Production duo extraordinaire EarthMoonEarth just unveiled their latest effort, a remix of Dragonette 's "Easy," and my ears did a double take. Layers upon layers of synth figures and flourishes, some creative vocal cutting, a mesmerizing eastern influence… this track is a thing of beauty. Grab the free download at their website .
Randy Blythe is a busy man these days! Amidst his hectic barn-storming Presidential campaign schedule the Lamb of God frontman has somehow found time to stay active in the press and on the social networks. Or maybe all that stuff IS his Presidential campaign? Sly, Randy... sly. Blythe has been quite an active user on Twitter [...]

Interpol hit up the Cincinnati area last week and were supported by local boys Bad Veins. Our photographer extraordinaire Keith Klenowski was on hand and took these photos. Enjoy! BAD VEINS [...]

When I Was 12 We've got a rare double-header in today's Philly Local Philes. First, there's the delightful indie-pop four-piece When I Was 12 . Their self-released EP, Recollections Of Affection , is bouncy and chipper, but it's also got teeth. Check out the sharp strums and pointed lyrics of "Vanilla Vodka" in the first half of the Philly Phile, and catch the band live this Saturday, April 16, when it plays Danger Danger Gallery with Slow Animal, Gypsy Death And You, and Caboder. Next up, we've got a guest [...]

Just before the Philly-based rock act wraps up its spring tour, it has made "Laugh Out Louder"—the second track from the band's three-song Postcard EP (on Punk Rock Payroll)—available for free. You can give it a listen below. Laugh Out Louder by The Extraordinaires from The Postcard EP Download

Lucky for you, the band will be hitting the road starting on March 1. What a weekend! Radiohead releases, my kids have a sleepover, I throw out my back trying to impress my kid and his friends with my cool Dr. J finger roll, and I completely miss Sunday's post. Oh, well! Radiohead's King of Limbs Released: World Goes Crazy Count me among the many Radiohead fan boys who purchased a digital download of Radiohead's King of Limbs last Friday. I've listened to it at least two dozen times. I like it, but I am [...]

One of my favorite new local bars, MOTR , is really starting to up the ante. The bar, located on Main Street in the old space occupied by Coopers already has as good of a beer selection (mostly local) in town. And now, thanks to MidPoint booker extraordinaire Dan McCabe, is starting to book some great live music as well. It kicks into high gear this weekend, with three nights of excellent local music. First up on Friday night are The Tillers, then on Saturday night it's the Wussy CD release show. And to [...]

12:00pm: The Site Doctor Is In (with Project 83) Nick Francis, founder of Project83 talks about improving websites. He uses data from Google and Amazon to show that quicker loading times make a significant difference in how the user participates with the site. They also brought up a pet peeve of mine, 'the broken back button', which is when a site's url stays the same no matter what you click on. They also designed this year's nbnsummit.com . 12:30pm: Will the Last Consumer Please Turn Out the Lights? [...]

The Extraordinaires are from Philly, and they are a joy. They play these old little freak folk twangy country weirdo songs that are absolutely delightful. They once went on tour with Man Man, a very fitting pairing. I absolutely love the song posted below. It's a cautionary tale about a cactus. The fact that this band allows that sentence to exist alone makes them awesome. Check 'em out at Cake Shop this Thursday. MP3: "Hi-Five the Cactus" - The Extraordinaires Tagged: The Extraordinaires

The Extraordinaires are a mess of eccentric ideas blended and transformed into a delightful treat. Fresh from a tour with gypsy punks Gogol Bordello, The Extraordinaires are a rare type of band that honest-to-goodness put the performance back into the live show. The Extraordinaires don fanciful costumes, pen in-character monologues and construct elaborate sets to bring its Ribbons Of War album and Short Storie...
Producer extraordinaire David Foster sits down in Studio Q to talk about Haiti, benefit concerts and the upcoming Grammys.
This past Sunday, hometown The Extraordinaires played their first Philadelphia show since their record release party back in June. They received a warm reception at Fishtown's Kung Fu Necktie, opening for the UK's Fanfarlo . Jay Purdy and crew treated their fellow Philadelphians to songs old and new as the crowd danced around, sang along and simply admired the local legends. Nothing like seeing rock bands at 2 in the morning. I started my day yesterday with a wonderful brunch at Egg than I ran over to the Music Hal of Williamsburg to catch the Extraordinaires . These guys are as fun as they look in this image. I knew of them because they are good friends with the Peekers and they always raved about them, but I never had an opportunity until this weekend to see them. They put on a really good live show. Bands in general need [...]

Northside Festival | Day 3 | June 13, 2009 With shows going on from afternoon to well into night, Saturday was clearly the big day for the Northside Festival. Maybe it was because there was just more going on or maybe it was because I just happened to pick some not-so-popular acts to catch, but I ended up feeling the night's theme seemed to be a sparse crowd attending a show from a great band. Shellshag : [...]
