But if you're not into the insanity of our annual punk-a-thon, look no further than T-Bone at Quenchers, Great Society Mind Destroyers at the Viaduct and a few more fests we think you'd enjoy immensely. You don't want to find hell with me, mother. So let's get to it. [...]

WHOOO! WEEKEND! HELL YEAH! Anyway, there's just WAYYYY too much going on this weekend for me to jabber on about right now. Let's just dive in, shall we? Hi dilly Ho dilly, neighboreenos! It's July 4th weekend and while this is the time of year we celebrate America by blowing up a small part of it, we thought you might like an excuse to flee your extended families and rock out for five hours or so. Let's get to it, eh? (It's Canada Day today, after all) FRIDAY THE CATHY SANTONIES [...]

"Take Five" focuses on Chicago's ever-growing music scene by giving you insight to the city's best local acts via the best source possible: the artists themselves. Here is the latest installment featuring Earth Program. We've been long time fans of the sci-fi laden, joyous Flaming Lips-esque indie rock of Earth Program (check out our review of their debut LP Invade ). But as we've discussed before , one of the most intriguing things about the band is their wholly DIY approach to just about everything [...]

BLOODIEST | Photograph by Saverio Truglia Summer is in full swing and there are plenty of outdoor activities to satisfy your musical lust including two chances to picnic outside the Logan Square Monument and watch some sexy local rock provided by the likes of Rabble Rabble or Califone and Bloodiest . As if that could be enough, adrenaline-pumping indie rockers Les Savy Fav are in town. There's so much rock, we'll have to start a new pile. Let's get to it, shall we? [...]
Who knew kids loved danceable psych-rock? Well, as we discovered after watching three members of Chicago's The Earth Program dance and hop around with the kiddies on a recent episode of Chic-A-Go-Go , the kids love it. A lot. Check out those young rock'n'rollers as they pick up Mr. Bibbles and singer Christopher Mondo's guitars and jam out all by themselves. You go, young rockers! And if you want to dance along to the Earth Program, check them out tonight at Memories Bar , 4358 N. Cicero Ave., with Team Band, UME [...]

When you get to be my age (late twenties a.k.a. old timer), one of the best things about Halloween are the ridiculous shows in which a band 'becomes' another band for the night. This year was no different as there were countless cover shows around the city. Well, Chicago art-rockers, The Earth Program , did just that on Halloween night last year at the Darkroom when they 'became' Joy Division and played a set that was precise in it's sound, you had to do a double take to make sure it wasn't the post-punk legends. [...]

Sebadoh It may be April Fool's, but I pity tha fool who stays home this weekend. See what I did there? Chicago is ALIVE with the sound of music. (OK I'll stop) There's a bevy of big name acts passing through our fair (and rainy) city like Queens of the Stone Age at The Rivieria tonight or the reunited Sebadoh occupying Lincoln Hall on Sunday. Rest assured there is plenty of sexy, vivacious and completely awesome local acts hanging around town to brighten your weekend days. So let's [...]

This time around, we talk Dick Wolf! at the Viaduct Theatre , Gang Of Four at the Metro , Bleeding Hearts Arts Fest and more. Let's get to it, shall [...]

Boris Whew. Congrats, Chicago. You survived Lollapalooza 2010. Until next year or some such. Anyway, if you didn't make it down to Grant Park last weekend, relive the madness in our complete wrap up of Lollapalooza's Friday , Saturday and Sunday ! Left to Right: Larson, Kee, Bibbles, Signal Jennifer Beth Larson, guitarist for spooky Chicago psych-rockers The Earth Program , has quit the band according to front man Christoper Kee. In an e-mail received from Kee last week, he confirmed that Larson, aka JenDroid, will no longer be performing with the band. The parting was mutual and the band and her still remain close friends. Larson will help in some new endeavors for the Earth Program including music videos and producing a comic book of the Earth Program story with fans of the band Jack [...]

Magnolia Ave., between Lawrence and Argyle in Uptown. In addition to the music, free vegan food and snacks will be provided in a drug- and alcohol-free environment. [...]

To poorly plagiarize Rick James, "Jet lag is a hell of an experience." I was pretty much out of touch with the world for three weeks while in Australia and it was great. Snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef, hiking the Outback, and checking out prehistoric caves with Aboriginal art were among the highlights of this experience. Did I mention I get paid to do this? I guess Bob Dylan was wrong about twenty years of school-it can get you more than the day shift. I scouted and mixed this compilation during my jet lagged insomnia from [...]

This year, I have been very fortunate in finding good free releases from bands willing to take chance and bank on their performances. Rather than release a bunch of demos, many recording artists are putting forth quality artistic efforts for free, and these are hooking audiences and expanding awareness of their work. The Earth Program's Invade! continues this trend. I would describe the Chicago-based band's debut LP as spacey, psychedelic punk. Tracks range from the experimental ( Keeneecheewaa ) to pop-punk ( Pink Pit [reprise] ) to damn good ( Mawkish ) and everything in between. [...]
