Some self-styled Krautgaze to get your rocks off too today. The Early Years return with a new EP on Sonic Cathedral entitled 'Memory Case', lead track 'Complicity' is, in the words of my associate Garry Johnstokes, like Secret Machines jamming with Underworld & The Chems on really good E's. The Early Years - The Simple Solution (2006)
The Early Years proves that ELO were much more than just a singles band with a fancy stage show. Electric Light Orchestra - DVD - Early Years - Arts and Entertainment - Music

Stock images make me lol. They never, in any way, reflect how life really works. For example, you don't smile when you're moving. Carrying boxes is in no way a joyful experience. Maybe these folks are just happy and pumped on bro's new eyebrow piercing. I dunno. Stock images. Anyway... yes, we too will be enjoying the splendor and fun of moving over the next few days, just like those kids above. L-Train and I are staying in Louisville, of course, and Bloggins Base Camp will remain in The Highlands. While a simple half-mile move south down Bardstown [...]

Geniet samen met Michael Mayer van een stukje electronische muziekgeschiedenis en download deze exclusieve mix hieronder. doves.net Consistency is no great fault, particularly when the standard that one rarely fails to meet is as high as it is for Britain's Doves . For nearly a decade, since their 2000 debut Lost Souls , the trio has turned out an album of classic-sounding, widescreen, melancholic space-rock every few years, each of which manages to expand and build on that which came before to some degree, but never coming up with the watershed record, the game-changer, the quantum leap forward. Some might argue that Lost Souls was that record, one [...]

It's baaack. Such is life this time of year in the Midwest. It warms up for a few days, the snow melts, and then it all comes back again. Unfortunately, there isn't much of anything on TV, I've already watched the movies I got from Netfilx. So I'm relying on my trusty iPod once again. And then I realized I haven't been keeping up with the abc's . Let part 5 begin. Things by The Early Years from The Early Years The Killing Moon by Echo & the Bunnymen from [...]

With all this talk about Krautrock, it seems appropriate to revisit one of the most under-rated bands of the last couple of years - The Early Years . Their self-titled debut album from 2006 was criminally ignored by almost everyone (myself included) when it came to the end-of-year best ofs. The album was good, but that's not my concern here. It's actually one of the band's lesser-known tunes, tucked away on a b-side, but in my opinion their finest hour. This is where they show off their true Krautrock credentials. More than that, the track I [...]

From the age of ten, until my mid twenties (and this must be true for most of you out there too) was the most enlightening musically for an impressionable lad. Looking back now is a privelige that rests easily on older shoulders despite the trials and memories of a former time, when everything required effort, dedication, and single-mindedness on a scale, thankfully, rarely required since. The small black discs appeared like a bountiful treasure (much to the annoyance of plural parents) and were collected with vigour, stashed carefully, and only withdrawn from their pristine sleeves when a musical discovery was [...]
This morning I jumped out of bed more enthusiastically than I have ever faced a Monday before. Well, maybe I didn't exactly jump out of bed, but I was still up early and I'm still pretty damn excited. Last week I ordered a brand new laptop and I missed the delivery on Friday, so UPS has been holding my new baby hostage all weekend long. This morning before work I'm going to pick it up. :) A new computer is ALWAYS exciting, but this is particularly exciting for me since I've been [...]

The first time I heard The Early Years I was walking home from the train. It was late August, one of those sticky humid days, and my headphones were blasting away on shuffle. I was thinking about stopping at the Dunkin' Donuts so I could buy a tasty tropical smoothie. It had been a long day, and I deserved a treat to cool down my blood. Is it really a smoothie if they fill the cup with canned fruit and heavy syrup? Yeah, but sugary artificial flavors taste good. Then, I thought, "Damn, this song is kicking my [...]

The Early Years is a London-based trio founded in 2004 whose declared vision is to create washes of psychedelic guitar noises meshed in with feedback, drones, distortion and wah set against a strong metronomic beat. The Early Years admire the noises of (and have occasionally had their sound likened to) Mogwai, Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., Spiritiualized, Sonic Boom, Neu!, Can, Tortoise, 33.3, Isotope 217, Jeff Parker, Stars of the Lid, The Teardrop Explodes and general 60's garage music and psychedelia. If you dig these guys, I'd recommend that you also check out the band [...]

First up, a public announcement. To anyone in Chicago, Portland, LA or Berkley who are going to see Arcade Fire this month. You have to get down to the gig early and see Electrelane ! Honestly, you'll thank me that you did. If Wednesday night's Scala gig is anything to go by, you'll be in for one hell of a warm-up. Last time I saw them , also supporting Arcade Fire in March, they were a bit tentative. It was a good, short set, but I felt that there was something lacking. Two evenings ago [...]

It's the first of March. Saint David's Day for those unaware of all things Welsh. Anyway, time to cast my mind back over what I was liking in February. Album of the Month Alasdair Roberts – The Amber Gatherers No contest here. I waxed lyrical about it last week . But there hasn't been an album in ages that I've listened to so consistently and still loved it. I can't recommend this highly [...]
I hadn't been to a gig for three weeks, so it was a welcome return as I went up the steps at the Luminare on Monday night. I've seen The Early Years a couple of times before, but this was the first in a headline slot. Pleasingly, things seem to be gradually looking up for this annoyingly under-rated band. They're doing a short tour to promote their new EP, The Great Awakening . But before I get to them though, I'll deal with the support act – Wolf and Cub , all [...]
The Early Years have a new EP, The Great Awakening , due out on Feb 19th. Beggars Banquet was nice enough to offer up some free tracks and videos on their site, for your pleasure. I saw The Early Years a few weeks ago at Union Pool & was completely BLOWN AWAY. They were loud as hell & just awesome. I swear they are the new Ride & I love Ride! So I bought their CD at the show (it's excellent) & here are two that I particularly enjoy from it... The Early Years -- So Far Gone The Early Years -- The Simple Solution [...]

In the spirit of valentines day, me and Brent decided to put together a couple mixes to serve as a soundtrack to everyone's favorite Hallmark Holiday. Quite simply, my mix is Pro-Love, while Brent's is Anti-Love. Depending on your mood/situation either of these mixes can help make tomorrow a bit easier to digest. Feel free to intermingle the mixes as this is usually how ones life goes anyways: fawning over someone --> giddy with love --> heartbroken --> jealous --> yearning for love again (repeat). You can either download each song individually in MP3 format, or each mix [...]
