If there was a term for electronic meets folk type genre, than that's what Dilettante would be. The Toronto project is comprised mainly of Tyler de Wit. He's offered his self-titled album for name your own price on Bandcamp . It's a collection of simple melodies and beautiful textures that is hard not to enjoy. Here is a track from the collection. Pompourri is decorated with accordion and other fun things like banjos. Dilettante- Pompourri

The Moor - "Warm Winter" Like the trees shedding their brown leaves, "Warm Winter" sits on the fence between two seasons -- and two moods. With a subtle coat of reverb and a pinch of '60s lounge pop style, The Moor sound ever so soothing and dreamy. It's as if folk, indie pop, and '60s lounge all melted together on a hot summer day, making the perfect soundtrack for the cold winter months ahead. The Moor's self-titled debut album is out August 23 via Dilettante. [...]

File under - Buzzing: Luke Rathborne LUKE RATHBORNE is a 22 year old songwriter from Maine, now living in Manhattan, that is about to release a double EP called " Dog Ears " on March 8th (DILETTANTE) filled with songs that should make an impact. Judging from the what just landed on my hard drive and from who is surrounding Rathborne, this one is set up for success. He's heading out to LA for a Troubadour date on March 15th, and then into SXSW for showcases at Fader, Paste [...]

In case you missed it - enjoy a streaming trainwreck this week on Pitchfork TV . Dig! - It's curious that this film is only 5 years old. Not for the faint hearted. Rated NC-17. And of course, it's never too late to enjoy a Dilettante tune - penned by Sir Joel Gion himself. 1970 Atlantic 7201 My good friend Jefferson Parker reminded me of Roy Harper's legacy and his influence on Jimmy Page - after he listened to a new Graham Coxon tune. (Curious if anyone has highlighted Graham's superb musicianship on his latest release - so many reviews these days focus on everything but the actual performance) He was impressed with GC's new tune. Jefferson is a music professor of mine. Besides writing and performing great songs , he has been pricing used LP's for 15+ years at the largest indie shop west of New Mexico [...]

HappyParts is wrapping up indie label office work- preparing to head to Austin tonight. If you know our history - you know we will lay down in traffic for true souls. We can not define it, but we know it, when we hear (feel) it. After completing a meta data worksheet for HPR catalog - it was clear that it was time for a exclusive SXSW web sampler. If you like what you hear - please support by making honest purchases via digital or physical - all of this costs time, and money- and the results are amazin'. Godspeed. [...]

Golden Animals in Nashville - InStore @ Grimey's @ 6pm Headline Set @ Exit/In later that night Dilettantes + Sir Lord Von Raven Thursday - San Francisco - Bottom of The Hill Friday - Monterey - Monterey Live

Every month, we dedicate a week of our podcast to highlighting some of the great local and out-of-town bands performing soon in the San Francisco Bay Area. We've got ten great bands playing some excellent shows this month, so head out and see some live music! About the bands: San Diego's The Muslims ("Beside Myself") recently changed their name to The Soft Pack , which means their buzz-building The Muslims LP is no longer self-titled. They'll be playing with [...]

How does a guy who constantly gets expressions like " Cobain-worthy " and " like prime Costello " hurled his way, manage to stay significantly unknown? Not only is Rob Szabo unknown in the world of pop music, but even in the world of indie rock he still seems to be a heavily guarded secret, appreciated by only a few astute, CBC loving individuals. The fact is that such overly flattering comparisons, while perhaps a tad extreme, are not entirely inaccurate. Rob Szabo is one of Canada's most gifted singer-songwriters, on par with fellow under appreciated [...]

The Valkarys Genre: Indie / Alternative / Psychedelic From: Edinburgh, Scotland United Kingdom There's more of the Bierkeller, The Cavern and Eric's about The Valkerys than Postcard Records and The Sound Of Young Scotland. They eschew the trendy scallydelica of the Zutons and the Coral preferring to keep it real with the more trad scouse sound of [...]

Apparently when I posted about YAI yesterday, I had their unofficial, but quite extensive fan site. Meanwhile, their very skint site has a previewette of the forthcoming "Dilettantes." And then there is this slab of comedic beauty. Tim Rogers is mocking us people - mocking us!!!11!!@!!!!!! Under Oath Magazine interview You Am I on Dilettantes by musich3ad Tags: dilettantes , symon parnell , yai , you am i

You Am I. Those who know, know. Those who don't, should. It's too bad Tim Rogers ran into visa troubles ("sir, please stop windmilling. it wont get your application approved.") No solo wits for we American You Am I fans this summer. But the guys are readying a new record, and while their webmaster is asleep at the wheel (news last updated 5-17-2007. like webmonkey, like band I guess?), Aussie site the Vine has posted a track called "Dilettantes," another bootstrap heartbreaker. oof. Dilettantes [...]
