Tuesday, January 26, 2010 Today's Quick Mention: Do you guys realize that the final season of Lost starts in exactly one week!? It's crazy to think we'll finally find out what the hell we've been watching all these years. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds, and that's regardless of whether it's awesome or not. Seriously. Just need to know. I received today's music from The Delta Mirror last week, blinked and then noticed it was all over the [...]
Los Angeles goth-gazers The Delta Mirror have announced the release of their new album. Machines That Listen is poised to drop on March 16th. In the meantime, we've got a track for you to get yourself familiar with the band. Don't hesitate and grab the mouthful of a song "He Was Worse Than the Needle He Gave You". Even though they're not officially in this week's mix, I highly recommend you go download those two tracks from Death On Two Wheels (previous post), and just DIY add them to the mixtape. Merging brooding vocals (reminding me of Interpol 's Paul Banks) with boom bap production, the debut sounds haunting, full of ear-tickling electronics, psych layers, and foreboding storytelling. Keeps your eyes peeled for spring touring, with a stop at SXSW. Song : He Was [...]

I have fallen in love with this track from The Delta Mirror , the latest signee to Lefse Records - home of Neon Indian, A Grave With No Name and Tape Deck Mountain. The project consists of Los Angeles-based Craig Gordon and David Bolt. Their forthcoming debut long-player, Machines That Listen will be released March 19th. The sound is an ambient combo of shoegaze, weaving laptop-generated electronic backgrounds, and layered, gothic-infused vocals. Fans of The Big Pink, Dead Man's [...]

Live: Letdown and Biltmore Dive at Red and Black Cafe, 12.27.08 Thick piles of cables snaked up from the floor, finding their way into a bank of effects boxes and a keyboard with a sticker that read "Sad Music Makes Me Happy." Sad music makes me happy, too, but the sight of all that gadgetry made me more anxious than anything ... you never know what you're going to get when someone has a lot of toys at their disposal. Letdown is the moniker of Portland electro-whiz David [...]
