One thing I am really going to miss about the summer is all the great music festivals. Another thing is the lunchtime series Audible Architecture presented by Pitchfork Media that has been put on each Monday lunchtime. I have been to a few of these, including one touting the great Bill Callahan but this one was my favorite. The Ex , hailing all the way from the Netherlands, plays rarely around these parts so to see them is, in and of itself, a treat. To top it off, [...]

Mainliner were, of course, Kawabata Makoto from Acid Mothers Temple, Nanjo Asahito from High Rise and various drummers. On this record it's Koji Shimura. They have official records ( Mellow Out is wonderful and not impossible to find like this one). Excruciatingly heavy rock music with epic psychedelic solos and beautiful sheets of noise. Mainliner Solid Stick Attack (Limited CD-r Edition of 100) MediaFire Download Link Tracklist: 01. Attack 02. Static 03. Stick 04. Ride Blue 05. Attack 2 [...]
Excellent post by 'Girlcrawl' over at MOG about the Dutch anarcho-syndicalist punksters, The Ex, and their not so recent compilation album, SINGLES PERIOD (The Vinyl Years 1980-1990) . Sadly with the MOG website, it appears you can't *sample* the tracks uploaded but Girlcrawl has embedded in her post such early Ex tracks as 'Cells', 'Gonna Rob The Spermbank', and a cover version of The Mekons' 'Keep On Hoppin.'' Although I first became aware of The Ex over twenty years ago with the music press coverage surrounding the release of their [...]
If a better wolrd is their sole intention I don't want it in words I want in action My son mustn't live in fear of no mad man Who could pick up no bomb and cause no destruction What is not told to the old and aching Would be revealed onto babes and suckling So keep on doing and doing your do One day the truth go pick up with you (Black Stalin, "Better Days") Believe that? Strange, strange things, I have to think a little bit. [...]
Hey there. Tomorrow show last night (I know that doesn't make sense to you) was fun. Everyone was there. If you weren't, you're a nobody. Also, I was privileged enough to met a few more new people, all of whom were very nice. Except that one guy. God, what an asshole! Today I drank some booze and watched a lot of baseball. Lazy days... Hey, here's a mix tape. I scored a lot of this material from Steve, in return for his spending the past week raping my entire CD collection and my portable hard drive. [...]
Good evening from Independence, Missouri, roughly 17 miles outside of Kansas City. Holy cow is it hot here. My in-car thermostat hit 98 degrees this afternoon. While I was waiting for my dinner to be prepared (more on that later) with the windows rolled down, the sun baked me into submission. Maybe I was wrong about this whole "I love warm weather" thing. Arose and shone this morning at 8:15am. Showered, ate a free breakfast (a bagel and a half, an apple, a banana, and a glass of orange juice), packed my belongings into the Volvo, and sped [...]
So I didn't quite make it back for a Halloween post, or even a post-Halloween post, but that's just because I've been terribly sick and away for the past week. But now I return with an ingeinus idea from that crazy cowboy Jimmy Dean! Pancakes & Sausage ON A STICK! Finally! I know I'm not the only one who's looking at this with a drool dripping mouth (and that's not just from all the phlegm in my lungs... or is it?). Tomorrow I will begin my quest to find these babies. And as usual, here are songs [...]
"I’m ready for a fight, where’s my championship robe?" -- Tom, staking early claim to a "W" by converting the studio into a 107-degree gym "You can’t get no thrills out of life?" -- Tom wondering why J. in Seattle is doing rails with his FOT membership card "You had them all in one place, U.S. government. I thought you had festivals like that as a way to ferret out the no-goodniks." -- Tom on a missed opportunity to sterilize Brooklyn street filth at the Atlantic Antic "Hey, everybody, [...]
