The midweek mix: ► Dinosaur Jr. visits the Music Box to play its 1988 album "Bug" in its entirety, part of a show that will include a Q&A conducted by Henry Rollins and an opening set by Pierced Arrows. ► Alt-rockers Standing Shadows , who since October have released two in of a trilogy of EPs (the final one is coming in January), plug in at the Viper Room on a roaring local bill that includes Tic Tic Boom! , Odd Modern and Hyena . ► [...]

Florida is packed with a million things. Heck, there's more real (and artificial) America that's trickled down into Florida over the last half-century than in most states. That's doubly true for Orlando, the state's defacto central-most city. Now take that, and the amped-up entertainment precedent in the area (ranging from strip clubs to Disney World to The Holy Land Experience ) and try making a music festival to compete. Imagine you have tons of money and experience in putting on festivals, but have never put on a gig in America before. That's the position Festival Republic was [...]

For a while now, I've heard talk of The Ettes . I didn't know much other than that they opened up for the Dead Weather during their latest tour. I finally checked them out, and it was like finding the long-lost love I'd never known I was missing. The trio made up of Coco (Vocals, Guitar), Poni (Drums), and Jem (bass) struck the right blues, beat-punk/garage-rock chord in me. When I heard about their newest album Wicked Will , which came out on August 2nd, I knew it would be love. [...]

Hilarious music video for "Excuse" from Nashville trio the Ettes, with an extended introduction from one of the great Comedians of Comedy: Patton Oswalt.

"Every time you smile I can tell you're just showing your teeth." That's the droning, menacing chorus of the best cut ("Teeth") from The Ette' s new record, Wicked Will. And we immediately feel a connection: We've all loved dogs like that. The cynical, insightful lyric pretty much sums up what I loved about this album. The Ettes are, I suppose, retro. But the power trio's brand of power punk feels more fresh and exciting than the word retro would suggest. It doesn't sound like a tribute to the Ramones (although clearly it has been influenced); it's [...]

You know the drill. Week 4...let's do this. 1. St. Vincent - Cruel 2. The Ettes - You Were There 3. Oregon Bike Trails - High School Lover 4. The Rapture - House of Jealous Lovers 5. Goyte (feat. Kimbra) - Somebody That I [...]
He, dat is die gast uit die RTL 5 comedy! Liedje is afkomstig van Wicked Will, het dit jaar verschenen vierde album van de uit Amerika afkomstige band. Maar dat mag je vergeten. (via)
The Ettes show at the Echo brought to life the term "fabulous disaster" as singer/guitarist Lindsey "Coco" Hames took the stage visibly intoxicated. As bassist Jeremy Cohen set up Coco's guitar, she writhed around the center of the stage leading one audience member to say "I don't think I paid enough for this show." After about four songs and plenty of drunken banter, Coco fell to the side of the stage and the Echo pulled the plug. Nonetheless, the sizable audience seemed amused, thanks in no small part to the fact that, even when too drunk [...]

I apologize for the randomness of the songs in this weeks Mourning edition. I am doing my best to get caught up on some tunes that I recently got my hands on. Either way, this little playlist should keep your toes wiggling on this crappiest of Monday mornings. Enjoy! Nashville trio The Ettes have a new record out called Wicked Will via Krian Music Group. One of the songs, "Excuse", has a terrific new Tom Scharpling -directed video starring none other than Patton Oswalt . Pretty clever use of $81M if you ask me. [Buy Wicked Will by The Ettes from iTunes]
Written and directed by Tom Scharpling of the excellent The Best Show on WFMU .
Tonight's things: ► White Arrows , recently off tour with Those Darlins and warming up for a date Saturday with Weezer (and a tour dates with the Naked and Famous), celebrate the release of their new 7-inch "Get Gone" at the Bootleg Theater, with Gangi and Electric Guest supporting. ► Deadmau5 kicks off a string of four nights at the Hollywood Palladium (only Sunday's show is not yet sold out). ► The Ettes headline the Echo behind the release of their fourth album "Wicked Will." That's the trio's new [...]
Tom Scharpling of The Best Show has become the go-to indie rock video director, helming clips from the likes of Superchunk, New Pornographers and others. Now comes this Patton Oswalt-starring video for the Ettes' "Excuse" a throwback '70s rock stomper. Oswalt stars as a fictional version of Scharpling, saying he blew $81 million, but only ended up with the above clip, which features the band goofing off in a green screened-room, and has a plot that seems to involve wizards and a man octopus. In other words, this is pretty goofy. Watch it above. The [...]
The Ettes Album: Wicked Will (iTunes) Label: Krian Music Group / Found Music The Ettes - You Were There The Ettes are playing tonight at the Echo. For ticket info click here. Tweet

A self-described "Beat-Punk & Rock N' Roll Band" from Nashville, TN, The Ettes have attitude and flavor. Wicked Will is the bands fifth release (they released their debut album Shake The Dust in 2006) and promises to elevate them among their rock n roll piers The Black Keys, Kings of Leon and The Dead Weather - all bands they've opened for. Lead singer Lindsay "Coco" Hames could sing you into a corner with her sharp lyrics and fervent disposition. Listen to "The Pendulum" off [...]
OUTDOOR SCHOOL PROGRAMS BENEFIT: KYLE MORTON, YOUR RIVAL, PROFCAL, THE SHADES ( Backspace , 115 NW 5th) Chances are your fondest school-day memories don't involve sitting at a desk, but if you went to outdoor school, it's a different story, one filled with dirty boogers, slug-related dares, and bad skits—what childhood's all about. Tonight's music—featuring Typhoon's Kyle Morton!—is a benefit to keep the Multnomah County Outdoor School afloat. MARJORIE SKINNER THE ETTES, HANS CONDOR, MY GOODNESS ( Doug Fir , [...]

Your fortunes lie in that there is anything here today at all. Fingerbanger 1 : Nightmares On Wax - Flip Ya Lid (don lowed) -- This song is sorta what it feels like to ride pow. Been my buddy this week, like slam montages, waterfalls, and matrixes ( (matrices) ) of average snowfall records. Fingerbanger 2 : Holy Fuck - Stay Lit (Bishop Morocco Remix) (don lowed) -- IN my pocket I carry a device that by [...]
