En esta ocasión la canción es "Left Behind" , la cual viene acompañada de un vídeo que al menos a mí me recuerda muchísimo a los años 80 y que fue dirigido, escrito, producido, coreografiado y actuado por Renata Abbade . i'm really digging this little laid-back new track from the donkeys , which believe it or not, sounds a bit tighter than those loose, lazy numbers off their equally impressive self-titled 2006 debut...look for the forthcoming album, living on the other side , to drop september 9th. download: the donkeys - walk through a cloud download: the donkeys - come on virginia (s/t) download: the [...]
If you're looking for a weather update for the Los Angeles area, let me give it to you: It's midnight, I've got both windows open, and I'm still sweating like Ruben Studdard in a tuxedo. Yeah, it's that hot. On the other hand, if weather isn't your thing, and you're simply looking for some top quality summer music, look no further than the Donkey's newest mp3 'Walk Through a Cloud'. The drummer's easy, steady snare-drummy thingies, the playfully plucked guitar strings, and the laid back vocal harmonies all remind me of the Eagles or [...]

Dead Oceans will be releasing the second Donkey's full length, Living on the Other Side on September 9th. Escape the deluge of potential malaise and hit the road with the scenic driving sounds of the Donkeys, lit by lightly fried licks and smooth melting sounds as seen in perfect light on "Walk Through A Cloud," featured below. media: walk through a cloud.mp3 the donkeys daytrotter session live: 07/13/2008 San Diego, CA [...]

The Donkeys , who released one of my favorite records of 2006 *, have signed with Secretly Canadian/Jagjaguwar's red-headed stepchild, Dead Oceans . We can expect the Donkey's new slab of laid-back West Coast pop, Living On The Other Side , on September 9th. ::: The Donkeys - Walk Through A Cloud ::: (*Let me put it this way: how many "Favorite Albums Of The Year" do most sites pick? Fifty? A Hundred? I chose *FOUR* in 2006.)

The Donkeys debut last year for Antenna Farm was one of my top albums of the year. They're back with a limited edition split 7" ep with Casiotone For The Painfully Alone on Antenna Farm Records. This rough, demo-quality track captures the band's raw, 60's-70's rock rivival sound in a way that the debut record only hinted at. Here's "Seventh Heaven" from this record. Purchase the 7" from Antenna Farm here now. Seventh Heaven MP3 , Music
After a hazy, hot, humid and stormy week, the skies are set to clear up and the weekend forecast is gorgeous. Celebrate with a great Friday night out. Baltimore has it going on tonight. Start out early with the continuation of the free Friday concert series at Walter's Art Museum . Tonight they have one of their best shows yet. Local favorites Two if by Sea will be taking the stage and apparently there is a visual accompaniment. Two if by Sea - High [...]

Firstly, I would suffer a million awkward and uncomfortable shows with the house lights on and excessive eye contact for just this one song: Dub Narcotic Sound System - Fuck Shit up Julie Doiron is a beacon of light in the dirty despicable world. Allen shines pretty brightly too. Her current tour features guys from Shotgun and Jaybird , The Constantines and Woolly Leaves . It was more than enough to make me nostalgic for the epic summer of 2002: [...]

Today's edition of Easy Rockin Sunday begins with Louisiana singer-songwriter Dan Reeder and his ode to suds, I Drink Beer. Off of his latest, Sweetheart, which came out this past September, it's a sweet little strummer of a song. How can you not like a song with a line like "I drink beer to improve my mind/end the war/help mankind." Dan Reeder - I Drink Beer.mp3 I came across the Trainwreck Riders quite accidentally the other night. [...]
I'm jumpin' the gun on this release by Sarah White and the Pearls. It's due out sometime this fall on Antenna Farm Records (home of The Donkeys, Still Flyin') and these songs will be on it but maybe in a slightly different form. Why should you care? Well Sarah had two releases out on Jagjaguwar, she grew up in Virginia absorbing everything from mountain music to punk, and she's been playing

Mmm. Southern California. The sun shines, the girls wear skirts, and even more importantly - the music resounding from the region these days is just as good as the the weather. At least this is the case for the new indie bands emerging out of San Diego. As I spent hours upon hours sifting through blogs and bands during my summer in Colorado, I was delighted to find out that two of my favorite finds of the summer hailed from San Diego (Joe and I's new home for the school year). So, um, here [...]
"Prayer of Death" by freak folk/psychedelic/blues artist Entrance (Guy Blakeslee) is the title track off of his latest album. It's said to be based on The Tibetan Book of The Dead. "Prayer of Death" is a sparse and haunting ballad about confronting death in a positive manner. Entrance - Prayer of Death.mp3 Next up, I have The Donkeys , a San Diego based band, with a sweet little mid tempo rocker, "In The Morning." [...]

In the last few weeks I've written about Neal Casal and The Donkeys (here and here ). Their music is not that different even though decades seperate their ages, their labels are on either sides of the ocean and they are at vastly different stages in their careers. I think they both share a sort of California sound with equal parts Beach Boys, Gram Parsons and ... Neal Casal's record, No Wish To Reminisce , is out on the French label Fargo . As I said in my previous [...]
