Casey Crescenzo has recorded four full-length albums as The Dear Hunter (three of which are the first half in a planned six-part series), as well as a novel based on the albums' mythology. His latest album, Migrant , stands alone. It's Crescenzo's first time working outside of the structure of a concept album and while it reaches the grandiosity of his previous releases, the results are uneven. Most of what's worthwhile in Migrant fades out halfway through the album. The build of opener "Bring You Down" has an imperceptible anxiety to it that sits [...]

Some of these are poppier than others. Some, such as Twenty One Pilots , sound like they should be on the radio right now, and while they will likely end up there, they haven't found their way yet. So, get them while they are hot... er, hipster-cool. Maybe some are too poppy to ever be hipster-cool. Which is dumb, but the 'why', to that point, is a conversation for another time. Silver Screen - "Really No Wonder" RED HANDS - "Walk Off The Earth" [...]

Casey Crescenzo has spent the last six years of The Dear Hunter' s existence hiding behind concepts: from the half-finished Act series to the recent Color Spectrum EP collection. Those endeavors must have unlocked something inside the man, though, because on The Dear Hunter's forthcoming fifth album, Migrant, Crescenzo's getting personal. This brand of soul searching was apparent on lead single "Whisper" , and it's there again on new track "An Escape". "All the holes I bled from / forcing everyone around my heart to leave me," he bellows in that [...]

On May 9th of last year, Prog-rock outfit The Dear Hunter played a one-off gig at Somerville Theater just outside Boston. The special engagement was the one and only time the band played 20112s nine-EP, 36-song compilation The Color Spectrum in its sequential entirety. Of course, you don't let a sold-out event like that go undocumented, so HD cameras were on hand to capture the affair on film, and now The Color Spectrum Live DVD is set for release on March 12th. As a taste of the concert film, the band has selected [...]
Hunting for the “dear” rather than hunting “deer,” Casey Crescenzo undertakes grand ambitions while distilling life down small, simple moments and powerful emotions. The Dear Hunter was created in 2005 by Casey Crescenzo as a side project to his membership in Boston’s the Receiving End of Sirens , a place where he could record music that didn’t exactly fit the Sirens’ sound. With a demo tape recorded that same year ( Dear Ms. Landing ), viral buzz began to spread. By May 2006, Crescenzo had made The Dear Hunter a full-time undertaking. Unbowed by [...]

It's no secret that every single night in Music City we have an infinite amount of live music at our disposal. Tonight especially, there are several great shows on my radar so instead of just picking one to focus on, I'm going to bring you a quick rundown on all of them. It's a Tuesday, so no excuses not to catch some great bands! _ Coheed & Cambria w/ The Dear Hunter and Three @ Marathon Music Works I'll be the first to admit proggy rockers [...]

Coheed and Cambria will release the second half of their new double album The Afterman on February 5th via Everything Evil/Hundred Handed Inc. Descension will pick up where Ascension left off, chronicling the fallout from Sirus Armory's discovery of the afterlife. As the press release explains: In the story arc of The Afterman: Descension , we continue the conceptual storyline from volume one, where Sirius Amory, i.e., “The Afterman,” is a scientist/cosmonaut who goes on celestial mission [...]

Anthony Green and The Dear Hunter have been touring partners for quite some time. In fact, I first saw them together in 2007 at Farmingdale, NY’s Crazy Donkey. Even though TDH’s Casey Crescenzo and Circa Survive frontman Green have never played in the same band, playing together like this for so long inevitably leads to some strong bonds. Last night at The Met in Pawtucket, RI, with TDH acting as Green’s backing band, the two put their enduring partnership on display, and it became clear theirs is more than a relationship between musical peers - it’s family. [...]

Progressive Rock, Experimental, Indie Rock, Alternative- The Dear Hunter is a project of Casey Crescenzo, formerly of The Receiving End of Sirens. The band's sound has more elements of indie and progressive rock, with a wider variety of instrumentation, than Sirens' post-hardcore tendencies. The band returns to Pittsburgh on 6/20/12 at Mr. Smalls with Anthony [...]

So good to be back at The Fonda with familiar faces and a band that LA hasn't heard live in many years. Yes, England's Kasabian even brought presents for making us wait. White Ts with single words were given to many to put on. It was never stated what it was for, but it looked to be words to a song. The Dear Hunter took the stage for a short and sweet set as the crowd started to fill out the room. Then Kasabian brought the real present. Their music. Setlist: Days Are Forgotten Shoot the [...]
