The Atlanta-Athens corridor is a two-way musical train-track overload ed with talented cargo. Last month, The District Attorneys , a five-piece, hopped aboard with their full-length debut Slowburner . The DA's, like their new record, embody what makes my beloved South so great—they are simple yet sophisticated, soulful yet rough-hewn. With that subtle sentimentality a la Alex Chilton and Big Star, but with a little more Stones-esque rock 'n' roll get-up and a splash of Yim Yames' psychedelia, I think The District Attorneys are on their way to big things. But for now, Slowburner [...]

When he last checked in on them, The District Attorneys had just kicked out a great cover of Gillian Welch's Wrecking Ball. Now the band is back with their proper full length debut, Slowburner, and they appear to have been studying at the temple of My Morning Jacket. The lead single, "Confusion of Trust," has a 602s flavor to it, complete with swelling background vocals that will undoubtedly be a live favorite. Can I imagine a pack of drunken college kids singing whoa-oh-oh-oh along with the band? Yes, yes I can. They follow that up with "Worry [...]
The District Attorneys bring enthusiasm and an obvious love for great songs to their debut. About four or five songs into Slowburner, you realize that you've yet to hear a bad song. In fact, you've heard nothing but very good songs. What's more, in that short span, no two songs have really sounded the same. Despite Slowburner being the District Attorneys' full-length debut (two earlier EPs are available for free from Bandcamp, and a few of those tracks are tweaked for release here), there's no sense that the Atlanta-based band...

from all the reports i had read re: sxsw, athens boys done good, the district attorneys , made a pretty big splash, or at least they made a nice little wave amongst the festivities attendants. rightfully so, their new record which was just released yesterday via this is american mausic, slowburner , is a record great listen, and can only imagine their live show to be something pretty damn awesome. the record, musically, is kinda hard to pin down. they kinda sound like a southern bred built [...]

The District Attorneys release their album Slowburner this week on This Is American Music , here's the the excellent teaser track Boomtown for your enjoyment. Boomtown by The District Attorneys Homepage

After Coachella's horrendous Tupac hologram ( which now may lead to a faux-Tupac tour!? ) I started getting severely worried about the state of the music industry- and to be honest the state of music in general. Is this really where we are now? Has the ability to capture energy and emotion in unique and raw environment become a lost art? It's sad. But just as I started getting seriously bummed out about it (and trust me I did) a band like The District Attorneys come along. Their EP, Waiting On The Calm Down The Basement [...]

The Tonighters "Photograph" EP A while back I let you all sample the new band The Tonighters . Well, Billy Gilbert and his band got enough interest from this blog, so he decided to pass along a new EP. And yes it's also a FREE download from bandcamp. Seriously the band sounds better than ever - thanks! The District Attorneys "Basement Sessions" EP Here's another hidden gem, Drew Beskin and his band have been prepping a new album, [...]

THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: HAWKS w/ Chumps, So Pastel Sunday, April 15 529 - 529 Flat Shoals Avenue in Atlanta 30316 Admission is FREE Kind of an odd week for Atlanta music. There are quite a few good shows coming up but there's nothing—at least for me—that screams can't-miss event. So this week I'm going to keep things simple and recommend one of my favorite local bands, HAWKS . The bludgeoning noise-rock foursome have one of the most furious and unpredictable live shows going; nobody [...]

Is it me or did March seem to drag on and on? Maybe it was the endless barrage of communiques for SXSW or the parade of bands that used the Austin-based music festival as an excuse to head out on tour, but March just seemed to be stuffed with news, events and happenings for local music. We did our best to cover as much of it as we could, but all month it seemed like things kept falling through the cracks. Which is a little odd considering that weren't all that many ATL records released last month. I [...]

Since March is almost over, I probably should post the Feel Bad For You comp. D'oh! This month it slipped my mind... Download 1. The District Attorneys have their debut LP, Slowburner, coming out in April. Here's a taste to help pass the time. They will be touring this spring and will be showing their faces down in Austin during SxSW. Make sure to check them out. Tweet

wowza! i havent seen too many of the other lineups out there, but me thinks, and of course i am biased, you'd be hard pressed to find a better couple shows to check out while y'all are galavanting around sxsw. so with out further adieu here are the lineups to the two shows. also thanks to the sponsors, listed below, who helped make this possible. most of the bands can be found via this american music , if not their respective websites have been linked to. wednesday's party, btw, has free torchy's tacos! It was just last night (after listening to Circuital ) we made mention of how much we missed old My Morning Jacket . As if it were some sort of call to the heavens, the gods of southern rock must have heard my beckon cry, and responded kindly this morning with The District Attorneys. Hailing from the great state of Georgia, The DA's (as the nickname will surely come about) are a 5 piece southern-psyche rock band heavy on guitars and sweet Americana melodies. Their newest release Waiting on the Calm Down: [...]

These pals of mine from down yonder are making a strong push for recognition outside the Atlanta music scene. With the release of another quality song, "Confusion of Trust," the title track off their forthcoming album, I have a feeling The District Attorneys are to enjoy some viral-buzz sooner rather than later. A refreshing combination of dreamy guitar, roots-rock simplicity, college-rock jangle, and front-porch vibes, this new track has me ready for summertime day-drinking (of course...I'm always ready for that). So if you're headed to SXSW , keep an eye out for these dudes, and look forward to a full [...]

Having generated a nice little bit of excitement from their strong stopgap effort Waiting on the Calm Down: The Basement Sessions , Athens/Atlanta-based quintet the District Attorneys are ready to capitalize on the buzz with their upcoming full-length, Slowburner , due out April 24th via This is American Music . This morning, the band gave fans their first taste of the new material when they premiered the album's lead single "Confusion of Trust." Much like Waiting's excellent opening cut, "California Fire," the new track is a warm, shambling rocker that glides [...]
![AMAZING, CLASSIC SOUNDS FROM THE DISTRICT ATTORNEYS [FREE MP3]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3962812_lg.jpg)
With all the beachy vibes and gauzy reverb flying around these days, it can be difficult for bands to truly differentiate themselves. Luckily, The District Attorneys (@dasnotfound), hailing from Athens, Georgia, stay true to their southern roots, but combine them with sun-drenched tones, amazing vocal harmonies and wailing guitar parts. They actually sound as though they came straight from my parent's classic rock collection - think Allman Brothers meets Surfer Blood with the chill vibes of the Beach Boys . All this combines to form a band who really knows how [...]

2011 was the year I dove headlong into local music. I listened to just about everything I could get a hold of, scouring through Facebook, Bandcamp and Soundcloud in my attempts to discover as many local artists and as much local music as I possibly could. But even now I feel as if there's so much out there that I'm missing out on. New bands and artists seem to to be sprouting up every day and the landscape of Atlanta music is constantly in flux, morphing and shifting into something unique and different. And so while the list [...]
