picture courtesy Wondermonkey2k. So with Utrecht coming up I've been thinking a bit more about digging for records. I'm not talking about researching through hundreds of blogs/radio shows/whatever really, more about what happens when you walk into a record store with crates galore, and don't know where to start. 1. Read the sleeve notes Damn right. You [...]
See the slideshow for more photos. It's tough to write up last night's show by the formerly notorious San Francisco pscyh-rock vets Brian Jonestown Massacre without bringing up the semi-celebrity t... Continue reading "Brian Jonestown Massacre at Exit/In 4/9/09" >

To be honest, I'm getting slightly annoyed with Blackclassical. This is something like the 4th or 5th mix I've heard of his, and they're all fucking brilliant. He's got secret agents working in far-off lands digging for him. He's got more amazing, rare records than you could shake an envious fist at. Basically, I'm going [...]
Download: Alla - "Love Lockdown"Everyone's favorite modern psychedelic trio Alla have announced that the CD Release Party for their covers EP Digs (yay for puns that don't reveal themselves until you read the record sleeve). The show will take place on April 2nd at Schubas Tavern. The group announced it themselves via a MySpace blog. Here's the remaining information, including openers:Confirmed

The Khyber is the prototypical rock and roll bar. Flyers and posters adorn the walls; the bathroom has a thick layer of stickers and graffiti; an old (unusable) smoke eater hangs from the ceiling—the usual stuff. My preconceived notions of The Dig had them playing a much bigger venue with more attendees. Oh, and the crowd was a regular ol' sausagefest, and, oddly enough, the place smelled like smoked meat. The Dig took the stage and dove right into their set. The guys are much younger than I had imagined, but they [...]
Monday: Pet Ghost Project @ Cake Shop 8pm $6 Gotta give props to the former Antler Justin Stivers who broke from the group to focus on this project. He has done a fantastic job of building and mixing various styles of rock, indie, and pop together to create something original but undeniably beautiful. Seeing them on Monday night would be a damn good way to kick off your kick. Pet Ghost Project - "The Age of Automatics" Tuesday: Mystery Jets + The Dig @ Bowery Ballroom 7:30pm $20 [...]
The Lovetones - Journeyman From the fourth Lovetones album, Journeyman is the perfect example of Matthew J Tow's knack for '60s-styled songwriting, original only in its startling recreation of the Kinks' psychedelic pop...so much so that it will make you want to rewatch Dig! Dimensions is out on Tuesday via Yep records. Buy MySpace Photo by polatina Posted in Song of the Day Tagged: Brian Jonestown Massacre, dig!, [...]
Tonight is rather slow for shows, but there are a few worth mentioning. Here in Baltimore head on over to the Sidebar to catch the Howlies. Or perhaps swing on down to DC to see The Dig at the Black Cat . Enjoy! mp3: The Dig - Good Luck and Games mp3: Howlies - Chimera

Brian Jonestown Massacre I admit that I knew very little about BJM before seeing the now infamous rock documentary 'Dig!' But I have picked up a few records and several EP's since then and I have grown into a really big fan of their music...maybe not Anton's persona, but definitely the music. They are very high on my curiosity scale for this year's Coachella. * 'I've Been Waiting' MP3
New York City's The Dig are leaving the Big Apple for the City of Brotherly Love to play at The Khyber on February 26th. Before hitting Philly, the fellas will be touring up and down the East Coast, starting in Washington DC on February 16th and culminating in Athens, Georgia on March 16th. The Dig has built a steady following through consistent touring since their 2007 acclaimed debut EP, Good Luck and Games , two month-long residencies at Piano's in NYC, and multiple performances on Fox's "Fearless Music". I have had three seperate conversations today around digging. Conversation 1 - Robd & I discussing Paul Humphrey & Cool Aid Chemist LP . Weird how you can talk about a record and think 'I want to hear that' and then suddenly hours later you are digging and it appears. I bought it Rob. By the way anyone into digging has to go to to On the beat - As ever London prices , sometimes, but jesus the depth of vinyl is stupid. Conversation 2 - Juliano ( Reckordkingz ) called for a [...]
Wow, Baltimore has an amazing Saturday lined up for the picking. Joe Squared has a solid show with local band Kadman, A Cat Called Cricket, and Mittenfields. Metro Gallery has the recently reviewed Deleted Scenes along with Lush Farm and Vnny Vegas. The Ottobar has some good hip hop from Soul Cannon and Young Sir Jim. Also don't forget that one of our favorite singer/songwriters from the area, Abby Mott, is playing a show at El Rancho Grande. DC has a few notable events as well. Via Audio and Modern Skirts play the [...]

You may wanna put on some flannel for this. The Dig takes the gritty sound of '90s grunge, throws in some synth and structure, and churns out smart, edgy tunes. Fresh off a residency at Pianos, an opening gig for Girl Talk and an appearance on Fearless Music, 2009 is shaping up to be an exciting year for the NYC four piece. * Not to be confused with The Diggs . Add [...]
Tonight in DC don't miss out on a seriously good show at the Rock and Roll Hotel . Bear Hands, Statehood, and Tigercity will be performing. Across town in Arlington, Virginia Iota has Telograph, US Royalty, and Albert React playing. Up north in Philly there are two pretty awesome shows as well. The Fire has NYC's The Dig along with Saudi Arabia, and TJ Kong & The Atomic Bomb. Finally the M Room has Imperial China, Busses, Persona, and Voodoo Econimics. mp3: The Dig - Marianne [...]
Love More (<3) Priscilla Ahn - A Good Day I think I said it pretty well in my original review. She's a real genuine musician. (see original review) Priscilla Ahn - I Don't Think So Priscilla Ahn - Red Cape N.E.R.D. - Seeing Sounds The only way I was able to really get into this album was by thinking of parts of [...]

SNOW DAY. If it stops snowing, go see The Dig tomorrow. I'm going, and you like to hang out with me at least. If you're lucky, maybe I'll pull one of my crazy stunts..."mannequin who comes to life"...maybe "sexy birthday"... Hes A Woman [...]
