As I began to write this I was informed that today is in fact the one year anniversary of Dundonian 5-piece We Were Poseidon , and during this period they have written and released their début EP Turn Back the Clocks and undergone a Scottish mini-tour to celebrate and promote this release. Although to look at them one could have them confused with the X-factor's One Direction , but the problems begin with the lack of "there is an Irish one, there's the one that's shagging that old woman, shit what's her [...]

Glasgow has had The Sauchiehall Crawl , Hinterland and Stag & Dagger in the past couple of years - now it's time for Edinburgh to get in on the act of hosting a multi-venue music festival. The inaugural HADDOW FEST will be held on Sunday, March 28 at various locations throughout the capital including The Bongo Club (450 capacity) , Electric Circus (250) , Cabaret Voltaire (250) , Sneaky Pete's (100) , The GRV (250) , Maggie's Chambers [...]

Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky? Since it's a special day, instead of your usual 3 to 5 songs in the List Addicts list, it's going to be a baker's dozen. Also to celebrate a novel opening that I made that won $20 this week (woohoo! twenty bucks!) - the random songs that I'm serving up will presumably, be songs that can inspire you to write and make that work of art that you've been waiting all your life to finish. Songs are the perfect inspiration. They create the mood, and are great soundtracks for [...]

There are several tell-tale signs that summer has ended: You start wondering how you were ever able to leave the house without a jacket, making a Christmas wishlist doesn't seem like a completely unreasonable exercise, and we reach the end of The Pop Cop's guide to Scotland's music festivals. Hopefully we've helped persuade you to fill your nostrils with that invigorating outdoor smell at least once this year. The last big event of 2009 sees the award for the best-named festival in Scotland go to... LOOPALLU . [...]

I'd heard friends rave about the Dykeenies befor, but had never really listened to them before until today. With a bit of time on my hands, I checked them out this afternoon and was mightily impressed. They're a five-pronged sensory assault of sex, synths and glamour with hooks so monumental they could be used to mount the scalps of lesser peers onto their living room wall. Yes, really that good. Pop punk at it's best, really catchy, feelgood and enjoyable. Aaaand to top it all off they're on tour in [...]

And the award for the poor man's T in the Park goes to... What's it called? Live At Loch Lomond . Where's it at? Balloch Castle Country Park, Balloch. When's it kicking off? August 2-3. Who are the headliners? Groove Armada, Sex Pistols. And the flatliners? Pete Doherty. [...]
Here is my fantasy SXSW schedule for this Thursday, March 13, which didn't get quite so crowded as Wednesday's schedule. I would probably try to spend the afternoon at the Clermont Team 's party. They have turned me on to a lot of good music in the past year. I saw the Helio Sequence recently, and that was a good show; and I'd love to see Elf Power and hear songs from their new album which will be released this year. I have two of the Scottish bands , the Dykeenies [...]

This is the fifth year that The Scottish Arts Council in conjunction with BBC Radio Scotland has sponsored Scottish bands to attend South By Southwest in Austin, TX. Their support has brought a total of over 50 bands (16 were sponsored for SXSW 2007 ), including Franz Ferdinand, Paolo Nutini, the Delgados, Emma Pollock, and the Fratellis, to the attention of rock music lovers in the U.S. I admit to being a total sucker for a Scots accent. Here are four of the Scottish bands, all from the vicinity of [...]

It's been a good week here at Hyperbole HQ (i.e. my bedroom), that Kanye album is really excellent (hence the Graduation themed post titles of late), I went down to Wagga with my lass, and the return of the blog seems to have gone down rather swimmingly, so thank you all for welcoming me back to the fold with open arms. There's plenty more to come, so stick with us, it ain't going to dissapoint. Now, let's move onto this week's Remix Fix , where you'll find a host of treats for the [...]
