On August 4, 2009, Ramseur Records will release 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' by The Duke & The King , an album recorded in the the coldest Catskill winter, that shimmers with the light of memory and hope. 'Nothing Gold Can Stay' features ten new songs, all co-written by The Duke ( Simone Felice of The Felice Brothers ) and The King ( Robert Chicken Burke ), and was recorded on a two-inch tape machine in Burke's one-room, woodstove-heated cabin - affectionately known as The Chapel - in Woodstock, NY. Hello there, For those of you who may have been wondering where in the hell I, your wonderful editor Andrew Daniels, have been around these parts as of late, I apologize. I've been 9-to-5-ing it as an entertainment reporter at The Morning Call in Allentown, PA, and the job hardly leaves me any time for Stark. Fortunately, the blog is left in the great hands of my two fellow editors who are smarter than me for figuring out how to juggle two things at once. Time management! Anyway, the only [...]

Described by one critic as a "lush mix of dreamy Topanga ballads, country soul and gospel", the debut album from errant Felice Brother Simone Felice with Robert "Chicken" Burke -- Nothing Gold Can Stay, set for September 4 release -- is a decidedly low-keyed but invigorating, self-described "soundtrack to a fateful winter.". In the midst of writing and recording tracks with Burke and planning for the birth of his daughter, Felice was devastated by the sudden miscarriage of his expected [...]

I believe The Duke And The King may have ruined concert going for me. Where do I go next? How do you top the thrill of seeing a band bursting at the seams with creative sparks and a kinship with the audience that bordered on familial (you know, familial as it pertains to the parts of the family you still speak to)? How do you react as decades old friends and minutes old friends get swept up as one and are smiling, singing, clapping and stomping along with the unbridled enthusiasm that only the young-at-heart can muster? How [...]

Awww Yea-uh! Back again with a handful of tunes I've been diggin' on lately. You know the drill: listen... enjoy... buy. Wilco - Jolly Banker A couple weeks ago, Wilco made this Woody Guthrie cover tune available for download on their site. It's another example of music completely transcending time and history - the satirical song that was penned back in the dust bowl days as a slight to the fat-pocketed bankers rings just as true today. Nice choice Jeff. In related news, Wilco has announced [...]

There's a classic joke that goes something like: Q: What's the last thing the drummer said before he was kicked out of the band? A: Hey, wanna do one of my songs? Well, Simone Felice has left The Felice Brothers and that's no joke. Oh the brothers will soldier on without him and their recent shows still explode in controlled , loose limbed chaos. But Simone was no ordinary drummer - he wrote lyrics, sang lead in his sweet choirboy voice and brought a sense of imminent danger and desperation to their frantic stage [...]

At SxSW, I spoke to James Felice briefly and asked why Simone (the drummer Felice Brother that sounds like Cat Stevens) was absent from the band. He said something about him not being able to make the trip and then we moved on to some other topic, like how great ice cold beer tastes. I know we've got some Felice Brothers fans out there, so this may be old news to you. I just read it the other day and thought I'd share. Here's the news, as written by Simone Felice in an open letter: [...]

I suppose a drummer announcing he's leaving a band is a common and rather mundane thing. But if at the same time that drummer announces his new project and it's as promising as The Duke & The King it's cause to celebrate. Simon Felice of the Felice Bothers just released this news: Dear Friends and Family, this is just a little note to show my deepest gratitude for all the letters and concern I've received over my absence from The Felice Brothers stage over the past few months, and for the boundless love [...]
