M y dad used to sneak into my room and play my guitar. I always knew he'd done it because the levels were all messed up on my amp or there was a Beatles songbook laying on the floor. One of the songs he used to play was "I'm A Loser". Well, now we're all losers, or at least we're part of a Gang of Losers, or at least The Dears are. With some label finagling Gang of Losers is set to be released 3October in the US [...]
If there's one thing that i love about The Dears , is how on every song you're guaranteed to have leadsinger Murray Lightburn singing his heart out for you. From these few new tracks i've been listening to it proves no different. Those who have listened to their previous album No Cities Left know exactly how amazing this man's voice is. Listening to that album felt like listening to some lost britpop album from Blur as Murray's voice had a striking resemblance to Damon Albarn, even Morrissey at times. [...]

Together with Arcade Fire, The Dears are Canada's finest band. Dixit wikipedia again, "The band's music has been described as a cross between The Smiths, Serge Gainsbourg and Joy Division, with Lightburn's singing voice being likened to that of Blur's Damon Albarn and, more obviously, Morrissey of The Smiths". Their third album, Gang of Loser, is set for release for end of August and will for sure be a highlight of this year releases. We Can Have It is the opener to No Cities Left, their previous effort. The song was also voted single of the [...]

Thanks to J at Heart on a Stick for alerting me that The Dears are playing Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday, September 12. Tickets are $17 and on sale now . The band should be good and warmed up after a summer playing festivals in Europe, and hopefully hyped by the impending release of their great new album, Gang of Losers , due out October 4 via Arts & Crafts . So glad they're playing here [...]

The Dears have recently signed on with Canadian powerhouse label Arts & Crafts for the release of their upcoming album Gang Of Losers . After picking up the Hidden Cameras just last month it seems Arts & Crafts is finally deciding to pick up more and more acts outside of the Broken Social Scene circle. Here's a track from the upcoming album Gang Of Losers which will be released October 3rd in the US. [MP3]: The Dears :: Bandwagoneers (Recommended!) I'm not very familiar at [...]
The Dears are Canada's best music export for one simple reason; their songs actually mean something. Broken Social Scene hides the importance of their songs behind layers of dense noise all in the name of community. Wolf Parade, if they don't simply collapse before their second album, utilize arcane symbolism as a vessel for their intensity. New Pornographers are too sugary sweet, with maybe a tad
Kanadalainen The Dears julkaisee elokuussa (6. päivä USA, 28. päivä Eurooppa) kolmannen albuminsa Gang Of Lovers . Radikaalia eroa edelliseen, eeppiseen No Cities Left -levyyn ei ole syntynyt. Kappaleet ovat edelleen melodisia, monikerroksia ja kuorrutettu vahvoilla lauluosuuksilla. Yhtyeen omien sanojen mukaan uusi materiaali kuitenkin eroaa aiemmasta: "As (I think) we've mentioned before, it is somewhat of a stripped down, raw affair. There is French horn in 2 songs and saxophone in another. Though there is some mellotron-ny stuff, there are no real violins, violas or cellos. I guess that means that [...]

I received the first of two summer burns CD's in the mail this week. I want to listen to it a little more before I give a full review, but so far it is really good. If features tons of UK artists that I had never heard of until now. I will go into more detail another time. This is the time to honour Canada as it celebrates its 139th birthday (July 1). As a present, the Harbourfront Centre is hosting three full days of concerts (The Dears, Jason Collett, The Refugee All Stars, etc...), movies (City of [...]

I'm sure many of you remember No Cities Left , a great album from Montreal's The Dears . It was an album released in 2004 that drew much acclaim from critics and fans alike, with a raw and epic sound that made it one of my top ten albums of the year. Their sound reminds me of an odd cross between Oasis and Pearl Jam, with vocalist Murray Lightburn's deep and occasionally raspy vocals creating a unique flavor. Some people compare him to Morrissey, but I don't see the similarities. I like his voice [...]
Photo from LITC show in Cambridge. I am remote blogging so this one is going to be quick. Montreal's The Dears make orchestral-pop that has an epic scale. It is almost operatic. This, my friends, is powerful stuff. These tracks are from their BBC6 Lamacq in the City concert in Cambridge and their 2004 studio session with KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic . Look out for a new album, titled "Gang of Losers", due out in August. The Dears, Morning Becomes Eclectic, KCRW, 29 November [...]
If there were no crowds, this would be my schedule for Day 2 of Coachella with some minor overlap: The Octopus Project The Dears (or Murs, it'll be a gametime decision) James Blunt (just for lolz) The Magic Numbers (while wishing I was at Ted Leo) Metric Wolf Parade Gnarls Barkley Sleater-Kinney Seu Jorge Mogwai Massive Attack Dungen Art Brut [...]
The White [...]
