Let's get the name-drop out of the way first: The Dying Seconds have already been the subject of some high praise from The National's Aaron Dressner, despite their relative infancy as a band. Tthis may be their second album but it's their first as an expanded six-piece line-up; the self-titled debut being the work of core duo David Cantan and Jack Quilligan. Glimmerers showcases a sound that retains their interest in evocative, low-key electronics but combines those aspects with a more widescreen dynamic and dramatic approach. It's maybe a little too easy to make [...]
It's not often that an artist of the standing of The National's Aaron Dresner hails upcoming Irish talent as "the ferocious coming out of a great new band", but it was the Dying Seconds who moved him to such eloquence. Evolving from the duo of David Cantan and Jack Quilligan, the Dubliners now number six members and are making music that employs those extra hands to maximum effect. Their second record Glimmerers is an album of ambition and scope, influenced by the likes of Efterklang, Bat for Lashes and, surprise surprise, The National. The band launch [...]

Not much music makes me tear up but then I listen to a lot of the stuff so can on most days be seen weeping gently to myself. Today's droplets are as a result of our very own Dying Seconds (Dave Cantan and a few others) who as well as making the best electronic music in the land also feel the need to give it away for free. Noble gesture or just a grand plan to rope us in and then extract lorry loads of dosh when the next Dying Seconds opus is unfurled, who knows. 'Goodnight Satelight' is a [...]
