As "great" as the Toronto indie scene is, we've got tons of great artists across the homeland. The Details are from the Peg a place I'd like to visit (no particular reason...despite what they say). I wanted to review their album "Draw A Distance, Draw A Border" after hearing only one track "The Height of Land". At hindsight when picking up the album, I felt I might've been premature in requesting an album promo from Killbeat Music . Time was just all I needed and eventually the album became quite decent actually. Their [...]

Before I get into all of this, be sure to enter our Ragged/Filter contest - we're giving out a bunch of free goodies, so don't miss out! Now, on to our mix. Our third installment of the weekend mix is a particularly good one and includes a lot of music from the UK, per usual. You may have perused our new music this week and noticed we were talked up Tokyo Police Club quite a bit. No album this year hit me quite the same as this one - [...]

(Day 1 begins here.) DAY 1 (continued) 7. The Playing Favorites As we'd often split up with our sometimes-varying band schedules, phone texting proved essential for coordinating and commenting on stuff we were all seeing. John had gone to see The Playing Favorites, and I'd had them on my schedule too, but for whatever reason Pinstripe had been ranked higher (and I wasn't quite "aware enough" at

Photo by Frank Yang In past years, my Canadian Music Week excursions have been mainly stationary affairs - that is, pick a showcase, head out, catch a few acts, go home. I eschewed the club-hopping aspect of things mainly because with a few exceptions, Toronto is a bit too spread out to do that efficiently - particularly in Winter when you're at the mercy of the TTC. But this year, there was enough of interest at different venues around town that I elected to bounce from club to club, hour to hour, at [...]

Here is a gift for the 7th day of Christmas....My first (and hopefully annual, and preferably earlier in the season) My Space Holiday Collection Vol. 1. As you may know, I have compiled several My Space tracks. Some of them may be on EPs, CDs, LPs, or online only. As far as I know, these are all online only...I don't recall seeing record names on a lot of these when I found them. You may download the tracks individually or they are zipped for your convenience, along with CD artwork in case you want to [...]

Humblest apologies for my recent short hiatus. The Christmas season can really eat up your time. I would very much like to make up for my relative silence, and also wish you all a very Merry Christmas. I can think of only one way to do both these things: a super-awesome Three Pints Christmas Mix. Enjoy! " Blue Christmas " - Johnny Cash " God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen " - Bright Eyes " Christmas Song " - Chris Garneau " Rock of Ages " - Ben Kweller " O Come, O Come, Emmanuel [...]

I'm not sure why, but I'm not feeling the holiday spirit this year. Not yet anyway. Hence the Christmas- and winter songs this week. Because I don't want to be The Grinch! MP3: The Mystery Jets - "Flakes" MP3: The Pipettes - "A Winters Sky" MP3: Monogold - "Snow On [...]

I'm trying--really, I am--to get into the holiday spirit this year, and not let the weight of all the chores and errands I have yet to do get the better of me. Thanks to Winnipeg's The Details for reminding us that it's not all spiced rum and eggnog, presents and Christmas cheer. Some among us are fighting what feels like a losing battle just to make sure that the necessities of life are in the cupboards, let alone video game consoles under the tree. "Stings and Ribbons" is a blue [...]
Busy times with school work this week, so I wasn't able to get a mix out for Friday. However, I will give you one for your Monday workday to help you get over that weekend hangover and I'll be back on Friday. Enjoy! Ever since I popped Draw a distance. Draw a border. into my stereo about a week ago I've been listening to the Details on repeat, in part because I was almost immediately sure I wanted to post on the album, and in part because I wanted to discern if their music is the type that gets better with each listen. I'm still not sure. Draw a distance. Draw a border. places humorless, tension-fraught lyrics, written in complete sentences, over the backdrop of a vast musical landscape, with instrumentation that is imposing enough to [...]

In most forms of contemporary rock music, it is highly perceptible that mood has the ability to dictate tempo. Rock artists conventionally treat the listener to separate entities of diversity within an individual album, mixing calmer ballads with elaborately involved songs of a more chaotic nature in their attempt for fledging captivation. Just imagine how dull an album would sound if each song had the same amount of intensity. Regardless of whether each track consisted of one acoustic guitar or five electric guitars, it would be a generally unpleasant experience without the right touches of diversity. Some artists fall flat [...]

photo: David Hawthorne God, they say, is in the details. Check the liner notes to Draw A Distance. Draw A Border, the debut album from Manitoba's The Details , and you'll notice that The Most Divine One is missing from the band roster, but you can imagine him smiling down from a cloud high above Portage and Main with approval on the holy noise made by Jon Plett (vox/guitar/keys), Keli Martin (bass/keys), Sean Vidal (guitars/keys/vox) and Shaun Gobson (drums, percussions, vox). The band have traversed [...]

"The Details is a band. The Details is a band made of people. The Details is a band made up of four people. Two of these people share a name, albeit a different spelling. One of these people has a name that rhymes with the pair of name-sharers. One of these people has a name that rhymes with the word Jelly." The Details consists of Jon, Keli, Sean, and Shaun, and they make some very decent music. The Winnipeg, Alberta foursome released an EP last year and are set to release their debut LP Draw a Distance. [...]
It has now been a whole month since I posted anything on here. My travels around Eastern Europe was awesome to put it mildly - some amazing places and some even more amazing people. Thanks to everyone who offered to put me up and to those who did put up with Holly and myself [...]

I`d like to give BIG props to Killbeat music for hooking me up with some awesome music this summer. The Details arrived yesterday in the mail. It then jumped outta the CD case and into my PC. The lead singer sounds like someone familiar, but I can`t put a name on it. Anyways the track Reunion Souvenirs is one to add to the iPod playlist...so get it....and the album when it drops Sept. 25..... [...]
The Details are on the cusp of something big. I don't mean blog big, which essentially is an oxy moron these days, I mean MuchMusic, Canadian radio big (which again, I'm not sure if that's even that big). I also don't mean tomorrow. They show lots of potential, but I still think they are one record away from making the jump. September 25th will mark the release of their debut record - Draw a Distance. Draw a Border - and it manages to toe the line between radio rock and good ole fashioned indie rock quite well. [...]
