Thank god they're back. After some unsettling news last fall that saw the quartet breaking down and fighting on stage, Women return with a small batch of stunning live clips with plenty of dissonance and tension for Pitchfork . Love this band.

This lo-fi shoegaze Canadian group, Women, makes songs that feels unpretentious. Women is possibly the most un-Google-able group in music history. Possibly one of the reason's why I like it so much was because one of it's members is Chad VanGaalen. This blog isn't reputable as others so I guess my opinion doesn't have that much value. But hell, with Eyesore as the first single off Public Strain , I have a feeling the album will look/sound good once it comes out. ♫ Women - Eyesore ♫ [...]
I recall Women, upon first listen, as being sparser, stranger more grating on my sensitive ears. But this skirts the edges of classic rock, painting it gently with a coating fuzz and daubing it with a few colored sprinkles of oddity. Jagjaguwar you continue to make me smile. Women - Eyesore

The fantastic Calgary-based quartet Women have announced the follow up to their 2008 self-titled debut album. Public Strain will be released in the UK on August 23rd via Jagjaguwar. We'll be reviewing the album in full closer to the release date but, safe to say, the band have well and truly delivered. Public Strain is a phenomenal album; darker and more intense than the first record coupled with some of best guitar tracks we've heard for aaaaages. Even the artwork is amazing. As you can see here, in [...]

Women/ Public Strain/ Album Release- Sept ember 28, 2010 At about six and a half minutes long, the new single off of Women 's due to be released album Public Strain sits on a different plane than the punchy bass driven brevity of, let's say, "Group Transport Hall." But upon listening to "Eyesore," you can still hear the rusty pop playfulness that made "Black Rice" an instant marker on their 2008 self-titled debut on Flemish Eye (a Canadian label whose artists also include genius song-writer and artist Chad [...]

We already blogged a stream of this track, so why not blog the MP3 not that's it's officially out? As I'm sure you've heard, Canada's Women have a new LP slated for Sept. via Jagjag . For those of you who might not have heard the leak-and I'm not saying I have-but I heard from a friend who knows a friend that you shouldn't be tricked by this new track's sweet siren song. It's pretty and tame, but Women have not given up their experimental ways on their upcoming [...]

About a month after announcing their sophomore release Public Strain , the all-male Canadian noise-rock quartet Women have provided a taste of what's to come with their first single off the upcoming album—the lengthy reverb-laden "Eyesore." This six-plus minute meandering track will be the closing number off of Public Strain , which is due on September 28th via Jagjaguwar . Check out the tracklist and have a listen to "Eyesore" after the break. Public Strain Tracklist 1. Can't You [...]

The new single from the upcoming album "Public Restrain" by Calgary band Women has been out. The single is called Eyesore and its the last track on the album. I have been a big fan since they first came out with the song Black Rice. Having seen them this year at NXNE . I don't remember if they played this song live. This six minute epic song has that Women lo-fi rocking sound. I can feel that the new album will be different from their debut and more experimentation. I [...]

IH: What music has influenced your art? What have you been listening to this week? Dual: Music is a huge part of my life. Constantly listenin' to something... It's hard to narrow it down to one genre of music. This week consists of MF Doom, Japanther, Matt & Kim, The Deathset, some Johnny Cash, and Smokey Robinson. IH: What street artists did you look up to as a young blood and what emerging artist is hitting the streets real hard that you will be looking out for in [...]

FUFKIN writes, "Very little is known of the elusive group Morgen, who recorded a one-off album for ABC's psychedelic subsidiary Probe in 1969 and then apparently vanished. The group's namesake leader was Steve Morgen, and while some reference books actually credit the album to him solely, Morgen was indeed a group, consisting of Steve, Rennie Genossa, Bob Maiman, and Barry Stock, all of whom supposedly hailed from Long Island, New York. Their album made no impact when originally released and has since become rare and sought-after, especially after dealers and collectors began declaring it a "psychedelic classic" [...]

A few weeks ago I read about some new Cuneiform releases on the Wayside Music list. Cuneiform is one of the main suppliers of quality weird stuff that's simply acquired taste. One of the new releases on the list was by Alec K. Redfearn & The Eyesores a 7-22 piece orchestral ensemble from Providence, Rhode Island with prolific writer & singer Alec Redfearn as frontman. I've listened to their previous album " The Smother Party " on North East Indie with much love; how can you not love a band that [...]
Hey there. Tomorrow show last night (I know that doesn't make sense to you) was fun. Everyone was there. If you weren't, you're a nobody. Also, I was privileged enough to met a few more new people, all of whom were very nice. Except that one guy. God, what an asshole! Today I drank some booze and watched a lot of baseball. Lazy days... Hey, here's a mix tape. I scored a lot of this material from Steve, in return for his spending the past week raping my entire CD collection and my portable hard drive. [...]

Providence, RI So I was on AIM yesterday until the wee hours of the morning (friggin' illness makin' me restless) chatting it up with my buddy Connor . Somehow we got on the topic of local music scenes. You all know Rock Insider has always been about supporting the local LA music scene. It makes me soo proud to see bands like Cold War Kids , The Little Ones , Division Day , Giant Drag , and Silversun Pickups getting some well deserved attention and [...]

Jax from Rock Insider is having a little bit of FTP and site issues, so for the time being I'm going to be hosting my mixchange (that she was going to post on her site) until she gets things sqaured away!
