I am going to Toronto for Canadian Music Week / Festival from March 20 to 23 (Leaving on the 24th). So I am going to try and make a list on who to check out for the event. This is for March 22nd. (If I have forgotten someone please make a comment) The Icelandic Airwaves Showcase is happening at the Drake Underground and starts at 7:30pm 12:30pm Folly & The Hunter @ Church of Holy Trinty - 10 Trinty Square [...]
I've been meaning to write something suitably effusive on grubby Ontario trio The Dirty Nil for quite some while now and even though they don't quite make my top three for dirty somethings (that'll be the 'Projectors, the 'Three, and the 'Beaches in that very particular order) their latest, Zombie Eyed, is well worth a listen in on. Well, I say that, even though it's one to keep a safe distance from at all times as all squalid distortions and rambunctious drums, it sounds akin to Pinkerton regurgitated – gristle 'n' all – by [...]
I love these motherfuckers so much I gave them their very own Berkeley Place tag. And normally, I post their songs before I even hear them. But this time I listened first. Zombie Eyed is another blazing, screaming punk rock song. It's what they do best. No, it's not a stretch, but who needs to stretch when you can bang out a song that kicks ass? And it's free.

Attention all waveriders who appreciate the alternative rock music of the 1990s. I’d like you to meet The Dirty Nil. This trio out of Dundas, Ontario is about to knock your block off! Seriously, I took one listen to their song off this split 7” with Northern Primitive and I’m sold. Wow! Just wow! The song is called ‘Zombie Eyed’, and I’m convinced it has the power to bring any person zombified before the age of forty back to life. What does it sound like? Imagine a scuzzy, slightly sped up [...]

Ontario’s The Dirty Nil recommended you play their new single “Zombie Eyed” at a high volume, and it’s easy to hear why. Loud, crunching riffs counteract sung-yell vocals that’s all used to perfectly get out some good ol’ happy aggression. With all of those zombie alerts going off around the country, maybe this song could be your soundtrack as you slice your way through the hordes. Zombie Eyed by The Dirty NIl Buy their split 7” with Northern Primitive now .

The Dirty Nil is the distorted rock trio of Luke Bentham (Guitar and Vocals), Kyle Fisher (Drums) and Dave Nardi (Bass) from Dundas in Canada. The Dirty Nil Loud and proud of it - The Dirty Nil make no pretence of being anything other than a band that enjoys the distortions of recordin g levels and play-back levels that bend the sounds to a rattle of shattering explosions, but underneath the feedback and distortion lies some distinctive musical ability. [...]
The Dirty Nil sent us a link to their Bandcamp page for their split 7" with Northern Primitive with a note that said, "Listen to Zombie Eyed at a motherfucking loud volume." We did. So should you. It will make you miss the 90s...even if you were born in them. You can download the 7" for free for the next month! The Dirty Nil/Northern Primitive Split 7" by The Dirty NIl/Northern Primitive

1/11/13- Friday's featured mp3s are; The Dirty Nil; Zombie Eyed Misun; Harlot Colleen Green; Time In The World Chelsea Light Moving; Empires of Time

On the surface Hamilton's The Dirty Nil and Welland's Northern Primitive don't seem to share a lot in common musically, other than an affinity for turning the volume to 11. That said, pairing together the woozy, psychedelic-inflected drone rock of Northern Primitive with the boozy, scuffed up garage rock of The Dirty Nil makes perfect sense when you hear them back-to-back on their so-fresh-you-smell-new-vinyl split 73 single courtesy of IndoorShoes Records. Add to that the beautifully shot split feature video that Southern Souls did [...]

Zombie Eyed by The Dirty NIl A bit of a grunge-inspired throwback from the guys in The Dirty Nil on "Zombie Eyed," which is a track that comes off the band's new split with Northern Primitive. Grab one of the 300 copies here . I'm really digging the hell out of this track. The guitars blare, and the melodic leads are absolutely killer. The chorus is catchy as hell, too. It perfectly personifies that happy middle ground between aggressive and downright catchy that so many bands in the 90s championed.

So I don't know if you heard (or care) but my digital music library has been in a bad way for about a month now, and I have been spending a lot of free time cleaning it up and making all pretty like again. In the meantime, I've been relegated to other sources of musical entertainment while the dirty meta tags get sorted from the clean. I've been spending a lot of time on Bandcamp and Rdio, mostly exploring things I seem to have missed or that fall outside of the purview of QBiM, but I'd like to draw your [...]
Welcome back to the second installment of the songs that rocked my world in 2012. A small re-cap for those of you who missed out on yesterday's post: without any fanfare, ranking or listing, I'm giving you the 75 songs, split into five collections of 15 songs each, that soundtracked the year for me. There will be a post a day this week from Monday to Friday (You can click back to Monday's post to get the first part) , and you can collection them all to get a pretty awesome compilation that I think is a good [...]
It's Monday night, and if you're looking for something to jazz up this largely nondescript early December evening, I have the answer. Karaoke! Everyone loves the Karaoke, but who loves leaving the house? As a blogger, and therefore a resident of my Mom's metaphorical basement, I certainly don't. Thankfully, we can all share the joys of Karaoke from our couches thanks to the Dirty Nil and their delightfully ramshackle video for Little Metal Baby Fist . "It features our friends, people we barely know, people we sort of know, and people we still don't know singing karaoke." [...]
The Dirty Nil have released a fun karaoke inspired video for their single "Little Metal Baby Fist". The whole thing is just chaos, and it begs the question as to why haven't they been signed to a label yet . They're on the same level as FIDLAR in my [...]
