Casey Crescenzo has recorded four full-length albums as  The Dear Hunter (three of which are the first half in a planned six-part series), as well as a novel based on the albums' mythology. His latest album, Migrant , stands alone. It's Crescenzo's first time working outside of the structure of a concept album and while it reaches the grandiosity of his previous releases, the results are uneven. Casey Crescenzo has spent the last six years of The Dear Hunter' s existence hiding behind concepts: from the half-finished Act series to the recent Color Spectrum EP collection. On May 9th of last year, Prog-rock outfit The Dear Hunter played a one-off gig at Somerville Theater just outside Boston. The special engagement was the one and only time the band played 20112s nine-EP, 36-song compilation The Color Spectrum in its sequential entirety. Hunting for the “dear” rather than hunting “deer,” Casey Crescenzo undertakes grand ambitions while distilling life down small, simple moments and powerful emotions. Anthony Green and The Dear Hunter have been touring partners for quite some time. In fact, I first saw them together in 2007 at Farmingdale, NY’s Crazy Donkey. Even though TDH’s Casey Crescenzo and Circa Survive frontman Green have never played in the same band, playing together like this for so long inevitably leads to some strong bonds.
