There is still something to be said about releasing a great single, and I'm not just talking about the A side... The Great Pumpkin favorite 73s of 2009 10.) Slumberland 's Searching for the Now Vol. 5 (Liechtenstein split 73 w/ The Faintest Ideas) Liechtenstein might be the show that I'm most disappointed that I missed this year, and this 73 would have made my top ten for "This Must Be Heaven" alone. Searching For The Now Vol 5 [...]

Der Katalog ist handverlesen (Velocity Girl, Stereolab, The Softies, Rocketship, The Lodger), aktuelle Aushängeschilder sind Crystal Stilts und The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart. Letztere veröffentlichen nächste Woche eine neue EP mit dem Titel "Higher Than The Stars". Die EP enthält [...]

This week, new albums from Portugal. The Man, and an interview with Mt. Eerie.Portugal the Man is quickly becoming one of Alaska's most prolific pop groups. Less than a year ago, the band released Censored Colors, and they've already followed it up with two albums: The Satanic Satanist and The Majestic Majesty. The concept behind these two albums is a little eccentric. Satanic has a lot of the

When I think of indie-pop in the states, I think of a few key labels: Matinee, Magic Marker, Happy Happy Birthday to Me and TwentySeven. These four make up some of the best US released pop music I know. It's on the second, Magic Marker, that The Faintest Ideas now call home. The Faintest Ideas hail from Sweden, a country I adore and admire, but their name and sound signifies something completely different, removing much of the Swedish pop influence for those a bit more British, circa C86. "You're Beautiful" may [...]

Headquartered down the I-5 in Portland, Oregon, Magic Marker is getting ready to turn ten years old. Ten years may not seem like much, but for a record label it is no small feat. Magic Marker is run by Curt and Mark, two music obsessed gentlemen who have over the last ten years built quite a fine little record label, consistently putting great record after great record. I think they may have been a bit bewildered when I asked them what it takes to run a successful label, but in the world of indiepop [...]
The Faintest Ideas effectively split up following their show in Columbus, OH this past week where not a single soul showed up to see them. I'm sure one lousy show wasn't the reason, but it was probably the straw that broke the camel's back and it's a damn shame too, because they were great guys and they made some really great songs. I'll never forget seeing them play faster than I've ever seen any band play in my life in Philadelphia back in March of last year. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I got to see them before [...]

Parker Lewis ' song "X-mas Carol, NYC" is buried in my Swedish Christmas mix but it really deserves it's own post. Today that's what it will get since Parker Lewis' new label just released a video to accompany the song. They've also released a few more songs from his forthcoming debut ep for Mad For It. The new song "Disappear Here" sounds like Parker took some of what he learned with Kalle J and applied it to his own music. There's a stronger electronic element than I've heard from Parker Lewis before. X-Mas Carol, [...]
According to the "fan run" yet highly informative myspace site for The Capstan Shafts , Dean Wells has written a song for the Gothenburg indie pop band The Faintest Ideas . The song is called "Lose the Downside" and sounds like a classic Capstan Shafts' tune. Immediately infectious; literary, melancholy and mysterious lyrics; and it clocks in at a little over a minute. Yep. Sounds like a CS song to me. The song is from The Faintest Ideas' album What Goes Up Must Calm Down [...]

Also on the rawkus pop tip tonight is Sweden's The Faintest Ideas , who sound a great deal like Boyracer. That sound you just heard was me not complaining. It's 1994 all over again. Your Imaginary Bullets Really Hurt is their newest release and first for Happy Happy Birthday to Me records. " Physically I Was At My Lowest " + " Don't Pick Up The Phone "

the faintest ideas : your imaginary bullets really hurt EP ( hhbtm ) Releasing for Asaurus , HHBTM , Yellow Mica , Magic Marker and Music is my Girlfriend is a performance achieved by only one band in the universe: The Faintest Ideas formerly known as The Javelins!!! And gosh theyre prolific!!! This EP is another follow up to their album on Magic Marker and it is part of the HHBTM EP club series (150 copies worldwide). Again, the Swedish boys are true to [...]
As I was posting about Pelle Carlberg last weekend, it occurred to me: I've been neglecting our fair-haired "broders" and "systers" of the Swede pop world. Thus, while OK Computer v. Nevermind is in halftime, I thought I'd take a moment and give you the latest releases from our favorite purveyors of crash-safe cars, low-cost furniture and bright, contagious sound. THE FAINTEST IDEAS - What Goes Up Must Calm Down The Faintest Ideas (formerly the Javelins) sometimes seem like [...]
