The greatest thing about having this space is that the only deadlines are those I place on myself. That said, I am constantly wavering between the desire to do longer, more thoughtful pieces which take a whole lot of time and result in fewer posts or, doing those, yet augmenting the place with shorter, more immediate daily updates. I'm leaning heavily, though, toward the former. Although I flatter myself thinking that there are regular readers that stop by here I have no idea if that's true or not. All I know is that I don't want 24HourPartyPooper to be another [...]

Bobb Trimble (1982) Harvest of Dreams There is nobody quite like Bobb Trimble in the world of rock n roll. Many more famous and wealthier musicians ( Thurston Moore is one I can think of) have praised his unique body of work. Trimble released two great underappreciated records in the early 80's (private press - real lo-fi). His vision is very deep, personal, and absolutely original with a strong outsider, late night feel (think brooding dark mind trips). His vocals are like [...]

It Just Goes to Show How Wrong You Can Be The Dream Syndicate were a funny mix of deadpan Velvets diy simplicity and country-tinged psychedelic blues. Five points to anyone besides Thom Campbell for the source of the "The Days of Wine and Roses" (and no it's not simply the title of the great Jack Lemmon/Lee Remick movie.) Like their contemporaries The Gun Club, X, and Fear, The Dream Syndicate made a desperate and blistering contrast to the reigning blasé commercial peaceful easy feeling of bands like the Eagles. [...]
You know, when Bush leaves office, no later than January 2009, he’ll only be 63 years old. He’s still in pretty good health, has a lot of energy, and is pretty physically fit. I think there’s an obvious choice for his career path after his term ends â€" movie star. He might be limited as to where he could go on location if any war crimes indictments get handed down, but that wouldn’t be much of a problem, since I’d imagine he wouldn’t want to visit most of those dirty, rat-infested foreign lands ever again anyway.
