There was always an element of the daft in punk rock. The Dickies were the first Los Angeles punk act to cross the Atlantic. They had that same wilfully stupid thing going for them that The Ramones did, but they were more lurid, more camp. It worked. I mentioned once that I'd have loved to have seen The Ramones as a Saturday morning cartoon show, having adventures with vampires and werewolves. The Dickies were that band, and their famous cover of the Banana Splits theme tune is testament to that. They were known [...]

Bowery Electric: CBGB's Exile X-Mas Jahn Xavier with Lenny Kaye, and Tish & Snooky Here's a very special Christmas Playlist treat straight from DJ Tone . Once upon a time there was a little club called CBGB's OMFUG which was owned and operated by Hilly Kristal. He developed a home where a legacy of bands that defined NYC's underground music from The Ramones, Blondie to the The Patti Smith Group could perform. Every month these wayard punks that defined an era of music get together once a month. Punks in Exile from that [...]

If you're ever been in a bind and needed some pretty funky party disco then you always rely on some Disco Deviance to get fists pumping and feet stomping... The new one features the dream team of Pete Herbert and Dicky Trisco editing their way through some old classics and turning in a couple of disco hand clappin' bombs. DD22 - Do The Night Thang (Pete Herbert & Dicky Trisco Edit) by Disco Deviance DD22 - [...]

Gary Tovar , the LA promoter who started Goldenvoice , which became the huge promoter behind the Coachella music festival every spring in Indio, CA, has announced GV30 , a punk rock festival on Dec 16-18 at the Santa Monica (CA) Civic Auditorium to celebrate Goldenvoice's 30th anniversary of existence. Think of it as a pretty rad office party. From the blurbsters "Gary Tovar brings you GV30; three shows in honor of Goldenvoice's 30th Anniversary featuring Social Distortion, Bad Religion, Descendents and more. The artists and line-up for [...]
These shorts will do an individual fine through the course of a couple years, rather than through a season or less. This is due to the fact that Dickies has made these shorts rough and tumble, using a solid grade of denim and good stitch work. These shorts will not go out of fashion, either [...]
We're hosting Disco Devianc e's notorious Dicky Trisco at Mini Muzikhol this weekend. This Pulse Radio Mix is by Onur Engin who's just released a record on Disco Deviance.
"White honey, get it from the candyman..." Or: one more exclusive hand picked six pack. In this week's Colour Me installment, GP and the mighty Rumour talk sweet, punkpop pioneers the Dickies speed up a moody blues, while Dublin's finest the Virgin Prunes look for the promised land of milk and honey. Next up, Little Feat finds inspiration in the East, furious Frisco punks the Avengers end up on the dole, and sixties unknowns the Painted Ship tell fuzzy lies in the garage. If you like what you hear, please buy a featured album or two. [...]
