Toward the end of last month, The Fall released their 29th studio disc Erstaz GB (Cherry Red Records / MVD Audio). Longtime champion of the band John Peel said that " The Fall are always identifiably The Fall, but they do seem to evolve " and there is no mistaking Mark E. Smith's garbled stream-of-conscious, sing/speak vocals on Erstaz GB which are interwoven into a dense layer of frenetic punk riffs, rumbling dirge and crashing heavy metal chords that collectively end up not too far from the music on The Fall's last two discs. It has been a jam-packed 12 months for Gossling , with recent appearances at Big Sound, Newtown and Queenscliff Music Festivals . The dream run continues with her securing 'The Seed' position on the main stage at Falls Festival in Lorne this New Years Eve and the Big Top stage at Southbound Festival in Busselton. The Melbourne singer has been getting great feedback and plenty of love on the airwaves for the 360 track 'Boys Like You' which she features on. Due to popular demand, Gossling (aka Helen Croome ) [...]
" The Fall is one of the greatest and strangest rock groups to emerge from the British post-punk scene of the late 1970s. Occupying cult status on the fringes of mainstream success, the Fall has gone through many permutations during its long and turbulent career, but the one constant is its iconic front-man, the renegade genius Mark E. Slothbear Cantor On Album Review ALBUM REVIEW: A Slothbear is what do you get when you mix some mammals and paint in Staten Island which forms the release they call Cantor On . Some may write this part of New York off as just a breeding ground for lap dance vixens but we won't be so narrow minded. We thought we heard something deeper when we featured them in our Crop-O-Singles over the summer and here we are proven right. They do have more moves than a Go-Go dancer! This [...]
Click to purchase The Aldgate EP by Local Hero Indie Rock Local Hero have just recently released their first EP entitled The Aldgate. I am very impressed with this EP as it has that early spark that a band just starting out always has. The Aldgate is full of energy and upbeat catchy vibes worthy of your regular indie iTunes playlist. Every single one of their songs are really amazing. With hints of surf rock (probably from their California roots), I can't [...]

The Fall - Greenway
Have you heard the new Fall album yet? You're going to buy it sooner or later, I know, irrespective of what anyone says. You always do. And why not, when it contains a song as powerful as Greenway ? Now everyone assures me that this is a none-too-subtle dig at These New Puritans, a band named after a Fall track, but I've never been one to listen to Fall songs for what they are about. No, I listen because they continue to sound extraordinary, and this is one of the most breathtaking things they've [...]

Listen: Ed Sheeran - "Fall"
As we await the expected 2012 U.S. release of + (Plus) from rising Brit nu-folkie Ed Sheeran , we get a quick taste with this four-tracker, just out this week and featuring "The A-Team", the major U.K. hit that's paved the way for big sales and sold-out shows across the pond. While we've sung the praises of Sheeran (and + ) before we were taken once again with "Fall", a song from the new EP and one that Sheeran recorded in 2010 with singer/songwriter Amy Wadge. Album Review: The Fall – Ersatz G.B.
Ersatz G.B. is The Fall 's 29th album. And with so many distinctive elements to their music – the ever-present Mark E. Smith, on whom most of the band's writing falls, that frenetic post-punk energy, and the garbled, often subversive, offensive, or disgusting lyrics – it becomes difficult to write about one album without placing it in the context of the others. In Britain, The Fall are so closely tied to alternative music – on their own merit but also because of their immense influence – that any new album is something [...]
Styrenes – All the Wrong People are Dying
All the Wrong People Are Dying is not actually an album, but a collection of the earlier Styrenes album A Monster and a Devil alongside several 12"s and a compilation track. Somehow, despite the cobbled-together nature of its assembly, the CD flows more cohesively than most properly assembled albums do. Go figure. The Styrenes, initially

"Silence is a sounding thing, to one who listens hungrily."
This morning was warm, sunny and quiet when I left for breakfast. When I got home, my yardmen were just finishing clearing the pine needles from the front lawn and the oak leaves from the deck and driveway. I could see grass and pavement for the first time in a long while; however, soon after the men left, the wind started again, and the pine needled have begun reclaiming the lawn. Now the clouds have rolled in and the sun has disappeared. The day is much like yesterday, drab. While I was talking to my sister, I watched [...]

Playlist: Late (for) Fall
Midterms finally came to an end; and when we collectively wandered bleary-eyed out of the depths of Lau, we realized autumn was upon us. Just as we began wrapping ourselves up in jackets and scarves and digging into our favorite pumpkin-flavored goodies, we found the leaves had changed and fallen and mid-November was here already. We were late for fall. But a few leaves are still clinging to the branches, and autumn's got at least one more weekend of clear blue skies and crisp temperatures left in it. WGTB suggests you savor it while you can, and we made you [...]

The Fall - Bound Soul One
I was disappointed when I heard the version of Bound that appeared on The Fall's album The Marshall Suite . It was a bit flat, a bit safe, and the drums sounded absolutely fucking terrible. What a change from the version that had appeared on the Peel show. That had been hard and urgent and absolutely terrifying in its cacophony. A lot of that has to be down to the absolutely extraordinary piano playing of Julia Nagle, who rides all over the tune with some glorious (and almost entirely unrelenting) dissonance. This [...]
