Michael McDonald – I Keep Forgettin (Joshua P Extended Mix)

Michael McDonald – I Keep Forgettin (Joshua P Extended Mix) By request, here is a throwback for all you 702s & 802s babies, called "I Keep Forgettin" , by Michael McDonald . For all you 902s babies... Michael McDonald is a five-time Grammy Award winning American singer and songwriter. McDonald is known for a soulful baritone singing style and a multi-octave range. He got his start by singing backup for Steely Dan in the mid seventies. He then went on to be a part of The Doobie Brothers , and it doesn't take much imagination to conceive what that group of guys [...]

Top 10 Rock Hits Of 1975

In 1975, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest was the Best Picture, Saturday Night Live debuted with George Carlin as its host and the Golden State Warriors beat the Washington Bullets for the NBA championship. On the charts, there were a few one hit wonders and some enduring classics. Here are the Top 10 Rock Songs of 1975.

My Favorite Song From “The Captain And Me”

The Captain And Me - The Doobie Brothers
My favorite song from The Captain And Me is... ..."The Captain & Me" 1. It opens with a classic Doobs acoustic guitar pattern. 2. Tiran Porter, one of the most underrated bass players in rock and roll history, drops right into the pocket. 3. They switch from a laid back Northern California groove to a country two-step and back with unequaled style. 4. At 3:11 they kick into a jam that's great anytime but best heard in a fast with wide open [...]

‘A big event in my life’: Doobie Brothers’ Tom Johnston recalls titanic James Brown show

The Doobie Brothers - "Nobody" (Official Video)
Tom Johnston, longtime frontman of the Doobie Brothers, traces his inspirations past other 1970s rock titans - all the way back to Little Richard, blues legends like Albert, Freddie and B.B. King and, especially, James Brown. Johnston and Co. are toward the end of a summer tour with Chicago, a series of shows that kicked off in July at Tuscon, [...]

Fresh Edits of The Doobie Brothers and Gil Scott-Heron

Doobie Brothers - What a fool believes - 1979
If there's anything to be learned from this so-very-choice re-edit of The Doobie Brothers' 'What a Fool Believes' it's that there's no shame in expressing your love for Michael McDonald. Embrace it. Also, this is one hell of an edit of 'The Bottle'.

Groove Armada's Tom Findlay Tells His Late Night Tale on 'Music for Pleasure'

Music for Pleasure. The name says it all. In some respects, however, Music for Guilty Pleasure may have been a more accurate title for the latest instalment in the Late Night Tales compilation series. Compiled by Groove Armada’s Tom Findlay, the album dives gloriously, unashamedly into “blue-eyed soul,” as Findlay calls it. “The kind of [...]

Drowned: Living in the Land of Vice

Drowned: Living in the Land of Vice Jeremy D. Larson does the best Michael McDonald impersonation that I've ever seen. It's low-toned, muffled, and sounds like a decade's old Trans-Am chugging around San Francisco's concrete slopes on a rainy day. The only person that comes even close is the McDonald himself in one of his über-ironic self parodies . Granted, anyone can channel McDonald's funky baritone, and it's an entertaining voice to dabble with, but Larson's is a cut above the rest ( ed.  he's being very kind ) . For some reason, I think about this every time I hear The Doobie Brothers' [...]

In Memoriam – March 2012

In Memoriam – March 2012 The Grim Reaper took it relatively easy this month. The headline deaths were those of bluegrass legend Earl Scruggs and Robert B Sherman, who with his brother wrote Disney standards for films such as 101 Dalmations , The Jungle Book and Mary Poppins . The idea for Let's Go Fly A Kite, from Mary Poppins , apparently was inspired by the Sherman brothers' father, Al Sherman, who was a songwriter and hobby kitemaker. But perhaps the most interesting lifestory to reach its end in March was that of Australian musician and AIDS activist [...]
