We are pleased to welcome DRAM (dramonline.org), an essential scholarly resource for experimental music, to the Free Music Archive! From DRAM's FMA Curator Portal : DRAM (originally the Database of Recorded American Music), is a non-profit source for institutional research of contemporary and historical composed and improvised music. The database grew out of the original Anthology of Recorded Music project which, in 1976, released a set of 100 LPs of American music to libraries all over America in celebration of the U.S. Bicentennial. Slobberbone was a band with a body of rock, tires of country, and engine of punk. Another great band, The Drams had a similar body and tires, but its engine ran a bit more on pop. The driver in both of these two bands? Singer/guitarist Brent Best. Slobberbone reunited for shows in 2009 and proclaimed a new record to come out in 2010. I haven't seen any updated news on The Drams in awhile (sadly). But it seems Best is cleaning out the closets and wiping the slates clean, proverbially speaking, before gearing [...]

Ronnie Fauss has been kind enough to let me have a review copy of his EP "New Song for the Old Frontier, Volume 1" one listen got me looking forward to Volume 2. The collection of six songs totals a little over 22 minutes and runs through a gamut of emotions, showcasing Ronnie's talent, the lyrics are strong and thoughtful, the vocal has that whiskey soaked edge of authenticity, Made in Texas. The opening track "The [...]

Is Brian Lane back in town for an impromptu Slobberbone reunion? 6' 7" Slobberbone bassist Brian Lane was sighted last weekend taking in an American Werewolf Academy show at the Barley House. Kind of hard to miss him, really. And while it's not surprising that the current Florida resident would come back to visit his old haunts, it is a little strange considering the event featured on the Dan's Silverleaf calendar for this evening— a concert by the band Whiskey Glass Eye . DAY 2 So Day 2 started out a bit of a clusterfuck. I only had until 3 pm to catch anyone at day parties because we had passes to the invite-only New West Records party, and it seemed either the schedules were posted wrong or bands weren't being timely. Three bands I'd wanted to see via their mp3s, Born in the Flood, Driving By Night, and Delorentos, I wound up missing because of stuff like
the Drams Jubilee Dive (New West Records) When Brent Best's seminal alt-country band Slobberbone finally called it quits in early 2005, it was after six mostly-terrific albums (the last two of which also came out on New West) dating back to 1994 and enough days spent on tour to make even a notorious road-hoggin' band like Lucero nod with respect. It was also much to the dismay of their modest, but extremely loyal (borderlining on rabid) fan base scattered across the U.S. and Europe. Perhaps due in part to their quirky name [...]
