Dreamy dream pop.New from The Depreciation GuildDream About Me - The Depreciation Guildvia NME's Daily DownloadKanine Records

The idea of bands supporting themselves has always been something that I've held in high regard. After going to see British Sea Power supported by The Pipettes and a British Sea Power b-sides set, it's bewildering why bands don't do it more often. People get there earlier, and there's generally a better feel about the place, instead of everyone drifting in 10 minutes before the main act come on stage. Of course, it does mean that the work load is pretty much doubled, which could inevitably lead to exhaustion and an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness, but nevermind. [...]

Dreamy dream pop. New from The Depreciation Guild Dream About Me - The Depreciation Guild via NME's Daily Download Kanine Records

Brooklyn based 3 piece The Depreciation Guild (who include 2 members of The Pains Of Pure At Heart) have announced their debut UP tour. Described by Pitchfork as " Laptop pop and shoegaze" the band bring their dream-pop meets 8-bit sound to our shores to play both headline slots and support dates with The Pains Of Pure At Heart The tour precedes a new album release scheduled for early 2010 through the Brooklyn indie label Kanine records (Grizzly Bear, Chairlift, Superblood) which is the [...]
My first CMJ Music Marathon was a fun-tastic one. Most of my CMJ-ing was done @ Pianos, a great little venue on historic Ludlow St. I've discovered at least half a dozen promising new bands (Seven Saturdays, Warpaint, Deastro, Peggy Sue, Jeff The Brotherhood , Hurricane Bells, Pete & The Pirates, Choir Of Young Believers) which will [...]
Somehow it's November already. Enjoy it, fast. Matt Shogi "This Charming Man" (The Smiths) from An 8bit Tribute To The Smiths The Depreciation Guild "Butterfly Kisses" from In Her Gentle Jaws +/- "Steal The Blueprints" from Let's Build A Fire Echo & The Bunnymen "I Think I Need It Too" from The Fountain The Action "Something To Say" from Rolled Gold [...]

All settled in with the "new" Free Music Fridays routine yet? Still free, still music, still Fridays, just every other Friday. And as always, they are all free and legal for you to download and enjoy, just click the band name for the band's site and the song name for the MP3. PLUS, for your edification, the continuation of our nice little visual art education/appreciation theme to go along with your candy, I mean, you gots to eat your vegetables too, right? Or pumpkins as it were.... Right, so this week [...]

A map to tell emo from screamo from ??. But. This album is a well-Cured, airbrushed ecstasy, but I already have the sweeter The Pains of Being Pure at Heart for the mascara moments, thanks, and Fallout Boy this ain't. Still. I bet the singer looks good in skinny jeans. Reminds us of: Slanted fringes | hypothermic Robert Smith | The Pains of Being Pure at Heart The Depreciation Guild: ( Website | MySpace ) depreciation guild in [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News London's the XX , one of the most talked about bands of 2009 and one of CMJ 's most prolific acts, didn't lose any steam this week. After a Tuesday showcase at New York City's Mercury Lounge that saw a line snaking around the block and a lot of disappointed fans turned away, the foursome moved on to the Delancey Thursday night. But their biggest show was opening for School of Seven Bells at the Music Hall of [...]

One of the great aspects of CMJ is being able to bounce around from venue to venue to catch different acts. Check out our videos from Tuesday night in the Lower East Side.

Starting the evening with two local bands from Brooklyn, we made our way to Cake Shop for the experimental pop/rock of The Depreciation Guild , then Hank and Cupcakes at The Delancey . Hank and Cupcakes took electronic beats and added the nice touch of bass by Hank, drums and vocals by Cupcakes - who showed the many facets of her voice along with her versatility on the drums. At the Bowery Ballroom , Fanfarlo (from London) played with posture – executing simple good music without any complications in their act. [...]

Chicago, we just do not get a moment's rest! And that's a lovely thing in October, because we are treated to so many good shows before the weather gets really nasty and we hole up in our apartments and refuse to go out at night. So get out while the gettin's good and honestly I can't recommend this show enough. Featuring the School of Seven Bells , Warpaint and Panda Riot , the Depreciation Guild returns to Chicago to wow us with this incredible lineup at The Empty Bottle tomorrow night. [...]

Favorite new song alert! As soon as I heard their new single, "Dream About Me," I rushed to alert my friend Chet who's a big fan of Ocean Blue and Prefab Sprout and while he hasn't reported back yet, I expect to hear that The Depreciation Guild is right up his alley. The band's sound transports me back to the early nineties, the years Chet and I were in radio together. The band takes the lush, dreamy pop sounds of early 4ad bands and distresses them a bit with fuzzy electronics and gentle reverb. Lots of other folks are taking [...]
Official Website MySpace Facebook Twitter One of the last, big music festivals of the year, CMJ Music Marathon is back for it's 29th year. Taking place in over 75 venues all around New York City. This all goes down a week from now, October 20-24. Much like SXSW and all the other big industry music festivals, you got your [...]

The Depreciation Guild will be kicking off a tour tonight with School of Seven Bells in Portland, OR. It doesn't look like the two bands will be touring together by the time they hit New York City, but it looks like each act will be doing separate shows in New York during CMJ. School of Seven Bells will play the Music Hall of Williamsburg on October 23, and The Depreciation Guild have a trio of shows scheduled during the festival's week. All dates are below. The Depreciation Guild tour dates: Dates marked [...]
The latest, greatest exponents of ambient indie-pop, the Depreciation Guild build sonic castles in the sky on their album In Her Gentle Jaws . People like to talk about the shoegaze side of their sound, and while it's definitely there, these Brooklyn boys have got a lot more than that to their musical makeup. Start thinking about a gutsier, more guitar-heavy version of High Places and you might be more on track. But if you want to get the lowdown on the Guild's sound in person, you'll [...]

A year ago, were you to see into the future via some cosmic dog-eared copy of The Voice dated 10/3/2009 - and here I'm cribbing a plot line from Back to the Future II and Biff's sports almanac from the future, but you get the idea - would you think Saturday night's triple bill was a misprint? You know, like the venue should read Cake Shop instead of Webster Hall? Because time was, you could stroll a dozen blocks down to Ludlow Street and pretty much see the same lineup, but [...]
