I usually feature "new" videos during my turns through the daily video post rotation, but last night I came across a clip that blew my mind when I first saw it 15 years ago and made my jaw drop all over again all these years later. I'm talking about Edgar Winter Group's version of Frankenstein from the legendary British program Old Grey Whistle Test. Winter revolutionized the use of synthesizers by strapping one around his neck and rocking it out in live performances. By the time this nine-minute video is over, Edgar takes a turn on synth, sax and [...]

I love the Winter Brothers. Johnny represents good old boy Texas Blues in the best possible way. Edgar represents Jazz, Classic Rock and the lighter side of the Blues. I remember spending the night at my friend Dave Youngblood's house in the seventh grade. Staying over a buddy's house was huge at 13 or 14 years old. I remember his parents had a basement where we could spread out a few sleeping bags and listen to music. This had to be around 1973 by my best guess. The reason I remember it so vividly had nothing to do with the [...]

They Only Come Out at Night is the fourth studio album by the Edgar Winter Group. It went to No. 3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, eventually sold two million copies, and features two of the band's biggest hits, "Frankenstein" (#1 Pop Singles) and "Free Ride" (#14 Pop Singles). The album was released in November of 72, but it wasn't until the next year that either song became big. I remember hearing those two songs on the radio all that summer and going to the record store and [...]

Now, a rehearsal version the collaboration -- recorded in advance of the televised performance -- is surfacing on a new double CD of material by the Marching Band entitled 'Trojan Legacy CD -- 40 Years of Dr. Arthur C. Bartner and the [...]

Tom Watts is YET ANOTHER 17yr old producer/remixer who shows a great deal of promise, he's from New Zealand, not Australia. Maybe future wars are ahead in the battle to have the best 17yr old?! He sent us two very impressive tracks, one is a funky pr0n groove of a remix, which sounds like something from Boogie Nights and the other is an original track which has elements of Crystal Castles, Justice & Royksopp floating around in it. Indeed, it's is the original track which rules the hardest because this weird combination ends up working [...]

while flipping through last week's onion , i was a little disappointed when i came upon the a.v. club's 14 songs about vampires feature & didn't see neil young's "vampire blues", from his 1974 masterpiece on the beach listed...yeah, i guess the song's really about oil, but it's got the word vampire in the title, so i thought i'd post it here for halloween...the blogosphere has been crawling with halloween related songs for the past week or so , a couple sites like ghost town & [...]
