Spookehouse's Pink House, I can report to you that they're still wonderfully weird. Although neither "Mr Spookehouse Himself" nor "In Heaven, We All Are" will induce head-scratch fever like the previously unleashed "Pink Muff Dance Party Vampire Resolve," they do share that same playful, adventurous spirit. So what makes "Mr Spookehouse Himself" so weird, you ask? Well, as this slightly off-kilter, mid-tempo starts you find out that Mr Spookehouse lives in a [...]

Geinig bandje. The Dead Bodies - In Heaven, We All Are [...]

So much of life, it seems to me, is determined by pure randomness. - Sidney Poitier Sometimes you just have to throw it all to the wind and let the randomness of life take over. We've got a treasure trove of sweet downloads this month, so many in fact, that you may notice there are fourteen listed below...rendering our "Bakers Dozen" title ridiculous this month. Andrew Bird - "Heretics" mp3 Ted Leo and the Pharmacists - "The Sons of Cain" mp3 The Besnard Lakes - "And You Lied to Me" mp3 Sparta - "The Most Vicious Crime" mp3 Future [...]

Where do I start? "Pink Muff Dance Party Vampire Resolve." I have no clue what it all means. It could be one helluva good time, or, it could be super scary dangerous. Musically, this tune is split in two. The first half, the Pink Muff Dance Party, is a funhouse disco party with helium fueled vocals. It's some truly strange sh*t. The second half, what I'm assuming to be the Vampire Resolve, moves towards Grandaddy type futuristic space rock. When you add these two parts together, you get something truly different. Surprisingly, I'm really drawn to these guys. They may [...]

Detroit based band, The Dead Bodies, have been on something a little too long. Why do I say so? Just listen to their music and you'll see exactly why. A good way to categorize their music would be describe it as a mesh of indie pop and psychadelia with a tinge of brit pop a la Little Barrie . They're not paranoid yet, which is a good thing, but you never know. (That's probably chocolate syrup). The album (due March '07) starts off with [...]

Detroit, MI I highly doubt The Dead Bodies are like anything you're listening to right now. For me, this is very refreshing. "Pink Muff Dance Party Vampire Resolve" The Dead Bodies on MySpace

If someone sends me a song called "Pink Muff Dance Party Vampire Resolve" by a band called Dead Bodies and it doesn't make my ears bleed, I'm definitely going to post it. Unless I'm just darn lazy. This track has some spookyish child vocals before it turns into an Art Brut sounding ditty. I'd be interested to hear the rest of the album... Here's the track .
