For the last year it was always interesting to find out on a weekly basis which album Rob O'Connor chose as his 'Essential Irish Album' on his Irish Beats radio show on Beat 102-103 radio show. If I did a similar list I'd have around 20 of the albums below so in all it's a great list of Irish albums. There's an extra special show on Beat tonight from 8pm. Rob will be playing tracks from ALL of the 50 Essential Irish Albums listed below. If you only listen to one [...]

The Dionne Warwick version of this was originally thrown away as a demo of the track. Jerry Butler and The Walker Brothers got to have a run at the charts with it before Dionne was allowed to stick her version out. And then later, much later, Neil Hannon slipped on a lounge suit and did his own Divine Comedy cover. It turned up on a Short Album About Love, but not any version you can get any more. [Buy: A Short Album About Love ] [Part of 24 Hours from David ] -- [...]

As torrential rain hits Ireland I'm listening to the best three Irish songs written about Floods! The Divine Comedy - Here Comes The Flood This song becomes my earworm whenever 'The Floods' hit Ireland! The P Affection - The Flood This was the stand-out track on the debut album from The P Affection. The Swell Season - [...]

So, after the giddy nonsense of SXSW and then returning to the rather intense preparations for the third Meursault album, I managed to write a couple of posts last night, I have a gig on Saturday, and things seem more or less back to normal. In random label news we have now - with the exception of a few copies left with our distributors, so you might be able to request one at your local record shop - sold out of the Rob St. John vinyl, but to balance this the CDs have arrived, and I'll get those [...]

The Fishcast is so called because Dolfinz are here recording for our split 123, and erm, well dolphins aren't fish are they, but umm... well it sounded better than The 'Aquatic mammals which look a bit like fish but aren'tcast. Dolfinz played a pretty big drum kit - three toms, three ride cymbals, a double bass drum pedal, and the result was an absolutely frightening racket which must have been shaking the bloody pictures off the walls next door. We're recording the PAWS songs for the split in about ten days' time, and after that I think we'll [...]
There can't be many songs that would leave you feeling joyful, sad and nostalgic all at once. But the Divine Comedy's At The Indie Disco is definitely one of them, if you happen to be of a certain generation and disposition. Simply devastating.

I bought this tape in the Dalston Oxfam shop some time ago. It was a free compilation tape which came with the May 1996 issue of Select Magazine . It's unique because it has a slightly electro rock version of a Moby track that he did for this compilation only - so you can't find it anywhere else. And it's quite good. There is also a track from Cable which was recorded with John Peel which is only on this tape as well. Unfortunately the sound quality is not [...]
![[Introducing] – O’Messy Life](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3841007_lg.jpg)
Tweet O'Messy Life are an aptly named band. Life can get pretty messy at times, after all. Sometimes the only appropriate response is to throw your hands in the air and say sod it. If there's one thing that stands out about their music, it's that they don't really seem to give a damn - and that's by far the best thing about it. I can see people might take that remark in the wrong spirit, so let me clarify: clearly, [...]

Welcome to the Panic Manual, where one post about hip hop star du jour Taio Cruz leads to one about reality show band N-Dubz which ultimately leads to a post about the king of UK pop - Robbie Williams . Are we an indie blog or an English teen beat? You decide. This post came because I saw the previous post's song title and thought it was a cover of the Robbie Williams song of the same name. Then I thought about how weird it was that his song had such a dynamic [...]
