Filed under: News , Holy Hell Spencer Platt, Getty Images New York City Police began forcibly removing Occupy Wall Street protesters from their location in the city's Zuccotti Park Tuesday morning. And it appears the Roots ' drummer Questlove had a hunch about the raid, leaving some news sites referring to him as a modern-day Paul Revere. In a string of tweets early Tuesday, the drummer predicted that something was in the [...]
Mmmhmm, RJD2 and Aaron Livingston are back as Icebird . Listen below. The song gets a wee bit Axis Bold as Love in the middle but why wouldn't it with Livingston's gritty pipes..and yaayy it starts up hard again towards the end with some creepy Flock of Wawa voices chiming in at the end. This is more of musical exercise than a, but I'm feeling it..:

If you haven't heard of Guineafowl until now, we'll forgive you, as we're just catching onto the band ourselves. The Australian group is coming to the States to support the release of their Guineafowl EP. The feel of their first US single totally epitomizes my need for high-fueled energy on Wednesday; it's got bits of stomping, yet I can sort of hear that blissful swoon of the Dears hiding beneath their guitar work lines. Just sort of imagine blending pieces of eclectic elements with bits of [...]

Tweet Are you going through a traumatic break-up? If so I'd give this one a miss if I were you. Keaton Henson went through one, and then recorded some songs in his bedroom, including You Don't Know How Lucky You Are : Sombre. And striking. Crikey. I've chosen a photograph of Henson in a stupid mask to sort of keep things relaxed. I've also just hit the wrong button and caused my iTunes [...]

Born in 1995, The Dears is the lifework of Murray A. Lightburn. Son of a jazzman-turned-preacher, Lightburn's attunement to songwriting was shaped equally by nineties rock and a broad tableau of gospel, soul, and pop music. Early incarnations of The Dears brought bassist Roberto Arquilla into the fold, followed by Natalia Yanchak on vocals and [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. AP Jack Layton, the leader of Canada's New Democratic Party and the country's Official Opposition, died Aug. 22 at his Toronto home after a battle with cancer. He was 61. Layton's sudden passing has rocked the nation, with musicians like Broken Social Scene 's Kevin Drew and more taking to Twitter to reflect upon his life and the amazing man he was (which you can get a sense from while [...]

Jagjaguwar You'll excuse the brevity of today's post as I try to pretend I'm still on some kind of holiday schedule. Hope everyone in Canada had a lovely long weekend and everyone in America is still enjoying theirs; today is a sort of belated Canada Day-ish post. Note the "ish". Many were disappointed when Wolf Parade made good on their promise to call it a day - at least for the foreseeable future after a couple of final shows at the end of may, but if anything that means fans will have [...]

Someone on the Polaris jury described this album as a " Pet Shop Boys in Avalon " parody record. Not sure I really agree with that description as funny as it it but while Kaputt wasn't bad, it all started to sound the same to me after a while.... Our continuing series looking at all forty albums nominated for the Canadian Polaris Music Prize long list ( CLICK HERE to see the full list once it's complete....) I gotta respect the sheer ambition and audacity of Montreal's The Dears . They were definitely swinging for the rafter with this record which literally dripped epic-ness and the sweat of their effort to make a record that's important. The Brtipop/rock influence seems obvious too : musically the album put me in the mind of [...]

Jessica Eaton Though they should be - and probably are - at work on their next album, a follow-up to last year's The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night , Montreal's Besnard Lakes have put together a little something something that will not only slake their fans' appetite for some new outer space-scale rock, but give them an excuse to get out of the studio and back on the road for a spell. On September 20, they'll release You Lived In the City , a new 123 EP that [...]

After two years of near perpetual touring, Boston quartet The Wandas finally made it back into the studio to record a new album. Spontaneity and road chops were the name of the game once holed up in MixArt Studios with producer/Dears guitarist Patrick Krief and a slew of vintage gear. Eschewing studio trickery, all harmony vocals were recorded around a single microphone and the entire project was recorded in six days with an assist from members of The Stills, Stars and The Dears, while veteran engineer Dave Schiffman (Tom Petty, Johnny Cash) handled the [...]
