Every [two weeks?] Jamie Hale takes a long, hard look at the music industry and the blog scene that feeds it. Here, he releases those findings and makes snarky, sarcastic remarks. Admittedly, both Jamie and Knox Road are a part of this scene. So sue us. I just spent the last six weeks talking about some real heavy stuff. An in-depth look at how September 11 changed rock 'n' roll? Jesus. I should have thrown in how Pearl Harbor changed Big Band while I was at it. After all that nonsense, I'm going to take a [...]

Castle returns to ABC tonight with the 13th episode of the 9th season and it is called 'An Embarrassment of Bitches.' Stay tuned as we live blog the show with all the up-to-the-minute details. On tonight's show When a famous dog trainer is killed, the investigation keeps coming back to charismatic reality TV star (rumored to be based on Kim Kardashian) Kay Cappuccio (guest star Hilarie Burton, "White Collar"). Kay, a favorite of tabloids and gossip websites the world over, has achieved stardom without possessing any discernible skill or talent. But there seems to [...]
While interviewing the Embarrassment's Bill Goffrier last week regarding the recent reissue of the band's debut single, "Patio Set" b/w "Sex Drive," the guitarist let us in on some choice details regarding the possibility of further reissues: "There's more to come, you know. Last Laugh — he's determined to release the 12-inch EP and then our mini-album, Death Travels West .… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the [...]
The Embarrassment "Patio Set" b/w "Sex Drive" (Last Laugh Records) The Embarrassment's debut single has been out of print for decades now, and copies regularly fetch well over a hundred bucks. The only way to hear what many consider to be the definitive Embos song, "Sex Drive," on vinyl for a decent price ...
The Embarrassment never died. This is starting to seem like vindication for a band that should have been a lot bigger.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]
Taking another small step out of its unmarked grave, the Embarrassment will reissue a 7" of its 1980 single, Sex Drive , within the next month. The American punk reissue label Last Laugh Records will do the pressing.… [ Read more ] [ Subscribe to the comments on this story ]

It's Sunday and I feel like I can get away with something a bit more risqu é. So how kooky does it get than Berlin's native ascetic Siriusmo . He's got a new release due next week and it's packed with 42 tracks dated from 2000 to 2010. Dubbed an anthology, it's a memento of unreleased material with added bench warmers that didn't make the cut for his debut LP Mosaik . Siriusmo's album is still getting regular spins at HBF towers and Star Mo has just annouced another double CD of Siriusmo goodness. He will release 'Pearls & Embarrassments' on June 24th and it is a 42-track double CD collection of all the tracks that Siriusmo has recorded between 2000 and 2010 - and it will include 8 previously unreleased tracks produced during this time too. It will be the first time that Siriusmo's entire collection of releases will be made available digitally as many of them only ever saw a physical release on vinyl. [...]
"They forged together everything that was powerful and interesting to me about 1980s American underground music after punk."
Erm, here's a great way to follow up yesterday's vagina post. We're not exactly curing cancer for a living over here are we?
If Ke$ha makes it to a second album, America doesn't deserve a music business anymore. Music industry - United States - Music - Business - Arts

As an addendum to the last post, there's a Homestead compilation called Human Music that features a song by Big Dipper as well as lead singer Bill Goffrier's other band, the Embarrassment. The Embarrassment had broken up well before the assemblage of Big Dipper, but reunited during Big Dipper's prime. It was during this period in 1988 that Human Music was released. The compilation features just as many Homestead bands as not, including a bunch of Flying Nun bands (the Clean, the Chills, the Verlaines, and the Tall Dwarfs) since apparently Homestead [...]

So I go and write one of the best posts I've ever written, a detailed Odyssey of my ever-changing relationship with Death Cab for Cutie, and right as I go to insert the picture, my computer crashes. Today is just not my day. And it's not yours either, because I'm too angry to try and recreate what I wrote. Instead, you get the synthetic watered-down version. Get over it. Here's what I can remember of what I said: Seth Cohen's Transatlanticism poster = GOOD. The word "emo" to describe Death Cab = BAD. My green [...]

Notes From Middle America is contributor Danny R. Phillips' monthly column. You can read past installments here . I have to ask. What happened to rock? Has it become passé or uncool for a band to struggle, tour, play shows night after night to build a fan base without the help of excessive internet buzz or douche bags in the "hip" magazines who supposedly have their fingers on the pulse of the American youth culture? If a band has to work hard to get what they have, is that far less important [...]

It's time again to kick back and relax. Stop thinking obsessively about the now and look back to a slightly more more idyllic time, one year ago . Here is the April 2008 Mix. 1. Cat Swallow (pirate pirate mp3) by Royal Bangs 2. Eraser (sub pop mp3) by No Age 3. Spy/Glass House (mp3) by Feral Children 4. (I'm A) Don Juan (mp3) by The Embarrassment [...]
The Embarrassment - " Celebrity Art Party " American post-punk is full of nervous nerds. The New York no wave scene turned bleakness and anxiety into contorted, self-destructive anti-rock. Devo channeled an "Uncontrollable Urge" and traced the devolution of our species. The Talking Heads played the outsiders-looking-in and charted with "Psycho Killer" and "Life During Wartime". The Feelies mused about "The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness" and invented Weezer with their first album. Fitting squarely within this tradition are the Embarrassment, the best Wichitan bar-band you've never heard of. The band [...]

Just watch this. Via Stereogum . Also, is that Paul Stanley on the microphone encouraging Corgan? What the hell is Corgan. If this is some Andy Kaufman-style stunt, it's really poorly executed. This is like watching Robert De Niro's nightclub routine at the beginning of Raging Bull . Cross-published on CIMI
