We all love lists, and we all love sarcasm. Though, I think its important to reflect upon the last year of music, I'm going to do so through the use of a list. It was a fantastic year full of awesome albums, and I'm going to count down a bunch of my favorites, and give you something to listen to while reading. 35. The Elected - Bury Me in My Rings The Elected - Go For The Throat Blake Sennett (Rilo Kiley), made his way back into music with [...]

The Sugarman 3 - Soul Donkey How about that donkey in the nativity? Name me a more famous donkey? Fuck off with your Eddie Murphy and your Shreks - it's that poor bastard who had to lug the suspiciously pregnant 'Virgin' Mary to Bethlehem. Takes more than your standard buck to carry that burden, would taken a donkey with a bit of soul - a Soul Donkey. This one's for you mate.

The Donkeys Born With Stripes Dead Oceans I'm pretty sure that the Donkeys love me, because they all sang so in "I Like the Way You Walk." That's right, all four of them love me with all of their hearts, and they sang it with the same intense sincerity that they put into each second of this surfer indie 70's country-rock album. These guys are pure So-Cal, to the point that if you listen to their music with your eyes closed, you can see tripped-out palm trees and skateboards. If [...]
Winter Family - Searching Donkeys (by winterfamily ) New Winter Family album on the cult Belgium label Sub Rosa , really caught me off guard. Transcendent stuff. "Mournful and melancholic, haunting and ethereal, just check out the opening track, the oddly named "Searching Donkeys", with its thick layered minor key organ, the sound rich and lustrous, Rosenthal's vocals settled down in the mix, her mysterious intonations peppered with brief bits of proper singing, lush little bits of harmonized vocalizing, the sound almost chorale, perfectly matching the ever intensifying music, the vibe [...]

Last appearing almost a year ago , Dennis Jr has a new album - Elektro Donkey - out now on Norway's Beatservice Records. Although mainly operating in nu-disco, much of the album is polite jazz-funk house hell. But the title track is a different proposition. This dances to a completely different beat. Slow and gyrating with bells. And bells are never bad. The promo says " an addictive slow-motion groover filled with bold, bell-like melodies, pulsating synth pads, and hand-clap rhythms " which is pretty much spot on.

I entered the studio at about 9:35pm, meeting up with Stuarto, who has the time slot before mine. A quick interview about 15 minutes before my show, another few songs, and I was up. It was requested that I attempt a transition, and as indie music is my theme, and world music is his, I figured I'd kick things off with an oldie, but goodie: "The Gulag Orkestar" by Beirut. The theme of the evening, loosely, centered around folk. Indie folk, folk pop, folk rock, orchestral folk, experimental folk... [...]

This one stays pretty steady throughout but has something that draws you in - a nice breezy tune for the end of summer.

Hang in there through the slow start--things get better, fast It's a shame the two lead tracks from the Donkeys' debut, Born With Stripes, are kind of, well -- just there. There's nothing especially wrong with "Don't Know Who We Are" or "I Like the Way You Walk", but there is little memorable about them either. With their simple guitar lines and deliberately artless vocals, the two songs sound similar to a thousand other alt-rock tunes of the past decades. Not until a sinister sashaying...

And so that you are able to hear them, here are a stream of "I Like the Way You Walk" and their video for "Don't Know Who We Are," both from their latest LP Born With Stripes .
