A few nights ago I was driving around downtown Chicago with Ryan (he was actually driving though) and he said something like, "Have you heard the Gooningtons?" I hadn't, so he proceed to play Welcome To Goonington Beach! and blow my mind. He also explained verbally what's documented on this pop punk message board thread . To sum it all up, Ryan recorded 8 Ramones-core songs (written over the span of a few days) in a single afternoon and it's incredible. I have no idea how I missed this (or why no one told me) last year, [...]
If you don't - The Ergs! Remember when the Ergs were just some upstart band and not the ambassadors and perceived height of pop punk in the 20002s, nor the promise that they one day would be? When they were just a side/new project of Dirt Bike Annie, awash in a sea of now forgotten, overshadowed pop punk bands, when they were still playing it somewhat safe, when they weren't headlining every "fest", when they hadn't released a million posthumous records, when no one [...]

Books about Miles Davis - The Ergs! I've never read a book about Miles Davis, but the only the place i could think that Mikey Erg would quit his job, sell that vacant lot he calls his life and settle down someplace he's only read about in those books would be that barn of Miles' father's that he locked himself alone in to beat his heroin addiction. It's probably not that place. It's just the only fact i know about the man.

SINGLE REVIEW: Record store geeks are aware Tame the Sun kills amps and vinyl stock from Male Bonding's Endless Now . This is a virtual high-five over to magician/producer John Agnello , or at least until I see him at the Mercury Lounge show this coming August, 29 2011. This track first leaked via Spin and it's pretty awesome. Sub Pop's Male Bonding have all the right ingredients and hooks in this tune. Starts-off with a dirty-gritty ampeg bass and just takes off to outer space from there. The vocals have a [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: There are a lot of fuzz-o-gistics going on with Black Wine's Summer of Indifference from their familiar So Cals sounds at times that are mixed with some Mission of Burma and then there are these epic zen-arcadian moments that just rip up the planks. There are also dark pop gems like "Maycrowing" with Miranda their drummer singing who's narrative like storytelling style evens out the Milo-esque keel in this vessel. In earnest all the vocal melodies drive this underground popish outfit. It's a very fine roast [...]

On an unusually cold North Carolina night Mikey Erg was kind enough to brave the elements and talk with Punknews interviewer Alex Eschbach. Now, known news of his Paper + Plastick debut and drumming with the Star Fucking Hipsters was discussed. But Mikey also talked about working with Stza, tried to figure out just how many sets he was involved in at Fest 9, what else he has planned for 2011, and explains why exactly The Ergs! broke up.

Most violent rap group - The Ergs! Dorkrockcorkrod flows from song to song so wonderfully, especially on the first side, that it feels weird to isolate one away from the others. There is something off this song not being the kick in the pants following the half-time extended guitar jam of Fishbulb (two Simpsons references in a row!), or having the drumroll change tempo and lead into Pray For Rain . In this case, where does the drumroll [...]
While home for the holidays, Mikey (Ergs) Yannich stopped New Brunswick's McCormick's this past Thursday (Christmas Eve's Eve) and performed an acoustic set. Ride The Fury's Pat Gerity caught video of Mikey performing The Ergs' song "Pray For Rain", which can be seen above. Gerity also caught video of The Romances, which are Ramones tribute band made up of Seasick members, performing "Blitzkrieg Bop". You can find video of that over at Ride The Fury's website . If you missed it, we recently covered one of the two Ergs reunion shows at [...]

It's like i say, y'know - The Ergs! An Ergs song that Jeff wrote and sings. And it's one of a sentiment i am entirely behind. It's like I always say, y'know. Watching the world go by, change, lose things, without you having done a thing to aid it, and without you being able to do a thing to stop it. This is a really great song. Like beyond the genre restrictions and people's aspersive expectations of pop punk great. [...]
The Ergs (Photos by Alicia Adamczak) Hunchback More Photos Here Two years after The Ergs & Hunchback played their last show together at The Lanes, the long awaited reunion of the two groups finally came this past weekend at Asbury Park's Asbury Lanes. [...]

One of NJ's favorite pop-punk groups, The Ergs are slated to reunite for the first time since their 2008 break-up this Sunday at Asbury Lanes. The two benefit shows set up to help raise money for their friend's mother with Cancer both sold out instantly . Singer/drummer, Mike Yannich was nice enough to answer some of the questions we had for him regarding the group's reunion. To find out what the members of The Ergs have been up to, what their reunion show setlists are going to include and what they [...]

Jimi "James" Payne posted this over on Banalization . James "Jimi" Payne For the past three years I have lived in the Monster House, a DIY punk house in Columbus, Ohio. I co-founded the Monster House with Pat Crann, Austin Eilbeck, Ryan Eilbeck, Jeff Love, Kristina Markey, Matt O'Conke, Joe Scarbro, Dylan Taylor-Lehman, and Nick Wong. A few weeks ago the last three original roommates - besides me - left. And, as of this week, I'm moving out as well. A group of our friends [...]

ARTIST: 777'' Vol.009 Examining the rarer wares of No Idea Records. With free mp3 downloads by Less Than Jake, The Ergs and Against Me! DATE: 06-16-10 WRITER: Ollie Mikse A record label that considers black vinyl rare in their catalog speaks volumes. Few labels represent the scene as well as No Idea Records. Started in the late 80s, No Idea has grown to uber-label proportions, and, strangely enough, kept its' dignity throughout. In other words, quality and quantity are not mutually exclusive for this [...]
For the past two years, Don Giovanni has been New Jersey's home of music that wakes up the neighbors. This is the sound of basement punk shows and living room rock concerts. The label hit it big last year with Screaming Females' sophomore LP, Power Move, and they're stepping into 2010 with the release of a free label compilation. It features some of Giovanni's greatest hits and most

Number 5 of the Pop Punk Junk series is awesome. Sicko, The Ergs!, my favorite Descendents song, and even the often overlooked Hagfish, how could you go wrong? I remember when Amy bought the Hagfish record on vinyl at Missing Link Records in Indianapolis back in '98. That store (like so many other great record stores) is now closed. Those were the days... MP3 | Descendents - Suburban Home from the 1982 album Milo Goes To [...]

Interview by Derek Evers Photos by Olivia Wright [except where noted] "If I saw me, I'd say 'Look at that lesbian shredding!' But you know, I would automatically assume that any girl that shreds is a lesbian. I'm going to assume that Marnie Stern is a lesbian, and who else plays guitar? Yeah, they're all lesbians." Marissa Paternoster stands at a stout 5'2" tall and assures me she's only kidding about the sexuality of female guitar virtuosos, but if you were to judge [...]
