First, Jay-Z and Beyonce turn up at the four-piece's Brooklyn waterfront concert over the weekend, and when we say turn up we mean the couple actually headbanged to the music. Today finds former Steely Dan and Doobie Brothers band member Michael McDonald extending his gruff howl on 'Veckatimest''s most pop-friendly track. [...]

It´s been making the rounds to nothing but amazing acclaim, so we want you to have it as well. A typical influences mix it would be if it hadn´t turned out so well. DJs like Breakbot are the reasons why I love music; they respect the musical heritage and implement that influence into their productions. What follows is the mix plus certain songs from the mix I´ve grown up with: Breakbot Heroes Mix - In New DJs We Trust [...]
Art Garfunkel Break AwayDiscovering non-canonical yacht rock songs is one of the true and distinct pleasures of searching for music. While it's always interesting to re-discover the familiar songs of the Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, and the rest of the giants of the 70's soft rock pantheon, it's a far rarer and more delightful treat to come across a song that, given my age, has passed me by or

1974 Warner Bros. WS4-2750 HappyParts was happy to see Warner Bros./Reprise continue in its tradition of ushering quality West Coast sounds - having signed Devendra Banhart for his next release. The Warner Bros. family of labels has been behind some amazing California music - radio essentials like Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt, Doors, Joni Mitchell and more. It's only fitting that Devendra release his most pop accessible recordings to date, on a label that can take him there. Richy's gonna kill me - but HappyParts has always been smitten by this classic [...]

What an amazing show this was!! I havent listened to The Doobie Brothers or The Allman Brothers extensively, but was very impressed by both of their performances. The Doobies took the stage around 7 PM. The Greek was near empty. I was shocked by the lack of people in attendance. By the end of their set, the place began to fill up, and people started rocking out. By the time The Allman Brothers went on, the Greek was bumping. I honestly had no idea what to expect. They jammed the night away and brought a trippy [...]

[Happy birthday to Jason LaRocca of the local punk outfit the Briggs . Here's where to rock out tonight:] Busy, busy night, from the big spaces to the big rooms and on down. That highly anticipated Nine Inch Nails / Jane's Addiction tour hits the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, and also under the evening skies is the second night of the Allman / Doobie brothers at the Greek Theatre. ... My favorites for the evening: M83 and James Yuill visit the Glass [...]

Some great reasons to get out of the house tonight: The big shows have the Decemberists (supported by very talented Oklahomans Other Lives ) at the Palladium, and a lot of people my age heading to see the brother acts — the Allmans and the Doobies — at the Greek Theatre. ... Ex-rapper Hesta Prynn (Northern State), who's reinvented herself as a pretty nifty pop songstress, plays the Silverlake Lounge along with Rachel Cantu , and others. ... Australia's Youth Group visits the Troubadour with support from [...]

Bad Company , aka England's favorite super group to feature Paul Rodgers - after all, can Queen + Paul Rodgers really be considered? - will soon get back on the horse for yet another one of those things we've come to know and love as a reunion. The English outfit, which first formed in 1973 and grew prominent throughout that decade that followed will reunite later this summer, the first time since, well, last year, when Rodgers and Co. gathered for a one-off show much in celebration of Nelson Mandela's 90th Birthday. But this time around, the surviving [...]
MUSIC NEWS - From the Feel Like Making [Music] file - After a successful one-night-only reunion concert last year, the members of ’70s supergroup BAD COMPANY have decided to give it a go, for a summer 2009 tour. The press release says that the band’s founders; singer Paul Rodgers, guitarist Mick Ralphs and drummer Simon Kirke (bassist Boz Burrell died back in 2006), have all agreed to participate in the ten show tour that start on June 17th in Hollywood, FL and wraps up on July 4th in Atlantic City, NJ. The perennial summer tourers, The Doobie Brothers will be on the [...]

Well, we've been toying with the idea since July 2007, and today we finally have done it: we're launching with our English colleague Luke Cotton a new outlet called KeepingSomeDarkSecrets.com , the international Johnny Foreigner fan site. In retrospect we're glad we didn't call it "A+ No. 1 Super Fun Time Johnny Foreigner Fan Club USA Blog," as we had originally joked two years ago. KSDS, as we've already taken to abbreviating it, will provide all the microscopic Johnny Foreigner coverage you've come to expect here, but it will be better: Mr. Cotton [...]

There are some real Val Kilmer-style geniuses out there on the Google and the YouTubes, and mrzarquon is one of them. This dude took the David Lee Roth a capella version of "Runnin' With The Devil" and ran it through Microsoft's super-goofy-looking new program Songsmith , an experimental endeavor that takes your execrable singing and follows along, gussying it up with sub- Mario Paint backing tracks for musical magic. Songsmith placed Diamond Dave's vocals slightly off from the me-on-my-Casio-in-1985 background, creating a syncopated feel that gives it [...]

The Doobie Brothers performed their 1973 rock-radio staple "Long Train Runnin'" on last night's Orange Bowl, and they actually sounded pretty good in the face of generally crappy live-TV presentations of music and what seemed to be a gigantic wind machine (or maybe it was just the crazy Florida weather?). I will confess to you all that while I'm quite familiar with "Train," I actually never knew what it was called until performing the YouTube searches on this halftime show, which briefly shot the band back into the Internet's consciousness last night . Thanks, classic rock stations that don't [...]
There are countless acts that have earned a status as a one-hit wonder, notching a single song that reached the Top 40 before fading into obscurity. The West Coast pop/rock band Sneaker was one of them, albeit one with some high-profile accomplices. Rumored to have been inspired to take their name from the Steely Dan song Bad Sneakers , Sneaker's self-titled debut album was produced by one-time Steely Dan and Doobie Brother guitarist Jeff "Skunk" Baxter. The album also featured contributions by notable '80s producer/songwriter David Foster (who would find great success during that time with another [...]
