SAVING SEAMUS RYAN RELEASE JAM AT THE MIDDLE EAST ON 10/28 AND DON'T FORGET TO CHECK MY BOSTON PHOENIX FEATURE

Hip-hop is faker than Vince McMahon's business plan and tan combined. Pussy-whipped MCs who sling Whoppers rhyme about bagging blow and smacking ho's; even cats who actually do poison their communities exaggerate their hood credentials. That can't be said for Boston producer/rapper Esoteric. By crate-digging and scripting double-barreled layman rhymes, the proud new dad and dog lover composes cuts about big-box stores and domestic normality that target the conflicted fool in all of us. Signs of Eso-lution first surfaced three years ago, when he and long-time confederate 7L (also of the Bladerunners) snapped free [...]

Well.. lookee hurrr.. The highly anticipated Saving Seamus Ryan CD just arrived.. right now you're listening to a JTTS WORLD PREMIERE (echo x5) ... The CD is gorgeous, packaged in a deluxe heavy cardstock packaging - complete with a bookmark, full lyrics, and 52 pages of read whilst u listen material. I have to digest this one with a blunt before giving my thoughts. It's a fucking motion picture for your ear canals. In the mean time.. enjoy the leakage. [See post to listen to audio] [...]

After third-rate hip-hop mags that dudes print in their basements - and most rap blogs and liner notes - there's really nothing worse to read than tour blogs. Cats are either full-of-shit claiming that they party like Keith Richards, or they're straight boring. Oh yeah - there are also major label artists, who don't write their own dispatches (if you don't believe me just check their writing against their Twitter feeds. Cats are illiterate). Not necessarily the case with 7L and Esoteric , who are on the West Coast with Jedi Mind Tricks [...]
DMX and Snoop might forever be the rappers most affiliated with canines, but around here there's no denying that Esoteric is the rapper most likely to use the word "dog." His own... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .
banging a drum kit banging some organs and keys i feel the riddum surrounded by stars climbing atop and klanging a pasa doble strangely enough zZz were probably the shit i enjoyed most about the weekend. and praise jeebus to the scheduling it was all i had to see so early on sunday afternoon. made me want to put on m'dancing [...]

One thing I never understood about Copywrite 's dis track against Esoteric back in the day was his making fun of Eso's government name, Seamus ( rebuttal track here ). I mean - it's homeboy's name, and, if he didn't like it, he would have changed it. Also - and this isn't against anyone else named Pete - but Seamus is much more original, and that's pretty damn important in this here rap game. Anyway...when Eso (and 7L) left Babygrande a few years ago, we were promised a theme album called [...]

Social theory and good tunes go so well together. One of my favorite writers in this vein is Georges Bataille [1897-1962] and the songs collected below are assembled in the spirit of his work. Mystic, pornographer, frustrated dialectician, art critic, political and economic visionary –Bataille's oeuvre is frighteningly bizarre and profound. Most people know of him for Story of the Eye , a classic pornographic novel. But in truth his best writing is social theory; in particular his ideas of the low, debasement, economic surplus, and useless expenditure seem as timely as ever. His later mystical writings about self-consciousness [...]
Over the course of his long and prosperous career, Boston favorite Esoteric has tapped many-a-demographic. From backpackers to young women to hipsters, he's wooed them all. Now he's working on the most unique niche of his career - animal lovers. He is one himself, so it only makes sense. The man loves his dog (no beastie), and if that sells a couple thousand more albums what the fuck. In celebration of Eso's dog, Logan , the two will be appearing on Animal Planet next month. And - here's the good news [...]
Ya'll still on Twitter? I gotta agree with Esoteric.. Twitter has ruined any chance of me ever caring about the following rappers/ artists/ musicians/ actors the same way.. Mistah FAB Noreaga Amanda Diva Jay Electronica Erykah Badu DJ Rhettmatic P Diddy
If I tried to write about every one of the 30-or-so rappers set to collectively slap Unity Fest at The Paradise next Thursday, I wouldn't have time to fuck around on Facebook and Twitter all day. It... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

Here are The Wheel's Still In Spin 's suggested new releases for this week. Obviously, I don't get a chance to listen to every album released this week. If you've heard a good one that's not suggested below, please leave a comment. Dan Auerbach – Keep It Hid | CD Vinyl [...]
It's pretty evident that Eso's got this Pterovision shit down to a science @ this point. Very fucking entertaining stuff here. The highlight for me was watching 7L struggle to name some lines off the Egoclapper album. LOL. Watch this now.
The last few days have produced a good amount of hip hop material from kids associated with the Boston hip hop scene. New material from J. Cardim , J the S , and RADIx , a new leak from Termanology , and a never before released Esoteric joint. Rather than make 5 different posts.. I compiled them all here in this convenient buffet of Beantown boom bap. All of it is on some FREE DOWNLOAD status. Check it out: [...]
... the latest episode of Esoteric's Pterovision. Eso manages to create both the official newborn anthem of 2009 and the official club anthem for labradors everywhere. Classic.

Remember when Michael Jordan tried his hand at Baseball? Or when Shaq tried acting /rapping / being a cop. Or when Jim Carey tried "serious roles". Most people are born talented with one skill, and one skill only. Attempting to break from these norms can be devastating to a fan base. You see, sometimes when rappers get bored with rapping the results are excruciatingly terrible (Kanye West's Entire New Album). And sometimes when rappers think they can get out of the vocal booth and into the studio to try production, a fatherly figure needs to really step in [...]

For me, dropping an annual best discs list is like stripping myself naked and moseying through paintball warfare. There are lots of snipers on the prowl who are eager to dent my dome, and this gives them a ripe opportunity to blast me silly. Yet I'm here anyway – unbound from any and all generic "Top 10" constraints – offering my favorite twenty-or-so albums of 2008 (in alphabetical order). By rough estimate I checked anywhere from 200 to 250 projects this year, and, unlike cats who obsess over the depraved hip-hop landscape, I have [...]

Since the creation of Jedi Mind Tricks in 1996, producer Stoupe the Enemy of Man Kind has been dropping some of the sickest hip-hop beats ever to have graced the underground hip-hop community. In 2000, JMT released what is far and away their best album, Violent by Design. The CD was re-released in 2004 featuring a whopping 25 gritty tracks that blend dark and intense vocals with an absurd number of samples from popular movies and songs, to make a unique style that leaves the listener wanting more. Vocal contributions from underground powerhouses such as Esoteric, Planetary, and [...]
So I finally got through this pile of CDs on my desk from French metal label Season of Mist. Other than being the label who released Cynic's fantastic reunion album Traced In Air, turns out they've got a diverse roster of oddball metal bands. Rather than do you all a disservice by failing to accurately [...]
