You Should Know The award for the most British-sounding band in Iowa goes to The Envy Corps. The Ames, Iowa foursome makes pop-infused indie-rock that could easily pass for Brit rock. The band has drawn comparisons to everyone from Radiohead (besides a slight vocal similarity to Thom Yorke, not so much) to Doves (moreso) to Modest Mouse (eh, barely). There are even times when lead singer Luke Pettipoole reminds me of Finn Andrews of the Veils, but for the most part The Envy Corps' [...]

After many, many warm days, autumn has finally settled into the city with a four-day long rain storm. Slow. Steady. And unavoidable. The rain always reaffirms my decision to rely on public transportation (or my own two feet). Driving in the district during even the mildest rain shower is an exercise in extreme patience. "Story Problem" - Envy Corps This month has hurried by us. All busy. All toiling away happily. I've recently become obsessed with social media releases and Twitter. "Samba [...]

The Envy Corps . Remember their name. These guys are gonna be huge this year, mark my words. Hailing from Ames, Iowa the four piece were snapped up by Vertigo records in March and are preparing to release their new single Rhinemaidens on October 9th, with a full length (their second) to follow shortly after. Last week saw trauma hit the band as guitarist Brandon Darner suffered a stroke minutes before going on stage at a show in London, he is recovering well and should be back out on the road soon. [...]

Vol 06 of this EA series was turning a new page for us here at The World Forgot. For once we we got serious about posting in this online format [before we relied heavily on word of mouth and links that were passed around the nets via email] and we also switched the format from seventeen songs [the perfect prime number to fill up a full burned disc] to thirteen tracks [still a prime number but more realistic]. So here is Vol 06 of the popular series of compilations we've thrown together. We're rapidly approaching [...]

Keep this song in your head into the weekend. Its called Wires and Wool by The Envy Corps . A band that's been building from 2001 made up by a couple guys from Ames, Iowa. You're probably going to be hearing a lot more from these guys if you haven't already. They've toured with the Killers , currently touring the UK with Editors and are looking forward to releasing a full-length this summer called Dwell on Vertigo Records . Head over to their [...]

Four years ago, I was standing on the edge of something bigger than I had ever seen before - college. 128 hour credits, countless late night dance parties, one alcohol violation, and two majors later, I'm once again on the edge of something I've never seen - the real world. These past four years have been some of the most intense and influential years of my life. Yet, amidst the all night study sessions, the insufferable early morning classes, and those awful hangovers, there's been one thing absolutely constant in my life: my passion for music. I've [...]

I tend to skip right on over emails that appear in my inbox proclaiming someone "the band of 2007." But it's actually pretty cool when the email refers to a band you already love, and the email comes from Universal Music Group in the UK, where that band will be releasing an EP in February. I've already been rocking out to I Will Write You Love Letters If You Tell Me To , The Envy Corps ' stateside EP, since last October when I featured it on a show . Now it looks like [...]

In celebration of our upcoming 100th post this friday, we at Indietastic would like to review some of the artists over the past years that have shaped our tastes and ideas about music. We figured instead of paying homage to the obvious pillars of the indie genre, we'd spend a day reviewing a band that has not received the attention (even within our blogging community) due to them. Enter The Envy Corps . This Iowa-based outfit released an absolute stunner of a debut with their 2004 LP Soviet Reunion . The quartet is eerily reminiscent [...]

So I came across The Envy Corps this morning in my daily blog readings (about the first half hour of my workday...shhh, don't tell!) These guys are actually from Iowa and write some freakin' CATCHY indie rock! Kind of sound what Mobius Band would sound like if you replaced all the electronic glitches with handclaps and harmonies. Anyways, apparently they're in Russia (?!) recording their full-length debut, so maybe we'll see it soon?? Hopefully?? Anyways, here's a couple songs off of their newest EP, I Will Write You Love Letters if You Tell Me [...]
Hi. My name is Rachael. I am officially the worst packer ever. I'm sitting in my now naked apartment, surrounded by boxes that are sorta taped together, and cringing over the pile of garbage bags that had to be used when I ran out of boxes. There's still cds lying all over the place, as I am too scared to pack them away in case they crack, and Back To The Future Part II is on my TV, which will be the last thing (after my computer) that will leave this place. Last night [...]

There is no better feeling than immediately falling in love with a band. The Envy Corps have been praised by Indie Don't Dance and are playing two shows in New York this week. Anthing Nikki likes, I usually do as well, so the other day I downloaded some tracks off their myspace and les blogs....and the rest, well, is history. I've stated this numerous times, but I don't like bands that you have to work in order to love. I [...]

"You can keep all your culture." The Voom Blooms I leave again, sorry. You'll be in good hands, though. My buddy Taylor from MFKWCRG will be doing a couple of posts while I'm enjoying our nation's capital for the third time. I'm heading out to Washington DC today. Why? No reason, I just absolutely LOVE it there. It's arguably one of our country's most beautiful cities. Chicago and [...]

As I have mentioned at least one time too many, I adore The Envy Corps' I Will Write You Love Letters if You Tell Me To . It's catchy, it's poppy, it's moody. In short, the EP is a gloriously well-crafted gem. I'm a bit addicted and decided it's time to spread the joy. Indie Don't Dance is offering up copies of the EP to 3 readers. To win, respond to the following prompt in the comment section: Write me an 11-word love letter that tells of your need for an Envy Corps EP. [...]
I told my internet people here in Seattle to turn it off August 1st. While I'm still prepared to wake up tomorrow without internet, I'm keeping in mind I told them to turn my cable off July 1st and they didn't get around to it until July 10th or so. For now I'll post this as my farewell post until I get back home, with a post from an internet cafe every now and then. Death From Above 1979 - [...]

As of August 1st, my internet will be turned off here in my tiny apartment. I did this mainly to save money for my trip home, but that obviously puts some restrictions on how frequently I can post after then. The plan as it stands now will have me leaving Seattle August 18th and home by the time school starts. So that's a solid 18 days my internet will be off. (gasp!) As much as I'd like to just relax for a while, read a few books, and take a break from the whole posting music [...]
